Yeah I know about commander's costing more to resummon, but Ayula dying three times means the mana cost is what most other commanders cost after one death.

But yeah, I'll look into more board wipes and damage spells, see how that goes. My goblin deck and demon deck (because of Rakdos) are probably too creature-heavy to stand up to the bears. Thanks guys!

I have a few decks, but I'm no card master and I haven't spent a lot so they're all probably mediocre. Thankfully my friends play decks of similar levels so this bear deck is the only one I'm having trouble with. Ayula costs so little (especially with green allowing lots of mana). It's always out early either powering up or auto-killing one of my creatures every turn so I can't get anything going. For example, my Goblin tribal/Ib Halfheart deck doesn't work because Ib can only make goblins explode for 4 damage and Ayula is always stronger than that by the time Ib comes out and the rest of my goblin boosters get picked off every turn.

The only time I managed to beat Ayula was with my Gorgon/Deathtouch deck, and that was only because I managed to get Damia, Sage of Stone equipped with first strike so the bears couldn't kill it and I was drawing seven cards every turn. I figured killing Ayula a few times would be an equalizer but my Demon/Devil deck killed the bear four times over the course of one game and green allowed so much mana that Ayula just came back, powered up, and killed my commander (Rakdos, Lord of Riots) before I could do much of anything.

I can sometimes beat my friend's crazy Sliver deck or my other friend's Gishath/Dinosaur deck depending on how many dinosaurs he draws, but I can't seem to overcome Ayula. Having a dozen creature destruction spells per deck just to ensure I draw enough to keep Ayula at bay is the best answer I can imagine, but I'm worried that's the wrong approach. I haven't needed to do that with any of the other decks I face.

Would it be alright if I came here for noob advice? I can't seem to beat my brother's Ayula bear deck and I don't know enough about the strategies to understand what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it.

I finally went back and finished Pastel Memories from earlier this year. It has a super low rating on MAL, which I feel is undeserved. It was fine for what it was, a low-production battle/gag anime based on a gacha game I've never heard of. The characters were all one-note stereotypes, but they were still fun. Special mention goes to Yuinya, the awesome cat girl. What little story there was also consisted of shallow anime references, but I enjoyed those too. Even though I hadn't seen a lot of what the specific episodes referenced, they made me more interested in checking those shows out (for example, Rozen Maiden seems like it could be neat, but my backlog is so stupid I probably won't get to it any time soon). In the end, this was a filler anime. Still, in terms of filler anime, I could've done a lot worse.

Speaking of my stupidly huge backog, there's always room for it go get stupider! I haven't looked into the current season at all, so I'd appreciate it if someone could point me to the cute/fun anime of the season.

I finished The Demon Girl Next Door, aka the best anime of last season (which, admittedly, isn't saying much given how little I've watched this year). Shamiko and Momo were a great pair and the show maintained a consistently fun tone throughout. All of the side characters were great too, though a few were sadly underutilized compared to how much potential they had. I wanted to see more of the girl from the magic club! Still, I don't want to complain too much because anime like this is always a pleasure to watch.

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl was indeed pretty great. I rewatched the anime season over the last two days in preparation for the movie, and I'd say the movie was similar in quality, a solid 9/10.

Regarding what prof spoiler-tagged That really cleared up the ending for me, so thank you. I hadn't made the connection about Mai's movie helping Shoko, and my confusion over why she was okay for some reason was my only real problem. That makes a lot of sense and understanding it makes the movie a whole lot better.

Anyway, I appreciated how the plot kept twisting. I put together the clues about Sakuta's heart early on and worried that would be some big reveal at the end but oh no, they get that one out of the way a few minutes later and then it start getting into some great and unexpected developments!

So yeah, good movie. I hope there's more Rascal anime content in the future!

I haven't read Dresden but legions of fans swearing something gets better is familiar to me. I experienced that with Brandon Sanderson. He's the new god of writing so I checked out Elantris and found it super mediocre. Everyone told me his first novel was just rough so I read the Mistborn trilogy and found it super mediocre. Then everyone told me he didn't really get good until some other gigantic series and just... nah. I gave him four books worth of shots, I'm good.

