| Yellow 10/09/23 8:15:01 PM #155 | What I did was just create a public field for the parent node to set on its _Ready() function. So it's kind of like a constructor that way. That way I can keep it modular. Blazor actually does something very similar, and it works wonderfully. Maybe in Godot we should have [Required] attributes that will throw an error if some field/property is not set before adding it as a child. Took me about 3 days to come up with that, now I can keep working. |

There was nothing more entertaining than watching Carl run for office in England, only to have the most horrible "joke" he's ever made thrown in his face (because he's authentically a terrible person), and because he's so used to the YouTube bubble of no consequences for saying anything he doubled down until the Conservative party publically disowned him. |

A) GetTree().GetRoot().GetNode()... enforces non-modular code structure that breaks if you have more than one instance. Say I want two game instances running at the same time, that won't work B) GetNode("%Identifier") only works to get nodes that exist in the same scene. C) GetNode("../something") breaks easily if you re-arrange things. It feels like hard coding paths left and right. This is something I imagine they'll have to improve later. |

| Yellow 10/05/23 5:51:09 PM #7 | So if I were to cache all videos fetched, and each metadata would be 1kb in a SQL DB, that would be, at most 1,000,000,000 videos * 1kb = 1 terabyte Alternatively, I find a way to not do that, which may not be possible if Youtube's API does not accommodate a "back in time" parameter. In order to not hit the API limit, I will have the endpoints called from the user's computer. When they do this, they will send the data back to me so I can update my database. If the data exists in my DB I will send it from there instead. Most likely I'll be using the same 1 GB of data over and over from popular channels. I'm thinking a 2 TB SSD plugged into my Raspberry Pi 4 to run the whole thing. I will learn React, since I want that on my resume. |

You'd probably find pretty quickly that you actually want to use the more advanced features since you're going to end up re-creating them anyway. Like making a 2D platformer, you reach a point where you can just type away and then wow would you look at that, you need to code your own level editor. Oh and we need a section where we can drag stuff in from, too. To be perfectly honest Unity is still on the table, it's just not the "best" indie engine, and indie devs are really good about who they support. All the support for them is now lingering. I was personally never a fan of Unity, the way the code worked, how they're still using Mono, how everything felt kind of bloated and slow. Godot C# is just a class library using a Godot nuget package, and you don't even need Godot open to compile. You don't even need to use it with Godot at all. It's the difference between good, modular code design and a spaghetti Todd Howard "it just works" |
