You forgot to list the cpu. But otherwise that looks like a great build. Just make sure you know how many fans your case comes with. You might need to buy extra case fans, depending on the case. Like my Phanteks P500a only comes with 3 fans in the front, so I had to buy 1 more for the back.
I knew I was forgetting something lol, edited the post. Thanks for the advice, wouldn't have thought to check that.

First build? Yea, I probably wouldn't dabble in liquid cooling if I were you. Noctua makes some really efficient fans that are both very cooling AND quiet.

MSI PRO Z690-A WiFi DDR4 ProSeries Motherboard - $200
ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 - $96
Case - TBD (~$100)

Total ~ $2000

I'm new to all this and basically got this build off reddit, is there anything you guys would change? I've also heard liquid cooling can be complicated so I'm a bit nervous about that, especially since this is my first build. Should I substitute that for something else?

I got memed into buying one and I have one piece of advice. Actually make sure you like mechanical keyboards first, particularly the height and feel of the action/type of keys you're going for.

Spent like $150 on one that had a bunch of features that were nifty and I didn't care about (RGB nonsense), and then had the singularly crap function of 1) keys so high i felt like my hands need to hover and tap in a very specific action, and 2) a big fuck off wire that clutters my desk.

So yeah, maybe actually play with one first and see if you like it.
Yeah I'm not even sure if I'd like it, and it's not like I have any problems with my current keyboard. Gonna be doing a lot of coding remotely soon so I thought it might be nice for that, but idk. Might get an $80 Keychron board and test the waters, or just forget about it entirely.

avoid reddit. it's one of the most elitist computer-related communities going. They'll abolutely shit all over you unless you spend $500 on a super-custom build that you assemble and solder yourself. Oh, unless you're a girl. But then you gotta show a bit of skin.

Go into a store, test the switches (clicky, semi-clicky, and linear(smooth)). Now you know what types of keys you like. Then, buy a keyboard with the keys you like, that has a design & price that fits.
Yeah I noticed that, I tried asking for advice (giving lots of specifics, not just whats a good keyboard to buy), and the only response I got was basically lol why would you buy a prebuilt if you want something decent.

What store can I test the keys at?

Obviously Im not an expert on this but I believe most software development is a collaborative effort so thats a bit tricky. You could maybe do freelance web development or something, but I dont think that would necessarily be easily. And youd still have to work with the client. Hopefully more knowledgeable people can chip in.

Also while Cloud engineering is booming I don't ever see Java Development diminishing in importance. It's about as valuable a job as you can get with career opportunities.
I have a BS in Computer Science but that's about the extent of my skillset or relevant experience. After reading other people's impressions I am definitely leading towards Java, the uncertainty of what exactly I would be doing as a cloud engineer makes me a bit hesitant, and software development seems more interesting.

What does cloud engineer actually mean

im not a fan of Java so Im biased but its a very popular language and a very desired skill set
My training lists AWS/Azure, Docker/ Kubernetes Jenkin/ CI/CD, and Terraform, but I agree it's kind of a vague description and since Devops seems to be a specialized thing for people with years of experience I'm not sure what my day-to-day stuff would actually entail at an entry level. It'd be for a consultancy (yes, I already know they suck but it's my only option at this point), so I can't necessarily ask what I'd be doing either without knowing the client. I do feel like the full-stack Java is a safer bet.

My Java training would focus on learning React, Angular, and Spring Boot. Honestly I learned nothing about any of these in any of my CS classes so I'm only familiar with the names. I've heard that Java front end is rather outdated and only used in legacy systems so I am a bit worried about the long-term practicality of what I'll be learning there, whereas cloud technology is only becoming more and more prominent.

It's too light, the bulkiest parts of the grip are too low so it feels slightly un-ergonomic to hold, the right analog stick is where the buttons should be so pressing buttons feels bad, glossy finish makes is a fingerprint magnet, buttons are too mushy.

I got one to try after hearing so much praise but I feel the Switch Pro controller is better in every way, other than the d-pad, which you have to go out of your way to fix on a Switch Pro controller. Oh, and the battery life. Credit where credit is due, the battery on this thing is godly, but I've gotten into the habit of charging my controllers after every session anyways.

Its not really an insult more like an adjective. Man these guys are sweaty is just being aware of the competition youre up against

i like sweats, they actually play oddball lol
Actually that made it click for me, when I'm playing something like Warzone or Fall Guys or whatever with friends we just shoot the shit 90% of the time and only really start to focus on the game somewhat when things get intense, and even then we're just playing for fun and not taking it too seriously. But I could definitely see how you could have a "sweaty" squad that's trying to play optimally, only communicating pertinent information and stuff like that. Sounds boring lol

The only real competitive games I take somewhat seriously are fighting games, which I was thinking of when I made the topic. Because in that case you really have no reason not to be trying, since it's not really a social thing when you're playing a rando in ranked
