Merry Christmas.

Im completely unfamiliar with the Sonic game you played, so nothing much to say about that, ha ha.

Definitely looking forward to reading your Mario 64 adventures.

Does that mean you're going to start SM64?

Mostly for my own amusement, I compiled a list of my top 50 stars from the game and made brief writeups for them several years ago...I don't know if I still have the writeups, but I do have the ranking. I may toss those out in the interest of discussion as you come across them if you're going to play that game next.

I'll also post my ranking of the worlds in the game, because why not:

1.Rainbow Ride
2.Tick Tock Clock
3.Shifting Sand Land
4.Lethal Lava Land
5.Big Boo's Haunt
6.Tall, Tall Mountain
7.Whomp's Fortress
8.Wet-Dry World
9.Bob-omb Battlefield
10.Jolly Roger Bay
11.Cool, Cool Mountain
12.Hazy Maze Cave
13.Tiny-Huge Island
14.Dire, Dire Docks
15.Snowman's Land

Keep in mind that there's no such thing as a bad world in this game, as far as I'm concerned.

Okay, Ill ask some more in-depth questions...

Movies and TV would have us believe that when you attend a high school reunion, you may expect that old grudges will come to the fore, or that old, unresolved conflicts may finally be put to rest (whether they be related to bullying, unrequited love, or whatever). Are there any such conflicts that you will go to your reunion with them on your mind?

How would you rate your high school self (popular, a nobody, someone with a close group of friends but whom the class at large might not necessarily remember, etc.), and how do you think you might come across to your class now?

How did you find out about the reunion? It happens to be the case Ive read some old Reddit threads recently that were about HS reunions, and several posts mentioned Facebook groups being formed to alert people about the event...and also about how drama unfolded in those very groups before the event itself occurred. Anything like that in your case?

Did you enjoy high school? Obviously the true answer to this question may be complicated, so go as in-depth as you like.

7 stars per level except for boss stages and a few special levels.

But none of the levels except boss stages are linear

And you only need a certain amount of stars to progress right? All of the stars just alters the ending slightly?

It's not the ending that alters really, you just get access to a small, previously inaccessible area and a delightful cameo.

SM64 is literally my favorite game of all time. I recommend it, even if you're not playing it for a series like in this topic.

Of course I haven't played it in several years, now. If memory serves, you only need about 60 of the 120 stars in the game to beat it.

Platformers were THE in-genre of the late 80s to mid 90s. Lots of bad ones, but also lots of decent to good ones that people still don't really remember too much.

A personal favorite of mine that I don't think I've ever known anyone else to have played: Tonic Trouble. Ubisoft 3D platformer, same era as Rayman 2: The Great Escape (which is an undeniable classic itself). The main character, a purple alien named Ed, even lacked limbs in the same way that Rayman did. It wasn't the most groundbreaking game out there, but I had a lot of fun with it.

I found out about it by happening to pick up some gaming magazine one day in which there was an ad for three games on one page: Rayman 2, Rocket: Robot on Wheels, and Tonic Trouble. My brother had Rayman 2, and for some reason Tonic Trouble stood out to me from that page, so I asked for it for my next birthday.

Still haven't played Rocket: Robot on Wheels, but it is in my backlog. And I understand it is also supposed to have been really good.

I'll add that if you do the Mega Man games and spend some time considering your favorite stage/boss tracks, then if you don't know them you ought to check out a band called The Megas. They turn Mega Man music into rock/metal songs. They've even started doing it with Castlevania music (I don't really know that series too well so I don't have as much appreciation for those).

Around Halloween they dropped a new EP with, among others, a reworking of Mega Man 4's Skull Man theme. Here's the Skull Man theme:

And here's the song they turned it into, "Cracked Skulls:"

How about the Mega Man and/or Mega Man X series? Rank the games, and maybe do concurrent rankings of top ten bits of music and robot masters/mavericks.

I'm guessing:

3. Yoshi's Island
2. SMB3
1. DKC2

for the rest of the list.

Now, since the DKC soundtrack has been touched on earlier in the topic, I'd like to know if there are any particular tracks that stand out for people in the DKC series (or the other series in this topic, for that matter).

