This couldve simply been avoided if they just left and didnt escalate by shoving officers. I dont think taser was the appropriate response because you couldve easily gone hand to hand and just escorted him out. But their use of force policy could be different

You do, however, often stay at events for an hour afterwards when youre literally PART OF THE EVENT. Have you ever like been to human gatherings? People often stick around and chat, celebrate, even play music. There is literally no reason whatsoever this should have been happening. Why were the police grabbing him in the first place?

And ultimately if you hate cops it doesnt matter what happened. But if you want to get technical, there could be a legal curfew in place especially if its a high school game. Also, if a lawful order was given to disperse and you refuse, that could be obstruction, breach of peace, unlawful assembly, etc..

So, to be clear, some cops showed up, tried to grab a guy because CHILDREN were WILLINGLY playing music, he pulled away from what any sane person would see as an attack, (especially given cops are literally constantly straight up murdering black men), getting away causes him to run into in a chaotic situation that the cops caused, the cop tases him, and you think this is all perfectly normal and okay behavior from the police?

And the police act as security for large public gatherings to ensure public safety, they don't somehow become employees of a school and especially not a band director because they are working security at an event.

Basically what youre saying is that any large gathering, the cops can walk up to anyone and tell them to do anything up to and including how to do their job or to stop doing their job, and you have to comply or they get to arrest you, and harm you if you resist. Even though youre hurting no one and everyone around you is trying to stop the cops. And the people that they are there to secure dont matter at all and have no say in their actions at all.

We do know what happened. I posted it, twice,. gave the video channel. The game had been over for an hour and all the lights were off. The director refused to leave for some reason. An officer is holding and he breaks from his grip and starts shoving and gets tased

Wow, sure is a lot of stuff I didnt see in the video I watched. Wheres this hour long video at? I couldnt see any of the shoving because of the crowd of people trying to stop the officer from pulling the directors arm off, and all I could I hear was a woman yelling about how fucked up it was that they were doing this in front of the kids, so I didnt hear him refusing.

Probably also just a coincidence that the director is black. In Alabama.

We absolutely do know that the away team band director did not have the authority to refuse direction to stop playing from the police and security who were trying to clear the stadium after the game was over. We know this because he's a fucking band director.

You realize if the police are security.. theyre security for.. the schools? The schools playing the game? The schools the band director works for? The band director that would have been instructed by the coordinator of the event, who works at the school the cops are doing security for?

I love this idea that because the cops are doing security they have absolute authority over every single possible thing, and if they walk over and tell you how to do your job you have to obey or they get to arrest you. How is my take hilarious? My "take" is simply what happened: the game ended, police and security started clearing out the stadium, they realized the bands were still playing, they asked the bands to stop playing, the home team band stopped, the band director of the away team refused.

The band director and apparently a bunch of other people allegedly refused, and then the cops went after the band director while literally everyone around tried to stop them. Clearly the cops must have been in the right here and it went down exactly like the cops claim!

Birmingham police claim that Mims refused to tell his band to stop playing while officers were attempting to get people to leave the stadium following the end of a Thursday night football game. The videos show a group of people, along with Mims, loudly arguing before a police officer uses a taser on Mims torso. In front of the kids?, a woman screams in the clip, followed by several shouts from band members.

Police were there acting as security. There is no question that continuing to play after being told to stop by was wrong.

They were continuing to play after a football game when security was trying to clear the stadium and the other team's band had stopped. A reason other than imminent danger to ask the band to stop playing is because they were trying to clear the stadium because the game was over.

Again, literally no reason for them to urgently clear the band out with the rest of the crowd. Not sure why you dont understand that. The moment the game ends isnt a magic switch that means everyone must immediately be evacuated by police, including performers. Its a process, and it doesnt require police to oust people.

However, there's no longer room to argue that he's just some innocent vagrant when he destroyed some of my neighbor's property.
