Answer to the topic: people feel transwomen have an unfair advantage over cis women, even after hormone replacement therapy, since they've already gone through puberty and have the bone structure and density of a male, whereas a transmale athlete assumes the disadvantage of going up against cis men.

While he is clearly not of sound mind, evidently due to drugs, his erratic behavior never seems violent or threatening, but rather frightened. Certainly, one would think a group of cops would be able to just force his hands behind his back to arrest him. If it turns out the stun gun played a role in his death (and this seems likely) then it was the officer's absolute insistence on the man complying--by any means necessary--that caused his death. When someone is brain addled on drugs, one is not necessarily cogent enough to follow instructions. That's why they're called mind altering substances.

^That's pretty accurate, though I haven't really tested my curl max lately. To repeat what I said before, I like the machine because of the constant pull. Often I'll just hold the curl mid rep to really feel the tension.

I do that, too. But honestly I like the machine because I really love arm wrestling, and I feel like the tension in the cable more accurately reproduces the effect of being "pulled" in an arm wrestling match.

Not sure what the weight equates to in raw curl power since it's a cable machine, but it's not easy. Used to be my one rep max.

Now I can do 3 reps, and I literally can't set the weight any higher. So... yeah, cool I guess.

I could see that. Personally, I think I'd edit it so Veruca finds the first golden ticket, then Augustus, then Violet, then Mike Teavee.

But the eliminations go: Augustus, Violet, Mike, and then Veruca.

Making her the odd one out in that sense, that she breaks the pattern. She definitely seems like the most iconic character in the film. Could've made her a stronger component.

I've always argued that the bratty girl should have been the final kid. She was clearly the anti-Charlie, the antithesis of what a deserving, good child should be. It would have been symbolic that she would have been that close to winning. I don't know if the books structured it as such, but I think it could have easily been reworked. Would her inclusion in the cowboy boy's part have detracted from it? More importantly, would the cowboy boy's exclusion in her part have been that bad?

I've always considered this the biggest blunder of the movie. I've been contemplating creating an edit of the movie to do just that. To me, the movie kinda deflates once she's out of the picture, and it's just that random schmuck cowboy. I don't know what they were thinking; I would dare say that it was an incredible blunder.

Well, I did notice--at the very least--that while the kids discover their golden tickets in order of Augustus, Veruca, Violet, and then Mike Teavee, their eliminations follow that order except for the girls. Augustus goes first, then Violet, then Veruca, then Mike.

So in that sense, Veruca still lasts longer than she "should" according to the pattern established by the film.

How exactly would he help the other kids

He made no effort to convince Violet not to try the gum, simply casually asking Grandpa Joe "Why won't she listen to Mr. Wonka?"

He made no effort to call out to Mike Teavee not to turn himself into a guinea pig.

Veruca, yeah, Charlie really couldn't have done anything.

OK, we all know that every child sans Charlie represents a sin of some kind, and Augustus's is obviously gluttony. However:

(1) while shown eating at the German restaurant, Augustus is clothed nicely, eating properly and showing good manners. He's not devouring his meal like a heathen.

(2) By modern standards, Augustus isn't even really that portly.

(3) He does not act bratty like any of the other kids, his only foible being his craving for food.

(4) Most importantly, Charlie attempts to help Augustus out of the chocolate river by extending a giant lollipop for Augustus to grab onto. Charlie makes no attempt whatsoever to help the other children when they act up, eventually leading to their "demise."

Charlie genuinely trying to help Augustus suggests he saw that Augustus was a good, albeit somewhat misguided, kid.

(2) The Phantom Menace, several aliens of E.T.'s species can be seen in the Senate Chamber.
(3) In official Star Wars canon, E.T. belongs to a species called Asogians, from the planet Brodo Asogi.
(4) One such Asogian, Senator Grebleips, announced plans to fund an extra-galactic expedition.

...an extra-galactic expedition.

That would be our Milky Way Galaxy. And seeing as it would probably take thousands of years to travel between galaxies, even at advanced speeds, this means "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" still holds true.

E.T.'s arrival on Earth in 1982 is a result of a Star Wars senator making plans for an extra-galactic survey thousands (perhaps even tens of thousands) of years ago.

I am willing to entertain the notion of a panentheistic God, one who is immanent (present) within the cosmos, of the same substance.

E=mc^2 tells us that even a small amount of matter equates to a gargantuan amount of energy. Conversely, it takes a huge amount of energy to generate an iota of mass.

Now think about the Big Bang, a singularity at which all matter in the universe was condensed into a single infinitesimal point.

Imagine the energy equivalence of all that mass, according to E=mc^2. It's incomprehensible. To our minds, it may as well be infinite.

Perhaps God existed as pure energy, and "sacrificed" himself by converting his boundless energy into the material universe.
