As an extension, does no Cloud in Smash affect FFVII's general relevance here, causing a drop for the rest of the crew?

Do hentai rallies never become a thing since they aren't enough to help Tifa hang on against X's rallies? Does Mega Man X beat Sephiroth in the same year that Pikachu beats the original?

Would this have stopped Zelda from having a rally source to hold on against Snake?

Chief got close to Snake when Snake had no other Smash rep in there, AND no Final Fantasy rep.

L-Block/Dante being replaced with Link/Cloud hurts Snake a lot, plus then Chief is the guy with all the momentum for a crazy result.

Tidus is stuck in the Knuckles spot where he's popular enough to get an okay seed, but that puts him usually facing a buzzsaw in round 2.

Then he had his shot and collapsed against Donkey Kong so 'welp'.

Maybe if we expand the field to a 256 character 1v1 contest he'll make it.

The funny part of that Pika/Alucard duel is that if we had a Pikachu/Alucard match in 2018 it'd be about in line with 2008 results, and if all you told us in 2008 was that happening, we'd all go 'hey, that's about consistent with what we expected, I can't believe Alucard and Pikachu both held constant for a decade'.

Instead they're two of the characters to boost the most since then.