"Bramble Blast" from DKC2 is a favorite of mine:

I'll throw in "Busted Bayou" from DKC Tropical Freeze as well. The flute bit gives it a Jethro Tull quality:

What? Why are you looking at me like that?

Here's the real question, though: where you you rank Super Mario Maker amongst other 2D Mario games?

Hello B8. Pardon the unusual topic during contest season, but I suspect you may be a humorous and crazy enough group of people to assist with this question.

Im trying to launch a writers group/club of sorts with some people I know who also enjoy writing, and Im trying to work out rules for the group.

The kinds of things wed be writing are short, so were looking to maybe do a piece a month.

The current idea is: post your idea for what you want to write this month by the end of the first full week of the month, have it written by the end of the third full week of the month, and someone will be assigned to give you notes by the last day of the month. So, three deadlines: idea, story, and notes.

Heres where you all come in: to keep people motivated to adhere to the schedule, Im thinking there should be penalties for failing to meet a deadline. Nothing truly punitive, but stuff that will keep the group fun and keep people writing. For example, failing to meet a deadline might result in the group collectively deciding on a prompt for you next month (and with this group of people, theres no telling what bizarre stuff that could turn into).

Does anyone have any suggestions for other potential penalties of this nature?

I like to think that the inconsistency in how you spell the name--switching from "Waynnescott" to "Wynnescott" and back and forth--might be attributed to her lunacy.

The 2008 Wimbledon final is a great answer.

I'm going to throw this moment out as well. I wouldn't necessarily rank it ahead of a bunch of things mentioned in this topic, but as far as pure excitement goes, this game, and this particular moment, were amazing:

This was game 1 of the 2008 western conference quarterfinals, featuring the Spurs (3rd seed) against the Suns (6th seed). I remember that in spite of the fact that the Spurs were seeded higher, it seemed like most people were predicting the Suns to win the series. Perhaps people just thought that it was the Suns' time to reverse their misfortune against the Spurs (I believe the Spurs eliminated the Suns in 2003, 2005, and 2007). I can't remember for certain how most of regulation went, but I think Phoenix led most of the game. They were up by 3 at the end of the fourth quarter, but Michael Finley sunk a 3 at the buzzer to send it to overtime. At the end of overtime, it was the same situation: Suns up by 3. So the Spurs draw up a play that gets the ball to TIM DUNCAN to shoot a 3...and he nailed it! You can hear the surprise in the announcer's voice as the ball gets over to Duncan. The Suns weren't even guarding him. Anyways, that sends the game to double overtime, where the Spurs pull out the win (and go on to win the series).

A lot of basketball games get incredibly boring at the end, with constant fouling to stop the clock. This game was not boring at all.

EMPRESS WAYNNESCOTT THE BEWILDERED THE WISE
b. September 1st, 1043
r. February 21, 1088 February 9, 1119

On her first day as Empress, some jackass adventurer wanted to buy her land in her primary duchy! Fuck off.

So Im supposed to play her as Napoleon Complex. Which in the context of this game, I guess means shes going to go to war a lot and generally be aggressive/rude/domineering. Works for me! I dont know how tall she is, but maybe we can pretend her complex is about her fucked-up face. I dont know how she became disfigured, but well say shes disgruntled about it.

During a succession, I lost my +2 Axe, but I just got another one, so its okay. :) (I dont actually use it. I just like the idea of having it)

One of my vassals took over a province in Wales many generations ago and I still have it for some reason. It makes for a good raiding spot though, since I can raid all my Catholic neighbors (including a theocracy!) without paying for my boats to carry loot.

We found a woman who we believed to be a witch. The peasants accused her of causing their crops to fail. I threw her in the dungeon.

Wynnescott is raising her grandson, Raka. In preparation of him being a religious/peaceful character, I made him Humble when he got an event about being a Prideful braggart.

On the other hand, Wynnescott became proud when someone offered to chronicle her family history.

And then she became a Viking after plundering neighboring Welsh counties.

In the interest of getting more land and reaching the final holy site, Paderborn, I declared three small wars at once.

Ha ha, this is off to a promising start.
