Oh yeah, meant to respond to that too. I've beaten a shitton of Brachosaurs at this point, not just one, but I don't think I've gotten any big item drops. Guess I'll have to beat some more! Actually, I shouldn't overemphasize how many I've beaten; it's probably right around 10.

I spent a looooong time on that dungeon last night. It was already the biggest dungeon in the game so far, but I made it like three times longer, exploring and grinding until my heart's content. Although there was one chest behind a single tile of spikes I could not for the life of me figure out how to get to. Will have a deep dive update later; for now, just answering some questions!

MalcolmMasher - I was reading up on Chupon and he is indeed beatable, at least. But good to know that there are other fights at the Colosseum. That is a bit weird though, because I DID try and wager all kinds of different stuff and just kept getting that damn Chupon fight. Will go back and try some more later.

GMUN - I totally noticed that and just assumed it was a typo. I actually googled that too and had it "confirmed" that it was merely a typo. But knowing that it was kind of both a typo and purposeful, just left in by accident, is really cool.

ZeldaTPLink - I am trying to find everything in the game on my own, so I will indeed skip that for now, but if I absolutely give up at some point, I'll check out what you said.

Cyko - Hmmm, I'm not sure. I'm guessing the second time I visited Gau's father, I maybe had someone in my party that could be considered the "repairman"? Mayhaps I need to visit him with some other party members. As for the inns, I stay at them from time to time, but I don't think I've stayed at them with the character I apparently should be! Haven't really witnessed any extra scenes at them. But generally, I try to sleep in the beds that are totally free. It's only recently I've cared less, since I still have 300,000 GP and that was after spending about 200,000 on almost everything I possibly could.

okay okay I thought that might be the case too, considering there hasn't been a single suspicious thing of that sort which an NPC said that hasn't led me to something good

which makes me think Gau's father still has more to do too. idk why suddenly going back to him with the Gestahl letter triggered him to say I was the repairman he'd been looking for, but okay! and then nothing happened still though. whelp.

Statzzz (as listed by the teams I just assembled for this dungeon):

Group 1

Celes: Lv. 54
Sabin: Lv. 52
Mog: Lv. 45
Umaro: Lv. 42

Group 2

Edgar: Lv. 50
Relm Lv. 49
Shadow Lv. 41
Strago: Lv. 36 (lol whoops)

Yeah, I'd been heavily leveling Celes, Sabin, Edgar, and Relm. Had them in a party together for a long while in that forest near the Veldt (where Tyrannosauruses and Brachosauruses constantly spawn) and just grinded like crazy. I don't know where GMUN went, but he'd be proud of my basically keeping Celes in my party at all times. I got in the habit early on of always using her for cure spells, so it's just kind of second nature to keep her around. Her Cure 1 heals over 1k at this point! (Though, assuming cure is based on magic power, Relm's would heal quite a bit more. I just literally always give my Gold Hairpin relic to Celes and use her to restore HP).

in other news, I was considering trying FFX one last time after finishing this game since I've enjoyed it so astoundingly much, buuuut the "Why Did They Lose?" topic spoiled Auron for me so now I have no interest again

It is going well! Sorry, I did not want to post any more personal stuff in this topic and was kind of depressed yesterday; I tried playing some of the game and quit after like 45 minutes. But today I'm feeling much better and have been playing for hours and hours. So update time!

Well, I've just finally figured out the "proper path," I believe, that will inevitably lead me to Kefka's Tower (and if I'm wrong, please don't tell me and let me find out myself). I learned from some NPC to talk to the Emperor Gestahl portrait in Owzer's House, in Jidoor, twice. I did that and received his letter, which says to find the location of mountains in the shape of a star. I also happened to talk to Gau's father (and whoaaa, we'll get to his story) who apparently responds to the letter for some reason, but he basically just tells you the same thing. So right now, I have just found the spot on the map that the letter was referring to, landed my airship, and assembled my two teams. But here's an update of some of the cool things I have done in the many hours prior:

- Started off trying to do more at the Colosseum, as promised, and lmao that's not going to happen. Turns out that Chupon guy just sneezes you right out the way every time. This was getting old, so I even went and googled how to block sneezes and -- would you look at that -- you can't! Looks like I have to come back with some super OP character that can somehow take him out before getting sneezed.

- Went to the Auction House with almost 500k GP to buy a bunch of stuff. Acquired two Espers that were pretty damn cheap that I wish I'd gotten earlier -- Golem and ZoneSeeker -- and also an extra Hero Ring. I thiiink that was it? Oh nope, I got an extra Zephyr Cape too. After that, I just kept getting that "Imp Robot" thing spawning in the auction, so it doesn't seem like there's anything else to get there. It was right after this that I did the Emperor Gestahl portrait thing as well, since that's also in Jidoor.

- Finally went to the Veldt with just a trio and got that mischievous Gau back in the party! Holy shit, he was level 36 when I got him back, while a couple of people in my party were already past level 50 at that point, and I just could not allow that. Buuut I think I only leveled him up to like level 39 lol

- More importantly, I went and talked to his father after getting him back in the crew, and...that was brutal. I was shouting aloud "that better not be how this story ends" and... then it ended. Maaaaybe there will be more later (DON'T SPOIL EITHER WAY OKAY) but maybe not. That was rough. I now kind of like Gau, actually...and immensely hate his father.

- Repeatedly visited like every town in the game just to memorize the general layout of the map and location of the various towns, castles, and everything else. Dropped my airship on tons of the little islands to see if I could find anything cool or hidden, but so far nothing. There's an NPC who talks about that island in the northeast with the two mountain passes on it and nothing else. He mentions there being "an enemy who will swallow you up" there, and I thought this implied a quest might begin from this. I explored that place, fought the enemies he was referring to -- the Zone Eaters -- but uhh they just swallow a party member and nothing else seems to happen when you beat them. You just get said member back.