I used to be really bitter about it and argued on the books and literature board that people only liked Sanderson because he writes fast (dude wrote a whole novel in a single airplane ride). Nowadays I just think people have different tastes and move on to read other things. I'm more of a science fiction guy anyway.

I enjoyed all three movies (first was obviously best) but they were my first encounter with fan theories being way better than the actual plot resolution. After Reloaded when Neo seemed to have powers in the real world, a lot of people theorized that 'reality' was another level of the matrix to keep the rebels happy. That would've been neat. Ah well.

The city invasion scenes in Revolutions were fun to watch, at least.

I could understand her building up resentment towards you, since she would already be there if not for you, and her being confused by how to process that resentment. Still, I would think that you agreeing to go would make her excited if that was the case. It honestly feels like she might want to break up but not want to be responsible for the hurt feelings of actually breaking up so she's trying to get you to do it. You agreeing to go would provoke an 'oh no this is backfiring' response, which is what that reads like. I dunno.

My brother is married to someone from another country. If she decided she wanted to move back, I don't think it would be fair to say 'well she already tried living here so I guess you have to try to keep it fair'. Granted they have a house, children, and careers so it would be a much bigger thing, but still.

If they originally lived in a third country and moved to Canada at his request, then I'd agree that he wasn't being fair, but the natural course of their lives led to where they are now. I'm also not even saying she's being unreasonable, I don't think anyone is. I just think it's too much of a guilt trip to say 'well she already tried Canada so it's only fair that you try Portugal' when I don't think it's the same thing.

I'm guessing the mental illness theory is based off details we aren't privy to so I won't comment on that. I just want to say that it isn't fair to equate already living in Canada with moving to Portugal. Presumably she came to Canada through her own free will, or at the very least not at his request. Moving to Portugal at her request is a different thing and it's okay to be wary about a change that could easily be permanent.

I like Mao quite a bit but the rest of the characters didn't have quirks or jokes that stood out as much, they were just there a lot of the time. Plus whoever made this had a weird hair combing fetish, the main dude combed his way through every girl in the cast before the end and it was mostly just the same 'joke' over and over.

I needed a new cute anime to watch so based off Mac's recommendation from months ago, I watched Hina Logic - from Luck & Logic. I've never seen the original Luck & Logic but maybe I'll get around to it someday, surely it can't be that bad.

Anyway, Hina Logic was pretty good! Lion and especially Mahiro were great, I never got tired of her expressions and explosive inventions. Most of the other characters were fun too. My only complaint is that Karin and Karen were underutilized, they should've at least had half an episode focusing on them or something. The whole transformation battle thing (a holdover from the more action-oriented Luck & Logic I'm guessing) also felt kind of pointless for the first half but they started doing neat things with it in the second half, so that was nice. Overall, it succeeded as a cute anime.

By original I meant that the Marvel movies are all adaptations of comic book stories, which to me precludes originality since it's the same story in a different format. I realize now that other people might judge originality by how original the comic story was so I should've worded that better.

The Cells at Work OVA was fine. Equivalent in quality to the rest of the show at least. That episode could've used more Red Blood Cell imho

I also finally watched the last two episodes of Marchen Madchen. Ahh, memories. It was one of the first airing anime I watched, and so far it's the only one whose production fell apart so hard that the last two episodes were delayed for eight months. I was surprised by how much I remembered after more than a year and the conclusion was at least decent. Hazuki is still cute and the ED is still nice to listen to.

I'm probably one of the few people in the world who is sad about this. Not too sad since I don't really follow box office numbers, but I've never cared about the Marvel movies. I've only seen GotG1 and the Edward Notron Hulk movie.

By comparison, I saw Avatar three times in theaters. It remains the only movie I've gone out to see multiple times like that. Admittedly I haven't seen it since but I still remember it fondly. All the complaints about it being cliche always felt so overblown to me (especially nowadays since the people making that argument are implying Marvel movies are bastions of originality LOL). There are no new stories and Avatar put one hell of a coat of paint over an old one.

