Fucking hell. The CA props are almost exactly opposite what I voted.

I think the only two props that went the way I wanted were 17 and 20. Abstained from voting on 14 because I couldn't really decide there.

Everything else sucks.

Almost getting blown off a mountain on my honeymoon in Patagonia.

We heard it was windy but didn't expect gusts strong enough to pick me (along with a pack that probably weighed around 25 lbs) up off my feet and throw me while we were hiking along a beach.

Once we got up into the mountains, we heard the wind start to pick up again, and all I could do was drop to the ground and hope it wasn't strong enough to blow me off. Fortunately it quantum, but I could still feel myself moving slightly even though I was essentially lying there on the ground.

I still get a bit spooked when I hear heavier wind than normal.

One thing that should be mentioned with regard to replacing a PSU: Never mix and match cables. When you pull put the old PSU, make sure you pull out all of the cables associated with it if it's a modular PSU.

Cables are apparently not standardized between PSUs, so if you use old cables with a new PSU, you run the risk of frying components.

I moved to San Francisco and have lived in the Bay Area almost a year now.

I think the homeless problem is pretty rough, in the city and certain parts of the Bay. Haven't experienced one earthquake. But the thing that's a killer are the fires. They seem to have happened a lot this year and spread ash and shitty air quality around to the bay.

Overall there's no snow in winter so it's an improvement from the other places I lived in PA and surrounding states.

I dunno if I'll live here my whole life. I'd probably be saying differently if I could actually enjoy everything that SF has to offer this year, but Covid-19 has made it kind of a sad time as it's kept me from going out and meeting new people and having fun everywhere and I miss my friends and family a lot.

But I'm making bank so there is that.

East Bay > SF

Also hit me up after COVID is less shitty and we can go get a drink

Disagree

Google has a dominant marketshare on search because they have by far the best search algorithm, not because people are tricked into using it by agreements to make it the default search engine on other platforms.

It's not just their search engine. Google has a pretty strong stranglehold on the online advertising industry-- you literally see Google bidding on Google's exchange against Google with the ad being served via Google's ad server. And of course, they're taking a cut each time.

Until a few years back, Google was effectively stacking the deck in programmatic bidding via their ad server, where they would basically have "last look" advantage. This meant that Google would take a look at the winning bid from a programmatic auction, and then choose to beat it by 1 penny if it was low enough.

Google intentionally walks a fine line to avoid being hit with antitrust stuff but Google and Facebook control so much of the online advertising business that it's been referred to as "the duopoly" for years.

Anyway, hell yeah I hope Americans adopt the Asian culture of wearing masks when they feel a little sick. Wed be so much healthier.

He's not really capable of nuance, which is why he believes anything short of lab-grade protection does nothing. It also explains all of his other opinions (Hearthstone is the worst game ever, all women are not to be trusted, etc.)

Regarding the mask culture, I could maybe see it catching on for public transit if there's any sort of advisory/recommendation made. But I don't think people will do it unless there's an official suggestion and enough people do it initially to not be seen as weird.

Unlikely anyone here knows, but figured I may as well check.

It seems that with Medicare (and possibly other insurance) autopsy costs are only covered if the autopsy is specifically recommended by the doctor/surgeon.

However, if the doctor in question is just trying to cover for themselves they would obviously not recommend or authorize an autopsy, forcing the family to pay out of pocket for one.

Is this common? Are there any protections for this? I know healthcare in the US is fucked but this one is new to me.

Your ancestors don't determine your wealth today nor how you are judged today.

I would encourage you to think outside your bubble if this is what you believe.

Generational wealth is a big thing. White people owned land and had greater opportunities in the US over many centuries. Having to start from $0 with no land when others have had the opportunity to start with more due to wealth from their parents and beyond matters a lot. Having to grow up in a neighborhood with other non-white people and that neighborhood being statistically more likely to be underfunded as a result also matters a lot.

Also the fact that you don't think ancestry plays a role in how people are judge is...something. Implicit bias is a thing and I know people who have used more white-sounding names just to have better luck in terms of securing apartments/interviews even though that shouldn't matter.

If it were a game of monopoly and players from group A got 200 turns before players from group B, it'd make sense to focus on those in group B. Sure there are players in group A who rolled a bunch of 1s, but at least they got a chance to roll.

I feel like you think society equalizes at a much faster rate than it actually does.

For those who hate the artstyle, if you have the PC version there's a bunch of texture packs that change the look.

When I first started playing I used the Painterly Pack because I hated the default art.

Anyway Minecraft is a game that I thought I would find boring like ten years ago when it was in alpha, but I ended up giving it a try during a free weekend back then and found it really addictive.

Terraria is also great but for different reasons.

I think your problem is that you go into every scenario with thinking people are TRYING to kill other people. It's a flaw I see in your logic surrounding almost every situation.

It's not that people think police are trying to kill people so much as they don't care. There's a level of apathy built into things because with any job, people only care if there are actual consequences. And people will perform the bare minimum to sidestep those consequences.

Body cam on every cop? Bare minimum needed to sidestep consequences says the cop just turns it off whenever he is concerned about getting in trouble.

Minit was kinda disappointing. I guess I expected to enjoy the primary mechanic more than I actually did. Seems like there's a new game+ which I may explore since I apparently only found 41% of what was there.
