He had to start the likes of Jarvis Landry, Derrick Henry, and Taylor Gabriel and still managed to put up 142.92 points. He was up by like 9 points and his opponent had Kelce going in the Sunday night game but Kelce couldn't pull through for that guy and he won by 1.44 points without Gurley/Beckham in the championship match. I mean that's not too dissimilar to what happened to me granted in round 1 of playoffs. Highest scoring team in league by a large margin. Playoffs week. Hunt fired, Conner injured, OBJ injured entering round 1 of playoffs. Still score 148.7 and am up by 50+. Lose because opponent has Amari Cooper who goes off for 54.7 points (plus 1 extra player for 5 points). If I had made it through that match I'd have won all remaining matches too. |

I personally didn't find it hard but I could see a non gamer struggling with some fights like Yunalesca or Seymour or maybe even something mundane like Chocoboeater I couldn't think of anything in IX that jumped out as being difficult except maybe the final area. I do agree the battle system is more non gamer friendly though. Not that IXs is overly hard unless I'm remembering it completely wrong. |

She wonders who the main character is and is surprised to hear it is Zidane when I point him out. She's also a little surprised to see that the opening is kidnapping a princess. Ultimately she decides she does not like the name Zidane and renames him Jasper (which is the name of our biggest cat). Kinda surprising she did not opt for one of our other cats names (Monkey). She actually has made zero comments on his tail. She was a little but confused by the battle system when she controls all the party as she expected to only control one (that thought never occurred to me).I tried to prompt her to steal stuff in battle. She steals the potion and Wrist in the first fight but doesn't keep going for Mage Masher. She absolutely loves Vivi and thinks he's adorable. This is not much of a surprise. She talks to most of the townspeople and is sad that Vivi's ticket is counterfeit. I tell her that the game has quite a few minigames and point out the ones available to her. Skipping instantly frustrates her. Completely understandable! The card game she tries once, get a tie and instantly nopes out of it. That was slightly more surprising. She did wtf at Alleyway Jack mugging her. She jokes that she bets 'Jack' is his real name, I laugh and tell her no and I can't tell her what it is. Then I'm a little sad as if she does ever unlock his real name (unlikely) she wont get the reference anyway. Onwards with the plot! She omg's at them stealing the ladder. She instantly recognizes the moogle (from XIV) and is excited to see it as she was unaware they show up in most games. She opts not to rename Vivi when prompted and is then very worried about falling off the roof Queen Brahne makes an appearance and she gasps at her appearance. She asks why Garnet and Brahne don't look alike which I tell her to just keep playing. In the play minigame she gets a 57. She replays and gets 91 and is satisfied with that as it said Brahne was impressed. I tell her there's an extra reward for getting 100 but she doesn't care and plods on. She laughed at the stealing the guards uniform scene. She recognizes Garnet on the staircase due to Garnet being upset watching the play. Thorn and Zorn make their first appearance plus the naked guards show up a little later. Her response is omg this game is so ridiculous (in a good way) She does not rename Steiner. She saves as she has to do some work and I have to leave the house for a while. She hopes to play some more later First impressions I would say are very good! |

| ShatteredElysium 12/23/18 1:41:47 PM #1 | So my girlfriend is not a gamer but she did play a little XIV and liked that (so I guess technically this isn't her first FF). She knows I loved Final Fantasy and it's not a stretch to say it caused me to move to the US and without it I may never have met her (which I can explain later for anyone who cares). So I have decided to introduce her to the mainline games. She also recently changed jobs and her work colleagues like FF so it gives her something to talk to them about Ok so selection criteria time! * I ruled out anything XII onwards because I didn't play 12 myself and I don't feel XIII or XV are fair representations of the series. * I ruled out anything pre PS1 due to graphics. I know some had remakes but I didn't want anything that was handheld only and the PSN versions still have 8 bit graphics. So that ruled out I-VI * Despite Tactics being my favorite of the series it's not really mainline and I don't think the battle system is very newbie friendly, especially for a non gamer. That leaves basically VII, VIII, IX, X I think. * VIII I ruled out because it lacks an updated version of the game (that I'm aware of. Steam maybe?). The last 3 gave me some really thought. * X was the one I thought might be best suited to someone entering the series fresh, especially with the PS4 remaster. However, she always complains about me showing her shows that are sad / downer endings. So I reluctantly ruled out X despite it being otherwise the best fit * VII was the game that introduced me to the series and was the first one I thought of when I came up with this idea. But I feel like I may have to handhold her through some of the story with some critical plot points being tucked away in non mandatory content. So I ultimately opted for IX. It's one of my favorite in the series, it has a remaster on the PS4 and the world is a little bit more cutesy and cheerful than VII. I also don't remember it being particularly hard or complicated (not that VII is). I also think IX is a little bit more true to the roots of the series. So without further ado, Shattered's non gamer girlfriend plays Final Fantasy IX! |

Plus there's another character that is basically a Salem stand-in and he's amazing. That's kinda my gripe though. I expected him to actually be Salem and there was nothing stopping them going down that route but instead they opted for the route they took. |

I think it feels worse because it feels so long since our last game (Saturday) so to see it not even close despite playing well sucks when I was really looking forward to the game |

