I read the article and if that is true then I would agree with you, it might have been innocent. IMO the song can be interpreted either way. I still don't like the song because rape is such a big problem and it feels weird to sing a happy song where a guy is being so goddamn insistent when the girl is saying no, even if playfully.

His "jokes" were not even clever, they were just straight up homophobia. I would be willing to forgive him for that if he had become a better person and realized why those were hurtful things to say. If he had actually apologized for them, I might be fine with him being the host. But instead he downplayed it and basically went "get off my back, you don't know me"....and now he thinks that counts as "addressing it" when he said "i already addressed it"

It's only when he started facing real consequences for it that he suddenly decided to actually apologize.

I guess no one else remembers, but these tweets and his controversial comedy bit are not obscure things that went unnoticed. They were controversial when he posted them. I remember feeling disgusted with them when they were in the news back then.

For reference, here is what he said:

One of my biggest fears is my son growing up and being gay, he said in a 2010 standup performance. Thats a fear. Keep in mind, Im not homophobic. I have nothing against gay people. Be happy. Do what you want to do. But me being a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will.

This shit is not okay to say. This is the reason why gay kids are afraid to be honest with our loved ones, because this talk reinforces the fears that they will either openly or secretly reject us if we are honest and open, and that they won't love us as much. The tweets also imply that gay men aren't "real men" and that it's not okay to be feminine. Moreover they aren't even good jokes

It's been 10 years and he could have changed and no longer think those "jokes" are acceptable. In which case he could have easily have made a short apology. Instead he tried to downplay his tweets and basically said "get off my back" even though he had never actually shown any contrition. Now he has finally actually apologized.....only once there were consequences

If this is the case I think a good friend would offer to pay.

I checked with him before, when I visited for thanksgiving, and he said it was the right place to park and I'd be fine. Today I got towed and had to pay $300. He said he would pay it but he just paid off his credit card and doesn't have money. He is a good friend so I won't hold it against him if he doesn't pay, but I kind of hope he will offer at least some of it at a later date since I don't have much spare cash right now.

I remember when he said that. The things he said were really hurtful. Those are the kinds of things every gay kid is terrified their parents might be thinking. I used to be afraid my parents thought that about me. And even when they told me they didn't mind, the thoughts persisted that they secretly felt that way. By making those jokes, he was giving gay people a reason to fear being honest about ourselves. If I had been closeted and I heard him make those jokes, it would have made me feel shame and want to stay closeted out of fear.

If he has genuinely shown remorse for those and knows why it was wrong, I guess I'd be fine with him hosting. But I'm not exactly mourning the loss of Kevin Hart.

I think it's funny how yesterday people were all talking about how crappy he'll be at hosting, just a bunch of short jokes. And now suddenly I see a lot of comments about how he would have been great.

That joke is not offensive. I decided to read the article because I didn't believe he got kicked out for such an inoffensive joke, and it turns out I was right:

The news articles Ive read give the impression that Patel told some controversial jokes that caused PC outrage, but the performance was just a trainwreck. While Patel started with strong laughs, he soon hit a controversial joke that earned mixed reactions. Instead of moving on, Patel warned us that hes from an older generation (this guy is only 32), and then delivered the usual condescending and presumptuous spiel about how we need to learn about the real world. I thought, Relax, you just got on stage. Patel presented himself as arrogant and almost contemptuous toward the audience he was meant to entertain. Later, he even said, Well, Im already paid, setting the tone of his performance.

The atmosphere throughout the remainder of the routine was uncomfortable with a few occasional laughs. While its normal in stand-up to pick an audience member to dialogue with, Patel just kept returning to the same girl to ask her painfully drawn out questions, as if he were mining material for a routine he had not prepared. He asked another audience member personal questions about their parents in a room full of strangers. To me, his routine was strangely obsessed with Black people, my favorite part being when he questioned why there was so much online outrage that Black actors werent nominated at the Oscars in 2016, but not for Asian actors. Patels anti-Blackness jumped out: The hashtag was #OscarsSoWhite, not #OscarsNotBlack.
