Thats been my experience. Never met one in real life. Plenty of haters of vegans and vegetarians, though.

Revival is one of those books i feel like i can recommend just because of the ending. Like i find it pretty dull for the most part but damn... just... damn

I had just enough spoiled about it to not outright ruin the ending and honestly, I feel enhance the experience.

Spoilers for Revival below

It was explained to me as we all like to think of dying as something positive and peaceful or at the very least, neutral. We don't like to imagine something far worse.

It gave me a hint of what was to come and a sense of dread throughout the entire book without outright revealing what it was (as I've seen some reviewers due, which is unacceptable. I am a huge believer in being respectful about unwanted spoilers). I was not disappointed with the results.

I ask because there is a persistent stereotype of a bleeding heart vegetarian/vegan who will judge people for eating any sort of meat, but I've yet to encounter anything remotely like this in the real world. I have plenty of vegetarian friends and colleagues and have not heard a single world of judgement or scorn from any of them. They genuinely don't care.

Really, I've encountered a lot more hostility and mockery in the opposite direction: people who get offended and defensive when they discover someone doesn't eat meat. Obviously, it's not everyone or even the majority. Just that they exist.

I'm not a vegetarian myself nor do I strive to become one (though I have managed to reduce my meat consumption in recent years because using black beans instead of chicken for your protein is a great money saver). Just something I've noticed.

What have your experiences been?

the stand had a good ending imo except the the flagg epilogue

I thought the same thing about IT. It was epic and fitting for what he had introduced. I know some people hate it though, hence division.

So, I found out that this year was the 50th Anniversary of Carrie, his first published novel. It's damn impressive how prolific and active he's remained after all these years. I really respect the man for his passion and love of the craft. He genuinely finds a lot of joy in the process and has said that he would continue to write, even if it were to never be published, because it's just that much fun.

On a vaguely related note, someone in another topic mentioned Stephen King has a reputation for bad endings. It is true that a sizable amount of his novels have weak to bad endings/third acts, but I feel the problem is overblown in comparison to how often it is mentioned. I feel the problem is typically reserved for his more relatively obscure novels (Rose Madder, Tommyknockers, Needful Things, The Outsider, etc.) and epic long novels (IT, The Stand, The Dark Tower series, Under the Dome, etc. And some of these are more divisive than outright panned). For many of his famous works (Carrie, The Shining, Salems Lot, Misery, Pet Semetary, The Dead Zone, etc.), the endings are generally solid and stick the landing well enough.

Im impressed that even a lot of Kings more recent books have made peoples favorite lists. I even mentioned that I believe he wrote his scariest novel in 2014. Its amazing that hes still releasing bangers after all these years.

Its equally impressive that he still usually releases at least one book a year. In On Writing, written in the early 2000s, he laments that he doesnt write as fast as he once did.yet his output and quality ratio puts most authors to shame.

My three favorite are The Long Walk (the one that got me into his work), The Shining (deeply personal and powerful), and Revival (The scariest novel I've ever read). This latter one especially is underrated. It was written in 2014 and shows he still is a master of horror.

See, as an outsider looking it, its offerings still seem slim. Let's pretend that the Switch isn't released or they had somehow never been ported. Its offerings are still slim. My go to example is Super Mario 3D World. It looks fun and charming, but it really was so meager and plain in comparison to all the other mainline console Mario games (64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Odyssey). That's how I feel about the Wii U in general: some fun unique titles here and there but not a single must-have/system seller/GOAT game.

It really was a low point for Nintendo. I'm glad they came back swinging with the Switch, which I believe is the greatest system they've ever released.

dont disrespect the Dreamcast like that.

I havent owned an Xbox since the 360, but that seems unfair towards the original Xbox. I have zero regrets going with the PS2 that generation, but the Xbox had a good detail of exclusives that I was always jealous of (KOTOR, Jade Empire, Ninja Gaiden, Jet Set Radio Future) and not knowing many people who owned an Xbox growing up, I never appreciated how powerful it was (Conker:Reloaded and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory look like 360 games and the multiplayer form games in general look fantastic).

Im not a fan of the direction Microsoft has gone since the Xbox One, but its unfair to throw the original Xbox and 360 under the bus because of that.

The system was both a sleeper hit and kind of trash, just like the Dreamcast. I would expect it largely to be remembered fondly.

Never heard someone call the Dreamcast trash. Not angry. Just surprised. It delivered a lot of memorable classics and niche hits for how little time it was on the market.

Meanwhile, part of me wants to buy a Wii U because Zombie U looks like an interesting survival horror game with the gameplay concept, but want at least 5 games worth playing, and cant even come up with that. The only other two, Windwaker and Twilight Princess, I feel are going to finally be announced for Switch the moment I buy the system (genuinely shocked they havent been ported yet).

The library just isn't there, a lot of it's best games are improved on an infinitely more popular/better piece of hardware, it won't be easy to emulate due to the funky tablet controller, etc. I look back fondly on my Wii U as a Smash machine but I still feel sour when I think of how it was basically stuck in a never ending drought til Nintendo pushed it along with filler life-support titles.

The Vita deserves to be looked back on fondly WAY more.

This. What little the Wii U had has been ported to the Switch, often heavily improved Mario Kart 8, Mario 3D World, Bayonetta, etc.). Even if those games somehow never got ported, it would still be underwhelming. It really was a misfire for Nintendo.

Most homeowners aren't millionaires. Do you live in one of those super HCOL areas?

I refuse to live under an HOA after handling claims involving them at work and seeing what they do. I was lucky enough to get a house in a non-HOA neighborhood so that was great. It would be nice to have my neighborhood have more cohesive greenery all over and stuff to look nicer but I'd rather live on a street with a guy who has 18 broken down cars parked around his house then deal with an HOA.

Did you at least buy a top floor condo? Or is it side by side?

Side by side, I believe. Second floor. Plus, within waking distance of work, which is great.

Luckily, I dont love in a HCOL area, so I got this for a good price. Minnesota is still affordable thankfully, while still have a strong economy. I genuinely think our weather will keep us from ever being gentrified the way some other states have.

This was a big reason I was I insistent on either a Condo (which I ended up buying) or a townhouse. Yeah, HOA fees are annoying, but it is comforting knowing the emergencies are covered. Dont care about the yard or anything of that sort.