I didn't keep track of who did which pics but B8ers and people who do pics regularly should really avoid using terrible pictures when it has an impact on the result I think in a match where we already know it isn't going to affect the winner it's not too bad. It's when it potentially directly affects the outcome that I have a problem with it. Bacondorf is relatively harmless in this scenario. It just sucks for xstats due to his bracket placement but that's not the end of the world. I'd rather blame it on bad bracket placement than a bad pic though |

Yes he was going go lose anyway but the point isnt whether he was going to win or not, it's by how much Xstats might not be concrete but they still help. I mean I prized out thanks to xstats. My bracket may have been rushed but when I was in doubt I quickly pulled up xstats and then thought if anything had happened since last contest to cause that fluctuate Xstats are never firm, they are just a guideline. |

Then I let B8 slowly eat away at me and eventually talk me out of it. That was the last time I let B8 change my mind on the latter end of the bracket If I had kept my bracket as i predicted then for sure i would have won the guru easily (I remember that much as I kept checking it all the way). Not sure about overall contest standings as I wasnt prize eligible then so didn't care |

An OLB in the 3rd was a luxury too but even with hindsight I don't see what else I could have grabbed there as I'd have been reaching for a 4th-5th WR or a 5th round TE. Board just didn't fall favorably for me since WRs and TEs all went as far earlier than projected and even HBs went off the board quicker than usual. I could have maybe delayed getting a CB but even if I did that I'd have been reaching for a later HB or full round on a WR or TE. And the CB was going to be a starter I should have probably tried to move up in the 2nd/3rd maybe but would have still been reaching Maybe KCFs wrap up will point out something I missed |

| ShatteredElysium 12/17/18 1:42:48 PM #440 | I have decent hopes for a few of my picks 2nd round CB Bashaud Breeland (77) - Should see the field plenty as CB3. Last year my CB3 had an exceptional year and bounced from 75 to 78. So with him being a rookie, I'd be happy if he sees a similar sort of bump even if he doesn't match what McGuire did 2nd round OT Ryan Schraeder (79) - 1st round grade at the bottom end of the 2nd. Not as good as the OT with a 1st round grade from a few seasons back (82) but with O-line attrition he might see the field at some point. Hopefully he develops at a similar pace as Costonzo so he will be a serviceable backup with Pearson retires (or is cut pending on what age does to him) 3rd round Carlos Hyde (77) - Hopefully Jamario stays healthy and Hyde isn't forced to play HB1 at any point as I wanted a HB a lot higher for that eventuality. Hopefully he just serves as a backup for the next few years and he might get to mid 80s by the time JTs wheels fall off. Or he may end up as eventual backup to Jamarios successor 3rd round OLB Ricardo Haley (74) - Slightly disappointed with his rating, was hoping for a 76 or 77. Unlikely to see the field anytime soon. Best hope for him is a slow climb to the higher 70s by his RFA year which seems to be the norm for my backup OLBs (Tulloch, Galette and Carter all slowly climbed in rating through the years as backups. Tufts did too but as a Day 1 starter alongside an elite OLB) 4th round WR Jeff Janis (75) - Disappointing. Was hoping to get a WR sooner and had also had 76 WRs in the past from the 5th (Janis has a 5th round grade). He's likely to be WR4 despite being higher rated than Owen (73) because Owen is a returner on a 7 year contract and jumped 68 > 73 from his rookie season just returning. Comically Janis only managed 1 bench rep and apparently has the worst strength in the league for a WR although there was another 1 bench rep WR so we shall see what his STR is after he's signed 4th round HB Johnson (71) - Again disappointing and a reach. Should have likely grabbed BPA or a TE here. Unlikely to see the field in any meaningful way so likely just cap saver for the next few seasons 5th round QB C.J. Trapp (72) - Future cap saver. Apparently awful throw power and throw accuracy on scouting (came in the 80s after signing). Unlikely to see a snap 7th round TE Brent Johnson (69) - Position that should have been addressed way sooner in the draft but board was usually unfavorable Likely a 1 year filler or may yet be cut to grab a backup TE in FA |

But we won both our Mexico City games which were technically home games for scheduling purposes so the trip didn't hurt us it seems. I still don't know why it wasn't 1 home, 1 road game which would have been fairer and made more sense 14-15 now and next 4 are all winnable. Hopefully we get at least 3 wins but 2-2 might be ok too given how week the east is in the lower half |

Looks like there were a few trades which threw me off and a couple of the 2nd round reaches I barely even looked at because I was rushing towards the end (still unlikely I call them) If I could have made it, I'd definitely have tried trading up I think. The one year I actually would have drafted a HB highly and they go just before my picks. I guess I can't complain at getting a 1st round OT at the bottom of the 2nd round (and it is what I asked for) |

I'm 5 points off the leaderboard and lost something like 84 points to them :(. Quite a lot and I feel you almost had to in order to finish highly I had Tifa winning her division and Zelda running through the bracket bailed me out of my Snake > Mario pick. Cloud bring rallied over Mario cost me 1st place though. I know the person in 1st had Zelda making the finals so they benefitted a lot |
