My best friend bought Portal 2, and was unable to install it without literally hacking into Steam and manipulating the install parameters. It is unforgivable for a game to not work out-of-box, and the PC is notorious for crap like this.

Care to give more details? I've never heard of this problem.

Basically every problem on Steam has one of three fairly easy solutions:
1. Restart Steam (works most of the time)
2. Change your download region
3. Delete ClientRegistry.blob (this one is rarely necessary)

What's wrong with the minecraft fanbase?

For one, the fanbase is really young...but wait a minute, this isn't a downside for you.

But anyway, even though there are plenty of adults who play, I've never seen so many annoying twelve-year-olds who have a false sense of superiority because they play Minecraft. I've also never seen so many people praise/worship one guy before. Seriously, going on the Minecraft forums or following his twitter, it's ridiculous to see how many people call him a "programming god" (despite doing a good job of proving otherwise with the bugfix update) or just reply to any tweet and call him awesome regardless of content. Dude made a tweet about eating breakfast, and there were still replies of "Why are you so awesome, Notch?!" I've seen dev worship before, but not this extent.

Aside from the kids that play, many of the adults are just kind of...weird and obsessive. I guess Minecraft kind of appeals to people's OCD, so this is expected. Still, if the first thing I heard about someone was that they were an avid Minecraft fan, I'd be wary of that person until I could confirm that they were a well-adjusted and functioning member of society.

Age of Empires and non-Minecraft indie games tend to have pretty good fanbases. Though that's mainly because, as transience said, the smaller the fanbase the less chance of disaster.

Nah, the Spiral Knights one isn't so bad. You basically just need enough money to buy the item. Around 1000 is enough since that's what the "buy it now" prices at the auction house were at when I got it.

I think if you do the stuff required to get the TF2 hat, you should have around enough money to get the bomb for the achievement.

Oh man, I can't help but laugh at the self-entitlement some people feel regarding the Terraria sale. I've seen a bunch of people complain about how because it was $2.49 initially and wasn't corrected quickly enough, it should be kept at that price for the duration of the sale.

I can understand people being angry if the price increased while the game was in their cart, but most of these people aren't in that situation. They are seriously arguing that the developers should have kept it at $2.49 and lost potential profits even though the mistake appears to be on Valve's end.

Of course, it's not about the money, it's about the principle, maaaan!

It might be an issue with adblock, if you're running that. I had similar issues with adblock on Chrome for a short period of time.
