Moiraine is an Aes Sedai. They're basically a bunch of powerful magic users that unofficially control the world, kinda like Dune's Bene Gesserit. And they're all women...for reasons I won't say here.

Yep, and it's why I've taken to watching movies with the subtitles on! Almost never have to worry about missing dialogue.

My first listen impressions was "this is...pleasant but unspectacular". Which isn't necessarily a bad thing as it's somewhat the lane of this indy/folk-ish music. The Lumineers self titled album falls into this orbit and, for whatever reason, that's an album I like quite a bit despite not being in my normal listening space.

Just watched this. Enjoyed it quite a bit, though it really left me wanting more.

I read the first 3 books in the series maybe 6-7 years ago. And then I re-read the first 3 and also book 4, about 2 years ago.

The thing about my time reading the Dune books was that it wasn't what I expected it to be. I thought it was going to be about sand worms and battles and space fights, and, well, it's much more introspective and philosophical.

I remember being sort of dissatisfied after finishing the first book. In my mind, Messiah was a very necessary extended epilogue. Based on people's reactions to this movie being "only" half a book, I'm interested to see what the reaction to the end of the next movie will be.

And then the thing is, yes, you could stop reading after Messiah, but the reality is that Children finishes Paul's arc. So, it's basically required reading. I just don't think we're going to get there with this movie series though.

God Emperor though....man that was something else. When I did my 2nd read through of the series, I had planned on reading all 6 of the OG books. But by the time I finished God Emperor my momentum had run out.

Looks like there's a fairly clear delineation between the top(ish) songs and the bottom(ish) songs. At least so far... Watch the next list have Mamacita at the top, lol!

I liked this a good bit more on repeat listens but it definitely falls short of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and good kid, m.A.A.d city. The (roughly) top half of this was enjoyable. But everything from Return of the G down I wasn't very fond of.

I can't argue that a certain portion of those people are divorced from reality, though I will say I think it comes from a better place, or at least the idea of a better tomorrow, than the red hat wearers.

I think it's just the end result of the fact that incrementalism doesn't work as policy when the other side refuses to make any changes whatsoever. Asking for 1 now, then 1 each year thereafter doesn't work because they'll say "ONE IS TOO MUCH". So you just say "fuck it" and ask for 50 because you might as well.

I think completely changing the formula/identity of the game through a movie reboot is kind of interesting. This opens doors for an Uncharted 5/"New Uncharted" that's more interesting than Nolan North coming out of retirement or Drake's daughter doing the same old same old.

Die-hard UC fans would probably hate this, but I welcome a new game with Tom Holland Drake with no prior connection to the first four. It's the perfect chance to move the series from a 3rd person character action game filled with tonally dissonant mass murder to a different experience.

There's no way either the movie or any possible game sequel doesn't maintain the same murdery dissonance. They are big budget and big budget demands ridiculous gun related action sequences.

I've hear way too many people talk about how they can "write off student debt and it doesn't cost any money!". I've said this in another topic, but the ONLY reason I was looking to get a PS5 is because they keep sending me these emails.

I've got plenty of PS4 games I can still play just fine on a PS4 Pro, not to mention the endless backlog of PC games.

If it ever work out I can snag one without too much effort, GREAT! Otherwise, it's not worth the hassle.

I know no one was wondering, but today was another failure.

The link from the email took me to a queue page rather than directly to the store page as it did last time. After about 25-30 minutes, it redirected to the store, where the systems were already sold out. Maybe I should have tried hopping onto the queue earlier, rather than at 2pm exactly as the email indicated...

Yoshi's Wooly World was a pretty good game as I recall. Second best Yoshi game to Yoshi's Island.

I would agree though that Wooly World (or god forbid Story) would be beaten fairly easily by DKC:R/Tropical Freeze.

I just got another email from Sony a few hours ago saying I'm eligible to order one tomorrow afternoon.

This is the 3rd I've gotten. First one was ORDER NOW which I didn't realize, so no luck when I eventually got to it hours later. Second one I was ready but Sony's site was shit ass slow and glitchy and I couldn't finish checkout. Seemed like it took maybe 30 minutes at most to be marked as Out of Stock.

Tomorrow...I'm thinking maybe I'll try on my phone's browser, though that sounds like a recipe for disaster with how shit Sony's site is.

Hollow Knight is GREAT! It starts off a bit slowly, and I know some people aren't fond of the map system. But it's atmosphere/tone/environmental storytelling reminded me of Super Metroid. Plus the exploration is just awesome. Easily one of my favorite games of the past decade.

Yeah, I died a lot to the EMMIs but it felt fair. With that one, you HAD to really use the phantom cloak and hide. Which would have been fine if EMMI left the area but, at least for me, it always seemed to keep far too close, to the point where 2 seconds later it would be actively honing in on me again. At some point I just got lucky.

None of them are that tough. If you are struggling with something you are missing something fundamental about how the shinespark works. There is only one that really takes a lot of execution and it really is just a couple walljumps into a slide.

