The only thing I think is kids maybe need less homework (and if theres an overarching project due, keep homework to a minimum while teaching to the project). The elimination of homework entirely is unrealistic if you want to give kids a solid education that focuses on information retention.

The French are planning to end homework in school once and for all. Lot of schools there already dont give homework. Weve just been indoctrinated to think thats how kids can learn, but theres certainly more effective methods that doesnt take away as much time from their childhoods

Like what? How else do you learn genuinely challenging concepts, if not by actually thinking, writing, and reading about them a lot?

They probably served a lot more functions back then than they do now. Which makes it hard to evaluate. Were there better investments? It's not as though there was a central government with complete control over every facet of the state, into which you could pour ever more money and see results. But it's hard to deny that at least some of these must have been vanity projects.

Yes, as far as I understand, that is basically what it is, but they're more lightweight. A VM has to emulate what the operating system does, whereas a container does not.

I don't like or use containers, but they have two big benefits I can think of. The first is compatibility: no having to worry about it working on this machine or that machine, because the entire runtime is ported with the program. The second is isolation: they have their own memory and system resources, so it is harder to compromise the client's computer.

Meh, those languages are appreciably different. You'd probably pick up the syntax a lot faster than if you were learning from 0, and they have the same constructs, but there are just extra things that are different from Python. IT would still take years and projects before you could claim advanced expertise in that language, and it will still probably take a decent investment to learn the basics of them.

But if you, say, knew those three languages comfortably, there's probably like a 75% chance you could pick up the basics of any other random language within a week (assuming it's not something substantially different, like a functional or logic programming language)

This topic is more a criticism of American Republicans, than the actual pro-life stance.

And even though I disagree with Republicans, it should still be said that it is perfectly legitimate to want community, family, friends etc. to be the ones supplying welfare instead of an overly inefficient, bureaucratic government, for many reasons: it's more effective, they can provide shelter, companionship, psychological support, they're more responsive, etc.

Believing this is superior to an overreaching welfare state is in not incompatible or inconsistent with holding pro-life beliefs.

Well I don't really live home, it's yes and no.

But I never lived in my own place alone.

Atm, I live in a big house outskirts of cities (countryside). Got 4 of my older sisters here with their families, my parents, and me.

We have divided the house into apartments for each family, we have common areas and common kitchen. We eat dinner all together. My room is as big as a small 1 room apartment without bathroom and kitchen. I share bathroom with my parents.

Damn man, I gotta say that I love living with flatmates. You get a bunch of same-age, similar-interest people and you'll make some serious friends for life. But at the same time, you're away from family, and if you move away to a big city or something it's pretty easy to drift apart, and it hits mum and dad the hardest when they get older because life gets a bit more boring and often their kids are about the only thing keeping it fresh.

There's good and bad parts, but I think it's a good experience to live away from family.

I was thinking it's probably the same for men, but the article says the rate of men cheating has stayed constant.

Either way, it takes two to tango, and the shift from sex as something done between individuals who love each other to an act of pure pleasure has been socially and emotionally damaging, and the blame is on both sexes. The institution of marriage is now also basically meaningless, having become, essentially, "economic privileges for long-term couples". It seems pretty inevitable that our Christian roots will cease to have any meaning (for better or worse), and at that point, I wouldn't be surprised if there'd be talks about axing marriage as a legal thing altogether.

The two can co-exist. I don't know about America in particular, but the Labour movements in the Commonwealth countries grew out of moderate Fabian and Christian socialism, later merging with liberalism. Michael Joseph Savage, first Labour prime minister, and founder of the NZ welfare state, described his project as "applied Christianity". It'll probably be a bit different in America, but left vs. right really has little to do with science vs. religion, except as it has been weaponised in particular political climates.

There are three cars that spawn around it. Just to the left of that intersection, there are two compounds north and south of the road with garages, and cars often spawn there. Yes, if you are referencing personhood versus existence.

And is this distinction ever evoked anywhere but to justify why some kinds of human beings have no rights? For being such an essential argument, I've never heard viability applied anywhere else, and that makes me skeptical.

RE Viability vagueness: You've already noted the exact difference between the viability of a zygote versus an infant. Viability means that the fetus can exit the womb to breathe, intake food, and pass excrements without the assistance it had in the womb. The infant not being fed days later is not exactly relevant to viability in this context.

Babies still need assistance to do most of those things though. A newborn baby cant really eat unless you give it chewed or soft food, for instance. Lots of neonates have issues, such as meconium aspiration, which affect those functions youve listed. Without assistance, they'll die.

This also means anyone on life support, if even temporary, is a non person with no rights.

You've also skipped one point. Is a foetus a non person because it happened to be born in a country without the healthcare adequate to ensure it survives if delivered early? It's still the same kind of thing in both countries, but the one born into the wealthy, developed country has personhood by virtue of its privilege.

Lastly, if having the biological apparatus to process nutrients "without help" is what confers rights and personhood, then surely flowers and animals and fungi can do this, and are therefore moral people?

Leave the lights on, drop bombs
Do tours of the east
