Yes and no.

I've been looking at finding a new position and during covid there were a lot more wholly remote positions that weren't even being advertised as temporary. But now that things are starting to get back to normal, I'm finding a lot more in-office positions.

I suspect there's a bit of a pendulum effect here in that organizations were forced to go to remote, and now that they (kinda) have the option to go back in-office, they're kinda going hard on the back in-office positions. I think it'll eventually normalize to more of a hybrid situation.

The couple of offers I've had recently have been hybrid. Part time in, part time out.

Gleaning any malice from this list is dumb as shit. My state, Utah, as of yesterday had administered 85% of the vaccines in its inventory. Compared to 84% of the doses administered in New York. 38% had received their first dose, and around 20% had been fully vaccinated.

The figures are practically identical from a very red state to a very blue state. I suspect the more densely populated states are likely getting higher priority for getting doses delivered.

I thought it was boring as shit. I'm fine with them putting in the race stuff but the way they did it was so absurdly over the top that I couldnt handle it. I didn't like fake Captain America. The fact that a normal human could use the shield at all is dumb as hell not to mention that the shield is even worth using at all - Falcon's suit is objectively better than the shield in every way minus the super powers. Also Falcons captain suit is ew.

The subplot about Falcon being poor is weird and doesn't make any sense. I find it extremely hard to believe that who's working with the most powerful and wealthy people on the planet isn't getting a paycheck. That's weird as shit. Besides that, it really doesn't fit in with any of the rest of the plot. The only payoff you get from it is that Bucky and Falcon have their bro moment while they fix the boat. Except Falcon calls in a bunch of family favors from the community who show up and...do nothing apparently?

I have no idea what the purpose of the bad super soldiers were based on the show. Like, I guess they were mad that there were refugees after the Thanos thing or some shit? Or they wanted it to go back to when everyone died after Thanos? I literally have no idea.

Falcon vassilated between 'I'm black and I can't be Captain America' to 'I'm black but I never knew what it was like for other black men' constantly. I don't know why Isaiah would care that he got a statue in the Captain America museum. That doesn't change the fact that he was imprisoned for 30 years and his wife died during his time. I don't think he was even particularly looking for recognition so much as to not be treated like a second class citizen. Was a statue really all it took to make up for decades of abuse?

The show was so ham fisted and had poor delivery. Worse than that it was just boring.

I'm not opposed to it but im just not sure what purpose it serves. It might be useful between large cities within states, but I'm not sure it would make sense for interstate travel. A lot of that already exists in more populated areas on the east coast - though admittedly the infrastructure is absolute garbage.

If you apply this principle to gig work like Uber and Lyft (which has also been lowered to 600 somewhat recently IIRC), that means a person taking on an extra work to make more money to make ends meet is getting fucked.

The people making a lot of money on these platforms are already being taxed. This just punishes the ones who don't make much.

Except, in the US at least, if you make under a certain amount of money you don't even have to pay taxes on it. This is most often seen with people who are literally at the poverty level making less than something like 25k. This was the internet equivalent of it.

The moment in the show that gets me is in the episode where Howard is given the task of throwing the first pitch at a baseball game. The whole episode is spent making fun of Howard for not being able to throw a baseball. Then at the end of the episode Howard decides to use the Mars Rover to deliver the pitch instead. This seemed like a really cool and creative way of lettting him win and paying off the episode.

But nope, instead the robot doesn't work out and he ends up getting boo'd by everyone.

And that is basically how the show works, hammering nerd stereotypes for the sake of comedy and never let them have any victories. It gets annoying.

I think what it comes down to is that it's a show that was dated before it ever even started. Nerd culture exploded in the 2000's which is when the show started. But the content they ascribe to nerds is something that I would have seen in the 80's as a depiction of what nerds are - obsessed with comic/video games, fat and/or unathletic, don't get women, don't understand social norms, etc.

But by the time it came out nerd culture became something that was shared across 'non nerd' boundaries. Dudebros were playing Halo, everyone started to love superhero movies, 'nerds' were becoming icons on youtube, etc. It'd be like creating a show now about gay stereotypes from the 90's.

At the end of the day it really doesn't matter. People like what they like. But it's so absurdly unfunny to me. I don't find it funny as a 'jock' and I don't find it funny as a 'nerd'. I don't know what people are getting out of it.

Physical art is inherently worthless too. You can copy the mona lisa as much as you want and have the same picture. Hell people can recreate paintings practically stroke for stroke. But there's a practically intangible allure of owning the original I suppose in the same way as an NFT.

I would never buy an NFT for the same reason I would never spend an absurd amount of money on 'authentic' art. I don't have whatever it is in me that desires the original.
