FYI Terra-enforcer, atheists don't spend their whole lives panicking about death. By the same token, Christians don't just "embrace" death. It tears families apart, it disrupts lives, it's not something to just embrace and say "well, I guess we might see each other again in 50+ years, maybe" especially since even within the bounds of Christianity you still don't know if you'll all end up in heaven. It's not like religious people don't fight death.

Moreover, when you don't even know if an afterlife exists, and you're in the middle of the only life you know you'll ever have, of course you should care about making the most of this life.

Heaven isn't really perfect if your loved ones are being tortured for infinite years while you're there.

If God creates a fake version of all your loved ones for you to have a perfect heaven, then they're only facsimiles of your friends, and you know that the real versions are actually being tortured.

If God wipes my brain so that I'm happy even without my loved ones or makes me eternally happy, then it isn't even me.

Either way, hell and heaven can't both exist if heaven is perfect and hell is eternal torture. If I knew my husband is being tortured while I'm in heaven, I'd be miserable no matter how nice heaven is. I wouldn't be able to stand God. And I'd be stuck in heaven for eternity myself, with no option to ever see my loved ones.

If somebody put you on a beautiful island and gave you an ideal life on the island for the rest of your life, but he also showed you that he had kidnapped your partner/parents/friends and was torturing them on the other side of the planet, you wouldn't feel happy at all. You'd be angry, stressed, distraught, disgusted, and guilty.

The big tourist places in China are always like that for foreigners. I went to the same exact spot with some friends, and we had groups of Chinese people want to take pictures with us. I'm a white guy and one of my friends there was black, but even when I didn't have him with me they still wanted a picture with me. I remember when this woman made me pose with her 4-year-old kid for a picture. Outside of Tiananmen square or other major tourist spots, it doesn't happen much, though I guess it still happens if you look really unique or weird.

But at the tourist spots, you get visitors from rural parts of China and Asia who haven't seen white or black people much in their lives before. And after one family of Chinese people starts taking pictures with a white or black person, the others who see it start to feel emboldened enough to join in.

TC is right. And it's not just the melodrama, but also the anime mannerisms, like how they always make sounds like "mmph" and "ahah" when they smile or nod or do any motion or just look at somebody. Or how ridiculous so many female characters sound because Japan is so obsessed with trying to make cute things.
