Not gonna lie, I kind of wish I could use motion control for sword swings. Not to the fidelity of SS but the simpler TP style would be nice. Maybe its just me having just replayed SS and tending to play with separated joy-cons but I miss the waggle

A very solid album with no bad songs...but also no super strong songs either. It all kind of just blends all together after a while and so this is a pretty arbitrary ranking of songs.

After the last few MCU movies being not so great (not bad mind), I was ready to wait for Disney+ on this one. Then I saw this topic, and I thought "why make a separate topic when we have the MCU one". I figured they had done something dumb. I needed to know, to the point of going to see it rather than play more Zelda.

This was finally WAS a great movie and really shows how "meh" most of Phase 4 and 5 have truly been.

Did BotW automatically mark on the map where you found things like Korok seeds? I feel like the answer is no but maybe they added that with the DLC that I didn't play?

They tell you to put certain materials in the thing but not HOW to do that. Pissed me the fuck off before I finally stumbled into it when I needed to make food to get through the cold section. You have to HOLD stuff... I don't remember them explaining that and it's been a long time since I played BotW, so I didn't remember. Seems like you always want to maximize your inputs (5) to get the most rewards.

Finished the opening area, though I didn't beat that optional boss. Took the big jump and it was pretty neat marking some points of interest during the fall.

I'm also on the fence about the building stuff. In theory it's neat but I found some of it to be a bit finicky, like when I was trying to get a hook on something at a right angle. Also, the framerate is fucking awful when moving some objects around!

This is just making me want to nominate Zelda II for GotM Replay

Zelda 2 is probably the worst actual game of the bunch but I kind of give it some slack because of its age.

Spirit Tracks is the only (other) one on the list with no redeeming qualities at all.

Triforce Heroes is pretty bad as well. OG Zelda falls into the same "slack because of its age" category. Skyward Sword isn't great but it's FAR better than those.

Second listen I did with the History Version since I missed out on Sarajevo. Honestly, everyone should just listen to that version.

• It's got the otherwise missing first track, which gives some weight to the last song Versailles
• The narration only adds a few minutes to the total runtime, so why bother switching between versions
• I think the narration is well done and "fits" while not being overly long and giving good background for songs that are strongly rooted in historical context

The thing about a lot of these songs is that I usually only need to listen to them for 90 seconds max to get what I need.

Exactly that. If I could just climb directly up the mountain, I'd do that every time. When I can't, that's when I run around it to try to find a less steep slope, and in the process discover...whatever. Or maybe there's no other way and I mark that to come back to later when I'm more capable.

Fun tends not to come from being able to do anything but from testing the boundaries of the limitations.

BotW is like Hades for me.

Here's this game that obviously a ton of people love and the people who like this kind of game are ecstatic. Me, I hate it, I know I'm in the minority but I just can't stand it. However, it's no big deal, because the people making these games basically never do direct sequels, so I can hold out for the next one.

Then both of them announce their next game is a sequel to the previous game that I fundamentally did not like, and there's really nothing that can be improved to MAKE me like them without complete changing the game's core.

So now instead having to wait 3-5 years for the next entry I'll enjoy from this studio, I have to wait potentially 7-10.

And there's a lot of salt there.

I feel this, even if I'm on the opposite end of loving both games.

I have some trepidation with Tears because I'm not sure I really needed another game like that. Plus I'm not super big into the building aspects. But we shall see.

Hades 2 was a bigger disappointment because that studio was always done completely different games up to that point. I'm left to wonder why they went back to that well again. And I hope it wasn't just a monetary decision because Hades was their biggest hit. Again, they get the benefit of the doubt because I'm certain it'll still be fun, though it's likely to have less impact.

I did put "hating" in quotes for a reason. There's a few kooks calling it terrible as if it's a 2/10 game, which is objectively just not true. There's very few mainstream published games that truly fall into that category and a mainline Zelda game is certainly not going to be one of them. Mostly when I say "hating" it's a certain revisionist history of "actually it's not really that good of a game" 7/10 crowd. That's not true hate, that's more jumping on the reactionary bandwagon.

I find all this retro "hate" that BotW is getting on this site to be bizarre, especially when this is the same fanbase that still holds up Mario 64 as one of the best games of all time. Those are completely incongruous things in my head.

I get that BotW is not for everyone since it's a fairly large departure from series norms. I also get that its ideas have been done better in other games that learned from its legacy. (Wait for the tide to somehow bizarrely turn on Elden Ring too in 5 years...) But it's place in history as a classic and its effect on the industry cannot be denied.

Now read the same sentence above and replace BotW with Mario 64.

Getting back to Odyssey vs BotW, I'm not surprised that the crowd that thinks BotW is too open and boring loves Odyssey, as that's a game that rewards you with moons for basically everything that you do. Personally, I found it to be a bit much. (I think the Galaxy games and 3D World are better 3D Marios.) Yes, there's just as many Korok seeds in BotW but they're more spaced out and they're not the core focus of the game.

Sometimes you know 15 seconds in that an album is going to be for you. I heard the instrumentation and I was intrigued, then the vocals kicked in and I knew. I was very much enjoying my first listen, though I noticed something that annoyed me a bit. Almost every song, with minor variation is: verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, chorus, chorus. Now I'm sure a lot of albums are formulaic in structure but even I noticed it here, and it kind of brought the album down a bit I think.

Also, Stormtroopers isn't the first song?!? Well shit...

If you can get your work done correctly and on time, who cares where you work from. There are times where being in person for a meeting makes sense but that's a very small amount of time.

Commuting is such a waste of time and resources. Not to mention all the extra sleep I get with a 0 minute commute.

This one grew on me a bit with subsequent listens. Some of this is a little too generic rock-ish but then there's songs where it comes together and I really enjoyed the sound.

Going to be a bit late on my ranking. I need to do a third listen, and I might be able to get it done tomorrow morning but more likely will be tomorrow night.

There's MORE than ever before, which inevitably means both more good and more bad.

I also have to imagine that a lot of "edges get sanded down" for writers making stuff for big franchises like the MCU. Those companies don't necessarily want the most groundbreaking, visionary scripts. They want shit that will appeal to wide audiences, which means it really can't get to "avant garde". I mean, isn't that what happened with the original Antman script?

UnMetal defeated!

It was a fine game but nothing more for me. The fourth wall(ish) stuff was fun. I think some of the adventure game elements got to be a little too much, especially in some of the conversations where you're having to fail over and over just to find the right combination (Texas?!?).

I have not, though I think I've heard of UnEpic. I did know going in that it was a spoof game from the 5 seconds of research I did on the title. I just wasn't sure (and the jury is still out) on whether the humor would land or not.

3 missions in to UnMetal. It's a game that's sometimes stupidly funny and sometimes just stupid. I'm kind of enjoying it so far.

Patrick has on his LinkedIn that they had (not sure if current or peak), 6000 subs at $5/month.
