I don't get this. Why do these projects get shut down as soon as Nintendo starts threatening with their legal bullshit? Why can't they just tell them to fuck off? The Pirate Bay has been getting legal threats on a daily basis for years and they just wipe their asses with them. So what's different here?

I think it's a legal thing: if some guy makes his own Mario game that's free to play and puts it all over the internet and Nintendo doesn't do anything about it after a number of years then they will legally be unable to do anything about any future Mario games.

Like if the guy in the example made a sequel to his Mario game but charged people money to play it then when Nintendo wants to shut him down the courts will rule that since they didn't care about his first game then they don't have a right to shut him down.

That's my understanding so don't quote me on this,


As for TPB it can do whatever it wants because it evades copyright laws by being a non-US based (and thus throwing a wrench in the US bureaucracy machine whenever it wants the Swedish police to do anything) and is succeeded by it's many followers after the original members were jailed and whenever it does actually get shut down it just adopts another domain name (for example the current one is .org but I've seen .se used before).

Updating the base game makes it lag heavily for me in the menus (so remastered is not even going to be worth it at this point) and the online didn't seem to work when I tried so I just uninstalled it and went back to the original (doing so also removes everything including all maps as a middle finger to you but I fortunately I had a back up).

I'll just stick with my mods (as well as custom difficulty increase to all campaign missions since the base campaign is too easy).