- And in general, I just leveled the heck out of everybody and taught so many spells. Celes knows every single spell from every Esper, of which it appears that I have all but six, and Sabin I think just needs to learn Pearl and Flare. Now, since we're talking leveling, I suppose it's time for some new...

Shine, do you have some way of quickposting achievements/trophies on here? Or do you literally just type out your trophy every time you get one? Just curious. I'm assuming it's the former because they're all formatted exactly the same, and that sounds like a lot of unnecessary, immersion-ruining work if it's the latter.

Jeopardy has always been absurdly strict with its rules on those sorts of things. Like mispronunciations of answers when people very obviously knew what they were talking about have been counted incorrect.

so yeah, unless they've gotten more lenient, "Zelda" would 100% be counted wrong. it's dumb

Breath of the Wild's second DLC had the best shrines and dungeon in the game, so long as we're not counting Hyrule Castle as a "dungeon." BotW in general has so much cool stuff, I kinda do think it's worth doing a full 136 shrine playthrough. That said, don't be an idiot like me and also do all 89 sidequests (they may have added more now). Most of those are pretty awful. I played the game for months and months and just kind of like, did a sidequest or two every time I played it. I was actively planning to not 100% them, then I eventually only had a couple left and said fuck it.

Now getting every korok seed is literally pointless after 441 since it stops expanding the inventory. I ended up with like 535 or something. So yeah, no way I'll ever get all of those.

You're right. But lots of those moons are on your way to get other things, and I would definitely defend it as a brilliant design choice -- both for the nature of the Switch and for being in the classic "accessible to anyone, hard to master" mold that Nintendo is so good at. I really enjoyed inspecting every nook and cranny of the world, personally, but I can accept the idea that it's overdone as a valid critique. The idea that those moons shouldn't exist at all? Get outta here with that.

He has definitely said stuff that I actually liked, but as a whole, he's little more than a grifter and an opportunist. You're probably never gonna figure out how to re-recruit Shadow, so I'll just tell you it has something to do with the Coliseum in the northwest.

Also, while you're there, bet the Aura.

Wait, so what was supposed to be so hard about figuring out how get Shadow back, exactly? I'm guessing I did the correct thing in wagering the Striker weapon in the Colosseum. I did that first try, because an NPC there made it pretty obvious that was what to do, and voila! My only trouble was finding the damned Colosseum in the first place, hah.

But Shadow says he wants to conquer everyone there, so I'm going to take that to heart and start my next playthrough tomorrow with some good ol' one-on-one Colosseum battles.

I may be wrong, since as I said I don't remember the technical aspects of this game, but you may need a 3-person or fewer party for Gau. I think he will only appear if he can insert himself directly in the party.

I think you're right. So he does still show up on the Veldt then, eh? Yeah, there was a group in the cave hideout that Shadow was injured at that said something about "him" only showing up if there are 3 or fewer people, and I assumed they were talking about Shadow and then kind of forgot all about it. Thanks for the reminder!

Also just went back to Narshe real quick to get that Moogle Charm relic. So it looks like only Mog can equip this, huh? Any other member-specific relics like this later in the game?

I thought that was the correct dance, since it doesn't change the background or anything when he does it, but he just still always misses. It looks like the Cave In and Snare attacks are the ones that always miss for me. I finally got him to hit with some poison attack.

Oh shit. Literally seconds after I posted that, I hop in my airship and immediately go into battle -- WHAT!? It's Doom Gaze. I almost thought this game had airship battles ala Skies of Arcadia or something.

Dude was beating me pretty bad, but I was hanging in the fight until he suddenly used "Escape." Damn, I guess I'll find him in this area again. At least I know it looks like he hangs out in the skies around Gau's dad's house.

Oh, and party statz:

Celes: Lv. 43
Relm: Lv. 41
Umaro: Lv. 40
Mog: Lv. 44

Hot damn, Umaro + the Rage Ring = ridiculousness. Been using him in my party for the last hour or so, but I'm guessing he's completely useless in the Cultist's Tower since he can't use magic, so I may take him out soon.

But yeah, I managed to do that little dungeon on the Veldt where Shadow was, but now he's apparently gone on to the Colosseum. Gotta find where that is! I've mostly just been grinding on the Veldt since then. I learned the Ice 3 spell with Celes unintentionally, thanks to having a Crystal Shield equipped, and I finally got all of Ice, Fire, and Bolt 3 spells for Relm with the Tritoch Esper. Time to hand that Esper off to Celes.

I was stubborn and kept taking on this Brachosaur in the Veldt that would use party-wide one-hit kill attacks like Ultima and annihilate me. But with my new level 3 spells, I was doing like 8k damage a hit and refused to give up until I beat him. And yay, I finally did it!

Also randomly went back to Cid's little island and found another Esper there, Palidor, that I've been using this whole time. That was actually the last thing I did last night.

Now I'm going to head back to that cave I found Shadow at real quick, before trying to find the Colosseum. I think I missed some treasure there.

Mog's dances never miss if you use a dance that matches the environment you are in. Also once they hit once, they change the environment and don't miss anymore.

that's brilliant

damn, this game has so many cool mechanics

Don't Stop Me Now >= Avengers Theme >>>>> Guile's Theme

Don't Stop Me Now and Avengers are both god tier in the timing department.

Alternatively somehow rewrite it so he's the one that stops Thanos.

Man, I can totally see this being the post-credits scene, whereby some small thing Stan Lee does is revealed to have somehow set everything into motion that saves the day.

That said, might be kind of hard to film if they didn't already have that idea going in. They'd have to CG Tarkin it.
