I am very glad that technology has failed me.

Thanks. It really helped a lot. That being said, it still seems to deactivate the search bar right after the script has focused on it.
I poked around and here's a Tampermonkey script that works. It only affects the main page, not the others, so if you want to change that you would probably change the parameters at the top.

setTimeout is JS's "wait" function. I pass a function as well as the value 800 to it, telling it to wait 800 milliseconds before executing the function. I've had it work as low as 500, so you could try that and see how it works out for you.

There's likely a better solution that looks into signs the page is fully loaded, but the issue was that something about the web page wasn't expecting the user to click on that box until the page had fully loaded.

I think it's fine if people don't like it. I get dopamine from game, they don't, it's not like any argument is going to do anything. I've never enjoyed a game less from someone telling me that it sucks, because it doesn't work that way.

Whenever I read people saying "x media sucks" I infer that they're trying to communicate that they don't enjoy it rather than the normal discussion of how we as a group should feel about things that are objectively good or bad. I'm more annoyed by people who treat it like politics and attack the other side as if they've made some logical mistake, or that they have some other motive other than expressing their taste in media.

Those are literally all examples of consoles where digital copies did not exist. If you're going to dump Gamecube and higher, you need to mod 90% of the time, and dumping digital games is the same exact process. Best way to read a Wii U game is with a Wii U. There's always going to be an option to dump digital games the same way.

Should work. Edit: Use Tampermonkey instead. It's more commonly used.

Yeah, it looks like some members of Congress are actually pretty knowledgeable about it. It's not something you would expect a 70-year-old man to understand, but databases have been around for decades and I think your average person understands how they function on a very broad level.

But yeah I'd like to see some examples of people explaining this as a VPN-blocking bill unless they're going into the implementation of the bill being poor, and having side effects other than preventing China from collecting a lot of US user data.

I think the issue is that all user data being stored is in an offshore country that Congress doesn't trust enough to leave it up to their own regulations. It might just be currently used to create a database of American citizens or push algos that influence public opinion. The level of trust with China is the biggest driving force here.

I think AOC disagrees with me, which is probably a first.

After reading this I'm wondering what this has to do with VPNs as well, doesn't seem like it does. It seems more like a "don't let adversary countries run social media apps as they pose a national security risk".

https://www.expressvpn.com/blog/the-u-s-restrict-act-explained/

I see that as a good thing, but I also understand why some people would be opposed to banning social media apps with the reasoning being they're from another country. The US wants to enforce privacy regulations, but can't if those servers are in china, which is a completely unregulated door to the Chinese government.

Well, it literally releases addictive chemicals in the brain. You can even measure it and compare it to meth. And men just tend to want to do it a lot. So we're all addicted to porn the way we're naturally addicted to sex.

Maybe you could call it an addiction, but you can't say it's harmful or bad until it's negatively affecting the person. If you never understood porn... then your brain is just not wired for it.

Just to give an example, I used to look at porn about twice a day. Lately I've been tired and depressed so I've hardly looked at any porn. As I get older, I don't look at porn as much. You might just be describing a male sex drive.

I think it's funny how people say Linux is better for development. Development is literally the only reason I don't use Linux. If I just wanted to use Steam, I would use Linux. It's more secure, it feels private, like Microsoft isn't sending all your "anonymous" data back to ad servers.

Linux is better for servers because they don't hide their server features behind paywalls like Server Edition and Azure. They also don't shut off your computer without your consent randomly.

Linux could be great if they got their shit together as far as UI and ease of use go. It's great that they don't have the same corporate bloatware as Windows, though.

Who else loves seeing news articles randomly shoved in their face about how there's a rapist downtown? Very relevant to my daily life and interests. Something I can really benefit from thinking about.

My views on political strategy is that when in doubt just push in the right direction and give them less options, tbh. The right puts exactly 20% of their brainpower and 100% of their raw emotional power in to things they do. Rn cons are going full throttle on trans people and it's even hurting their broader popularity. It's covered by the 50 other ways they cultivate people.

So if there are negative consequences to Trump being indicted, the bigger picture is that the guy who tried to overthrow the government is being targeted.

Continuing the trend of nightmarishly dystopian acceptance of terrible things

https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/comments/122hpu7/ive_integrated_gpt4_into_over_10_platforms/

A browser plugin that encourages people to use ChatGPT to respond to messages. I think it's important that these people understand why what they're doing is fucked up. Every forum with any integrity will immediately ban you for doing this. I wonder if ChatGPT subreddit will start accepting responses that are obviously written by ChatGPT? No.

All these products are just a single API call to ChatGPT pretending to be a business, by the way. The creators can't even create a basic HTML page for the plugin. 400 upvotes, criticism. There's some tepid criticism about "privacy" (which is incredibly stupid) that's obviously only being put forward because it makes people feel more impartial.

I didn't know we were headed for a world where we have to worry if the people we're talking to are even real. Just make an entire social network full of bots, have them all talk about how great the user is, create a bubble of friends, hell, a fake society of people who are all talking about how much they love the user. They all have identities, backstories, they remember what you told them. This is a fine substitute for everything that made us human. Why don't we just kill ourselves now and make things more efficient?

Or is that too creative for these people? Oh no, they might be listening to someone with that ability.

adjl posted...
Not with the current paradigm, which is to study examples of existing writing and recombine it to create something passable. Fundamentally, it can't create anything new or better than what already exists.

That said, the vast, vast majority of books that sell aren't the best books ever written. That's always going to be true, by simple virtue of how few "best books ever" there are. AI doesn't have to be better than all human writers, it just has to be good enough that the average consumer won't mind the shortcomings to enough of an extent to stop them from buying AI-generated books. At that point, writing as a profession is dead. No publisher is going to waste money on a human author that has a small chance of writing something that will sell better than AI books when - in the same amount of time and for a tiny fraction of the cost - they could have an AI produce dozens of books that will sell just fine.

Bonus points where the likely outcome there is that aspiring writers will just end up self-publishing on a smaller scale as a hobby, and AI's will end up studying the successful ones and ultimately incorporating them into something publishers will be able to make far more money from.
If you've following the research, AI's intelligence is growing exponentially. Believe it or not, it's already rivaling human intelligence on academic tests. It has a short-term memory. This includes looking at a picture, deciphering what's going on in the picture, and comprehending the consequences of doing any certain action in that world, then explaining it in English. This picture could be anything, a math problem, a street. These algorithms don't run on regular computers anymore, they run on corporate GPU farms, requiring hundreds of GB of VRAM. To run just one model.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VSWyghVZIg

Most people don't understand how fast it's growing, and it's not slowing down. I'm not being sensationalist at all when I say it 10-20 years (or 2 at this rate) AI will be leagues smarter than a human at almost anything. These researchers are having great success doing anything they want.

I mean, just last year we were laughing at deformed frankenstien pictures. Now we're all being blown away because it's invented its own photorealistic rendering that's better than anything we have.
