i had no idea the NBA was restarting today

I just tuned in, did I see video streams of people acting as the crowd? if so, why were half the seats empty lmao

so based on a tv ad, i'm guessing you need to pay to be put in as a face in the crowd

no kamikaze attack has ever worked in DBZ, right? chaotzu blew himself up against vegeta, cell blew himself up and killed goku but no one else

i guess the saibaman killed yamcha by blowing himself up lmao

i like the cell games stuff but yeah super vegeta was incredible. especially cell talking about how vegeta looked so delightful with his face in the mud

also i know i'm alone here but have to say it - i love the great saiyaman stuff. just a completely different genre for the show and it succeeds at it IMO.

the Z button felt awesome to hold. it's the N64's Z-button and the wiimote's joystick's trigger for best trigger-buttons ever.

it also had a hilarious aesthetic combination of futuristic and kiddie that i still love

Gohan was the gatekeeper, and he opened the door for all of the bullshit discount super saiyan transformations that came after him. I just cannot be happy with this, personally.

i see where you're coming from with this, but i don't think it detracts from the cell saga. you can argue the slippery slope with the buu saga, but the cell saga self-contained is fine

i was most bummed about vegeta and goku achieving SSJ2, actually. in my headcanon, kid gohan's SSJ2 is the strongest one, and vegeta is only able to achieve SSJ2 with babidi's boost. leave SSJ2 alone and take away SSJ from the kids. let gotenks have it (and SSJ3) since fusions work differently but that way you cheapen SSJ and SSJ2 less

toriyama obviously didn't give a fuck but that's what i felt would've been most narratively resonant!

believe it or not, this DOES describe my exact feelings. I already thought it was stupid that Gohan had such an easy time going SSJ as a kid just by training in the hyperbolic time chamber. him going SSJ2 and defeating Cell felt incredibly forced and unearned. and this is coming from someone who read the entire manga just two years ago, so this is all still fresh in my mind.

I know the story is that Toriyama wanted to phase out Goku and replace him with Gohan, but then had to bring Goku back later on because fans weren't happy with Gohan as the protagonist. I don't know how true this rumor actually is, but I can say that I personally felt pretty unsatisfied with Gohan's sudden rise to power and everyone accepting that he was the only hope for defeating Cell. especially when you remember he was 11 at the time.

yes, Goku was powerful at 11. but he wasn't the most powerful. and he was nowhere near THIS powerful.

so other than gohan going SSJ which was silly, what i like about gohan in the cell games was that it was forced... but it wasn't forced by the author; it was forced by a character. goku acted like a fucking maniac and he almost failed by tipping his hand, and he very rightly gets called on his bullshit. but it's only because of his bullshit that they're able to save the world from cell.

I liked it. But it made the same mistake that other series have of trying to be a "reboot" while also holding on to as many of its old characters as possible and therefore creating a middle ground that would make no one happy, because those who wanted something fresh were forced to stay stuck to the past, and those who liked the past just get annoyed that there's a taste of what they liked, but covered in all the new stuff they don't.

Apollo Justice did the same thing.

apollo justice damaged its canon
