It looks great, I didn't think I'd be interested but watching the gameplay makes me really want it

It's kinda surreal seeing the fully voiced cutscenes but that feeling wore off after a bit, it works surprisingly well. Gives me hope that the Mario movie won't be a hot trash fire (it will be)

im going to guess the contest will be 1v1 with 4 matches a day

in hopes that quick matches will crush rallies

but the low votals may make things even easier for rallies

idk but it would be cool if we got a 256 character bracket with tons of 1v1 matches to celebrate 10 years of history

what if Allen automatically enters everyone who has ever been in a contest before and then adds more from noms and the shit is like a 500+ character bracket that goes on forever

i dont know if I'd love or hate it

At the moment I think he has an anime only name of Ren Amamiya? It would be better to just call him Joker

Joker is a good idea, it would be best to make a nomination rally topic early specifically telling people to call him "Joker" so that noms dont get split, i know thats happened in the past in similar situations

or just tell Allen to combine those noms or something

iirc he said a few years back that historical figures that are significantly different from real life count as "original" characters, so we ended up getting Hitler into Rivalry Rumble as a gag and he did like shit

it spurred on a movement of joke noms like "haha evil George Washington from ACIII" or "Nuclear Gandhi from Civ" that went nowhere

every year someone makes a rally for it, but nobody is attached enough to actually "waste" a nom on basically a weaker Link

yeah a weaker Link would still be strong but I think there's no real loyalty to him or anything. nobody can get momentum going for him.

what sucks about rallies is that they're impossible to predict pre-contest.

there definitely will be at least one or two but it'll be so hard to predict them thanks to reddit and tumblr

like MAYBE Sans and Tracer get rallied, MAYBE Draven or some Fortnite goober get rallied, maybe ALL of them. maybe they'll all get knocked out cuz reddit and tumblr don't care on that day

so basically you have to guess who is going to get rallied vs actually analyzing a match based on prior stats and other data; rallies become the determining factor in the entire contest and someone will probably just get lucky and win the whole thing cuz they came closest to guessing the combination of characters that will get rallied

then you have to basically throw all the stats from a rallied contest out the window because nobody is at true strength from round-to-round. remember how Chie was in the top 5 last character battle cuz she came close to Draven in R1 but then he won the whole contest?

it just kind of sucks, I don't really care about "winning" a character battle but it's nice to see debated matches actually happen versus good characters all getting knocked out early in favor of some bad in-joke

Who is Metal Sonic?

Before Shadow, Metal Sonic was the antithesis of Sonic the Hedgehog, a cold-hearted (literally), ruthless killer programmed by Doctor Eggman to end his doppelganger's life.

Why should I nominate Metal Sonic?

He's dope af

Metal Sonic is a universally loved part of the Sonic franchise. All the hate that Shadow gets for being just an "ow the edge" version of Sonic isn't present for Metal. He's got a badass design and is easily recognizable. Even if you have never heard of Metal Sonic, you can figure out his deal in two seconds.

Not only that, but unlike other attempts at getting "Noble Nine Clones" into the contest, like Dark Link, Metal Sonic has a storied history and has an actual character. He's way more Mega Man X or Zach Fair, for sure. Allen would be way more receptive to giving him a bracket spot.

Plus, he's recently seen a resurgence in popularity as a big boss battle in Sonic Mania. Please scroll up and listen to that dope theme if you haven't already.

Metal Sonic could theoretically have a decently high ceiling, maybe around the unpredictable strength of Knuckles. He'd always have a good pic factor especially if he gets to the sprite round.

I just want to emphasize how cool Metal Sonic is, if he pulls a good spot against some midcards then he has a solid chance to get out of round 1, maybe round 2 even. If this is 3-ways who knows what shenanigans he could pull?

tl;dr

Metal Sonic would be a solid midcarder that would be hard to predict, and is probably the most solid bet in terms of new Sonic characters. He's totally worth a shot, at least once, just to see.
