I'm considering getting one (maybe all?) of these and Twisted Metal during the PSN sale, all for PS3. I missed out on all Sony systems until I got a PS3 so they would all be new to me. I already have several games backlogged so buying them all doesn't make that much sense for me. Jak & Daxter is $5, Ratchet & Clank is $10, and Sly is $7.50 and each includes the first 3 games.

For someone that missed out on all those games, which is the best collection to get? I assume PSN is like Steam in that games go on sale often so I'm not that worried on missing out.

I work in Boyle Heights, not far from that coffee shop. Well, when I'm not on summer break, anyway.

I make fun of Boyle Heights a lot because it's been known to be a crappy neighborhood in LA for decades and now they're being very resistant to change for the better. That said, this isn't about race necessarily, it's about hipsters. They've been protesting art galleries for years, a hip coffee shop isn't that much different in terms of who it serves. Also, two of the owners of that coffee shop are white, and one is Hispanic. Boyle Heights is predominately Hispanic.

All that said, again, it's not really about race, it's about the costs rising in the neighborhood as artists and others move in and see it as a trendy place. It just so happens that some of those people are white, but I've seen articles about them complaining about Hispanics that are moving in too and driving costs up.

Trust me, I like to talk shit about Boyle Heights too, but the way you're presenting this isn't quite right.

1. I ALWAYS smell and look at my milk before pouring it. Sometimes I do a dab in the sink if it doesn't smell perfect to check for consistency.

My sense of smell is damaged to the point where good and spoiled milk smell the same. I can only check by visually seeing it.

LOLIAmAnAlt posted...
2. After years of pouring milk one should know how long to pour for the correct amount of milk. 1/4 cup (or whatever) pour is always the same.

Seeing it visually is easier!

LOLIAmAnAlt posted...
3. That's why you pour the milk in the bowl at one centralized location. It limits the sogginess factor. Although most cereal tastes better when wet, it's made to do so.

That just makes the cereal in that location soggier.

HeroDelTiempo17 posted...
I think the biggest argument against milk before cereal is that Zachnorn appears to have an elaborate cereal-pouring ritual that is way more complicated than "pour cereal, then milk" and yet somehow doesn't include checking the milk to see if it's bad.

Pouring cereal then guesstimating the amount of milk needed isn't any more complicated.

If you pour the milk first, you could wind up pouring out too much cereal--and then you'd either have to add more milk (AND eat more cereal than you were intending) or you'd have to throw some of it away.

The key is to pour cereal multiple times and adjust as needed. I usually pour three times. A moderate amount for the first two times and then a little for whatever milk is left. That way, there's no excess milk and the cereal is always crunchy.

Anyways, I like to add the cereal first because I love cereal and I can add the amount of cereal I want and add enough milk to fill in the gaps, rather than trying to add the milk first and ending up with more milk than I actually wanted.

If you put the cereal first, how can you determine if you're putting in more milk than you wanted to put? Because this post kind of implies that you might want to put milk in first so you can limit that since you love cereal more.

Seriously. I've been debating this for years and though Board 8 has tried to change my opinion many times, my opinion stays the same.

First off, you can see if the milk is any good before trying to consume it. Take today for example. I decided to eat some cereal today with some milk bought yesterday that should have been good. I don't eat cereal with milk often so I was excited as I poured the milk in. Sadly, it was chunky and the milk is already bad. The milk is ruined, but imagine if I had poured cereal first and the milk was bad. After listening to Board 8 once, I did that once and found chunky milk and got sick from it. Of course, since I poured the milk first, I didn't have to throw out any cereal.

Then, there's the fact that lactose intolerant people can sometimes have milk, but only a limited amount. Like me. I know I have a limit. I can use the bowl with a spoon inside to measure how much milk I'm having without the need to pull out my measuring cup and needing to clean something else. If I pour in cereal first, I can't tell easily how much milk I'm putting in unless I use a measuring cup. Which is more likely to upset your stomach, milk that could possibly be spoiled even before the due date, or cereal?

Finally, there's taste and sogginess. When you splash a liquid all over everything, things tend to get soggier faster. Pour something onto liquid and it happens too, but at a slower rate. Putting in cereal after milk causes your cereal to become a bit more crunchy and retain more of the taste before the milk dissolves it away. Putting in cereal first makes it sooner get mushy with approximately the consistency of milk chunks.

Therefore, in my opinion, pouring cereal after milk > spoiled milk.

Discuss.

The potential for false accusations terrifies me. I work with high school students, and I can't be in a room alone with one, because the same thing could happen to me. I'm running a summer program right now, and it would be a trivial thing for me to drive one of those students home if their parents couldn't pick them up, but I won't. I can't. Not even the boys.

Just curious, is this the policy for where you work? It's really close to the policy for my workplace, except that there are even more restrictions. I've met people that aren't even willing to shake a student's hand due to the policies on interacting with students. In some cases, not even acknowledging them when they say "hello."

As strict as it is though, it makes sense. Sadly, we live in a world where the accusation of rape can be really, really bad, not just for the person accused, but in some cases also for any organizations associated with that person.