The thing I couldn't understand is how to store the spark again after you've activated it. I was under the impression you need to do that for a few of those puzzles but maybe just a lack of imagination, instead of a lack of dexterity, on my part.

Did a first listen to this yesterday. Didn't do much for me. Also, man do I hate the non-lyrical/skit endings of so many of these songs...

I've some familiarity with Outkast. I've listened to (at least part of) Stankonia and, of course, I've heard the singles from Speakerboxx/Love Below. I might just be more of a fan of their more accessible/pop songs.

Also just finished! 11:15 / 90% items. Agree that the final fight and sequence was awesome and very satisfying. Not going to bother going for 100% as I don't care for those tough shinespark puzzles.

I also agree with someone earlier on, who said the most annoying part of the game was a particular EMMI sequence. I'm assuming you're talking about the blue one, before you have the gravity suit, and you've got to slooowly make your way through some flooded areas. I was ready to throw my Switch against the wall...

LOL. As I said in an earlier post, those 2 songs were ones I recognized on my initial listens, and there's always a bias towards what you know. I try to combat that as much as I can, but sometimes the singles still end up on top. If I didn't hear them on the radio back in the day, then it would have been from games, probably one of the Tony Hawks.

Time Bomb is, for this album, rather distinctive, and was a quintessential "oh yeah THAT song!" for me.

Ruby Soho is just got that really catchy chorus. I heard that and I immediately knew I'd heard it before, though I couldn't place the when/where. I also think it's more to the overall "sound" of Rancid (or at least this album...), which is why I put it on top.

Overall, I think this is a solid album. It feels like it's 10 minutes (3-4 songs) too long though.

Ranking this too more effort than usual. Normally, I can be doing other things as I'm listening and still get that done. With this, I had to sit and focus and try to keep all the songs straight in my head. Which proved tough, as a lot of them sound a little too similar. If I listened to these songs in a different order then this would likely be a different list. But I think I got stuff generally positioned correctly between the top, middle, and bottom.

Is anyone else struggling with ranking this album? I did my "preliminary ranking" listen and it was really difficult for me. I've enjoyed this album but there's not a lot of highs or lows to make this easy to distinguish songs I've only heard a few times.

Done 2 listens to this so far. I certainly like this type of punk more than The Pixies. (The Pixies are punk, right? Or at least punk-ish?). Time Bomb and Ruby Soho I had heard before, so that was a nice surprise.

With that said, I'm not looking forward to doing a ranking. 19 songs is just too many! This album is the same length as Powerslave and has 11 more songs. I know, it's the nature of metal vs punk songs, but still! It's hard for me to keep all the songs in my head once you start to get much past a dozen.

Like seriously, how the fuck did I never listen to Iron Maiden until just now!?! This album kicks ass. Iron Maiden in general kicks ass.

It's hard to have a bad ranking for this album. Losfer Words was the clear bottom rung for me but even that's still pretty good. For the rest, I could have rearranged it a lot of different ways without feeling badly.

Powerslave is simply a more "approachable" album; it's got better lyrical hooks and more "fun" guitar melodies. Crack the Skye, in comparison, is a "heavier" album and feels more slow and plodding.

Lowest ranker was at #16. I have to wonder if that will be the best low ranking of the remaining albums. I know it's not OK Computer because of myself. Abbey Road I feel like some people weren't high on. Hard to think of why anyone would dislike Nevermind or Rumours though but who knows. I feel like Rumours is more likely to have a low outlier of those 2...but I still think it would be my guess for "best low ranking". It'll be close though. I'm thinking the number for "best low ranking" is somewhere around #12-#13. And no, I didn't go back and look at the submitted lists ;) I just have fun speculating.

I have legitimately found everything since to be to be total garbage.

One, really? Have you played it recently? I loved it back in the day but on replay, it's not good. Terrible camera, awful level design, bland combat... It was a replay, so all the magic of seeing Disney / Square was gone and all I had was the gameplay which did not hold up.

I tried playing thru The Story So Far and stopped during Birth By Sleep. I keep telling myself I'm going to go back and at least try the rest of the games but man it's tough trying to play a lot of those games in 2021...

Yeah, I was afraid that was going to happen...

I'm TRULY at a loss for how I've never listened to an Iron Maiden album before. I've heard Run for the Hills and The Number of the Beast before, but never an full album, despite the fact that I went through a major metal phase back in college. I enjoy(ed) the hell out of bands like Metallica, Symphony X, Sonata Arctica. I've listened to Blind Guardian and Dragonforce and plenty of other metal bands/songs of various sub genres. And yet I never journeyed back to the source!

All of which is to say that this was a very positive first listen. This is the type of music that I've loved in the past and it was great to get back to it again.

Nothing too surprising so far. I know all 3 of those were nearer the middle of my personal list but I can easily see why those are near the bottom.