Anyway, RIP Avatar's record.

Wasteful Days of High School Girl was kind of meh but it looks like it could have potential if the side characters get more focus. None of the main three did anything for me but Loli and the chuuni girl were fun.

Dumbbells was also kind of meh, I don't care about the exercise information and there wasn't much past that. Maybe it'll improve once they introduce more characters, muscle fetish girl was boring.

Making that post actually reminded me that I hadn't finished Cinderella Nine so I watched the last few episodes of that.

Cinderella Nine was fine. The animation was low quality more often than not but I don't care about stuff like that. One or two episodes focused on dumb drama too, which wasn't great. Still, for the most part it was cute girls playing baseball and on that front it was decent. Not up there with the great cute girl sports anime like Scorching Ping Pong Girls or anything, but I don't regret watching it.

Just finished, I actually thought that was worse than S2 and way worse than S1. Still enjoyable but the series has really gone downhill since the amazing first season.

I had two major problems. One was the lame drama shoehorned in between everyone. There wasn't a single relationship that wasn't plagued by some fight over dumb things that really shouldn't matter considering the situation they're in. I also didn't like how the Mind Flayer plot and the Russian plot seemed like two completely disconnected stories with only one flimsy thing linking them together. Like, the gate being slightly open was what let the Mind Flayer operate but that's it. It didn't feel like enough. The Russians never even learned the Mind Flayer existed.

I'm no expert on the industry but why did we all blindly accept the fact that game devs are barely scraping by and are being crushed by Steam's cut (which is industry standard)? Literally the first thing I found on google says "Video game revenue in 2018 reached a new peak of $43.8 billion, up 18 percent from the previous years, surpassing the projected total global box office for the film industry"

Also, these companies aren't charities who would continue making games for people out of the goodness of their heart if there was no money in it. If they aren't making money in the current system, the price of games would change. Simple as that. Anyone who can't manage it has a bad business or bad product. I refuse to feel sad for them.

I also think a lot of people are being dishonest when they claim Epic is just another free launcher so only whiny people care about this. Epic gives a vastly degraded user experience compared to Steam. It has no reviews, no discussion pages for games, no guides, the store is difficult to use, etc, etc. The list of basic features that Epic is missing is easy to find. And no, it isn't fair to say 'Steam started with less features too so give Epic a chance to catch up' because we're in 2019 now, not 2003. No online store in the modern day should launch without a shopping cart and act like that's okay.

I wouldn't mind if Epic competed with Steam purely on price. Take less of a cut from every sale and suggest the devs pass half of that back to the consumer, that would be great. Then people could decide if saving a few bucks was worth losing out on those features I mentioned. By snatching exclusives, though, Epic is forcing people to put up with their shitty store. To compare these to real world shops, it's like a store opening up in the bad part of town where all the employees are unhelpful jerks and there's a weird smell. Sure, it's just another store and it's no different driving to that store than any other store, but no one would shop there unless they're literally forced to, which is what Epic does when they spend big money on exclusives instead of spending a little bit of money improving their lousy store.

That's why I support Steam and not Epic. And I'm not some rabid Steam fanboy, I was furious at Valve when it looked like they were going to ban the smutty visual novels I like. Unlike Epic, Steam actually cares about what its users think and they wisely backed down from that.

If Steam were truly pro-consumer, they would have a 0% cut, and the dev could sell you the game for $70 straight up.

This is a dumb point when Epic has a lower cut and games cost exactly the same. If Steam went to 0% devs would pocket the difference and the consumer wouldn't get anything (which I know is your ideal since you want to be a game developer but at least be honest about it)

and the smaller games literally can't exist at all.

Smaller games do exist, though?

The ones with Oda and the pastry guy both sucked because they were such terrible people that it just wasn't fun to watch.

I basically couldn't stop laughing during that arc. Pastry guy was way too ridiculous to take seriously

Eh, even if he was a caricature, the pain that he was causing was real enough that I couldn't enjoy it.
