One thing I really appreciated is the smooth and responsive controls. It's fitting given he climbs everything, but Link parkours through this world - it's the first time he's felt almost as nimble as Mario. I played Witcher III a couple years after BotW, and in comparison, Geralt controlled like he was burdened with cement shoes.

The early game is probably the toughest that 3D Zeldas have gotten, as Link's defense and resources are very limited (even beyond enemies - an errant bomb detonation can send you off a cliff and game over). At a certain point - I'd say around the time you've upgraded your armor twice - Link becomes extremely durable and surviving becomes much easier. You simply need the ability to tank one or two hits, because by that point you probably have stockpiled enough heals that they're nearly an infinite resource.

For my first-lecture icebreaker, I always go around the room and ask every student what their favorite movie is, and I'm always surprised how many "oldies" they mention. The Godfather, Goodfellas, Shawshank, and the Disney Renaissance catalog may not be ancient movies, but they're certainly older than these students are. Hell, one student last week named "The Kid" with Charlie Chaplin. The MCU obviously gets some mentions, but it doesn't dominate in the way I would have thought.

LotR is lauded enough by critics and fans, financially successful enough, and culturally impactful enough (then and now) that it deserves 30% of the list - you can't omit any of the trilogy. Harry Potter isn't quite as impactful (at least in cinematic form), but the series was still big enough that it deserves one representative.

Brokeback Mountain was a watershed film - if made today, it would hardly be considered controversial, which illustrates the stark difference in LGBT acceptance as recently as when the movie actually released in 2005.

Despite never playing SH1, I remember being so hyped for SH2 because it was my first PS2 game (and the PS2 itself was the first major purchase I ever made with my own money). I still remember the game's brilliant sound design had me terrified from the get-go. I was so scared during James's walk into town, that by the time I realized the first enemy encounter was approaching, I noped out and turned the console off. Such awesome memories.

Yes. The feeling of weightlessness - brief as it was - was so much fun. It was also not nearly as physically intense as some might think, it was honestly kinda serene to be up there. The parachute glide was the much more intense part.

In my own bubble, I'm seeing a ton of support for the choice not to have kids (though this may be because my friends who've decided to become parents have naturally drifted away, so most of my close friends now are 30-somethings without kids). I have three guy friends in their 30s-40s who have (almost proudly) told me they've gotten vasectomies.

Parents are obviously defensive not only of their children, but of their decision to become parents, so depending on how it's delivered, they might interpret a comment about kids being too expensive - or about not wanting to lose one's freedom - as an attack against them. If I'm meeting parents for the first time, I'll often butter them up with stuff like "yeah I'm seeing how hard my sister and brother-in-law work as parents and it's amazing. Maybe someday for me but I'm not sure haha." They eat that up.

I've seen all of Tarantino's films (not sure I can say that about any other major director), but he hasn't made anything I enjoy quite as much as No Country or Fargo... so I'm giving it to the Coens despite my own surprise.

It seems like bodybuilders are frequently advocating for incline BECAUSE of aesthetics, as nothing else hits the upper chest quite like it. However, it also puts more stress on the shoulder than most other chest workouts, so it can easily cause injuries if done improperly. I have bad shoulders to begin with, so if I ever work incline, I use only like half the weight I'd put on decline (which is much less stressful on the shoulders).

Agreed. The door is closing with only two episodes left, but Vince Gilligan has built up so much goodwill that I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Kim and Saul's farewell, as it currently stands, is disappointingly unsatisfying. We need more.

Damn, I didn't really realize that it's still exclusive to one system (I'd have naturally assumed a 360 port at least). Additionally, PS3 games aren't compatible with any newer Sony systems - some of the other higher profile games mentioned here like Wii Sports and Pokemon RBY can at least be legally played on other machines.

I'd agree, but Goldeneye came from the era where multiplats and re-releases were far less common, and there was all the licensing limbo between Nintendo/Rare/Microsoft. It still meets the criteria of Anagram's original question, but it's just... far less surprising to me than MGS4.

This is true, and one of the reasons why I appreciate Gen Z's attitude towards work culture. Obviously, business owners strive to romanticize work, particular overwork and the idea of giving "more than 100%." They need their workers to show up and produce. Gen Z doesn't seem to buy into that notion as much, and, contrary to people older, are actually more willing to stand up for themselves and do something about it.
