See, our old self checkouts did want you to "bag" every item, but all you had to do was place it in the bagging area and you'd be fine.

I'd see people who didnt want a bag get angry and go through any manner of hoops when all you need to do is place the item anywhere in the large, metallic bagging area.

though if the item was small(like, a packet of flower seeds) it wouldnt recognize it. then youd hit i dont want to bag and youd be fine.

Actually the new self checkouts which are so easy to use now came at a great time: we are constantly understaffed and generally have only a few lanes open.

so when youre checking out you see a video screen above you showing your face.

Now this is to deter thieves, as if they can clearly see they are being "watched" they might not want to steal. Of course nobody monitors the cameras 24/7, though they can pull up footage if they need to. We had cameras there before, but they were those little black half circle ones.

I smile every time somebody sounds wary or paranoid of "being watched" when the only difference between now and the past is a video screen showing your face.

The other benefits are hand scanners and now it doesnt weigh the items in the bagging area, so you can scan and bag at your leisure. so, there are less things you need to override(such as unexpected item in the bagging area), but they also took out a huge security feature(people can now slip two of the same item in a bag when only scanning one), so you need to pay more attention. they are definitely better this way because every 5 seconds somebody would move a bag and it would go "unexpected item in bagging area" but that did actually serve a purpose.

Vinyl does degrade over time, that is true, but sounds horrible? Thats one I almost never hear. Though it depends on a variety of factors as to how it would sound.

But its true, people like vinyl because it isnt completely useless such as a VHS tape are. VHS has no redeeming qualities really. Even if you dont agree vinyl sounds good, you still in a lot of cases when buying new albums get a digital download card included, in addition to that, large album artwork and large lyrics sheet. Thats mainly why I collect vinyl. I like music a lot, and when I buy it i'd rather get the one with nice artwork in a bigger package.

I could see if it was old technology that still had value, but VHS tapes are essentially worthless.

I don't get the appeal in buying VHS tapes like that, because VHS is inferior to DVD and blu-ray in almost every way. Sometimes older media, like vinyl, is still popular because it sounds on par if not better than CDs and digita music.

Imagine the look on their faced when a) they cant play it and b) when they find a VHS player they realize the video quality is shitty.

You cannot melt down pennies and nickels, but you can melt down all other denominations, such as silver coinage like pre 64 dimes, pre 64 quarters, etc.

I actually dont know, but if the copper value is worth more than one cent, that could fuck things up with people taking their hoards and melting them down. The mint make billions of zinc pennies every year, but I see pre 82 pennies constantly so much so I could have a small hoard of my own if i could have kept every one ive seen since i got into coins(around may). Cash is still very important in our society. Thatd be like taking millions if not billions of dollars in pennies and tossing them out the window.

Well, you legally cant melt down pennies right now, but that is true. the copper value is greater than one cent. there are people who hoard them and will cash in when it becomes legal.

1943 pennies were made out of steel, due to copper being needed for WWII. Those arent extremely rare, but they look cool and nice condition ones command a premium. If you find a 1943 penny made out of copper you are rich because the mint made some "by accident" (never sure if its truly a mistake or a mint employee forcing his way into history even if we dont know his name) and they got out, but werent supposed to.

1955 isnt rare but you can find a highly valuable 1,000 dollar + error: 1955 doubled die obverse:

With coins its generally two things: how many were minted and how many are around today.

It seems like a game to get down to one. The closer there are to only one available, the more its worth.

Wheat pennies arent terribly uncommon, but still neat. I like the wheat stalk design over the lincoln memorial design. 1940 isnt terribly old, but check those dates on wheats. You might have a key date(rare year).

If you have a 1909 philadelphia wheat penny(no mint mark) you have 5-15 dollars on your hands, depending on condition. If you have a 1909 San Fransisco(S) minted coin, you have a 500-1,000+ depending on condition. the difference: 400 million philadelphias vs 400,000 san frans

So my coworker in turn spends one dollar for em out of his drawer, and easily has 1-300 dollars apiece for em if he sold em. The 1830 is in decent shape, depending on how it grades, even better. The 1808 is rough. I know people who coin roll hunt and metal detect and have never found shit anywhere near that old. Oldest coin Ive found is a 1919 wheat penny.

So these coins predate the fucking civil war and some old moron gives them up for a dollar.

Not that ive played em all but when I was a lad going to arcades I loved the bigass starwars trilogy cabinet with the hugh jass seat.

I really wanna play it but over the years theyve been taken out of arcades that are still around. perhaps dave and busters would have it? idk.
