The h-line of kana also has handakuten (half-diacritic), more colloquially known as maru (circle), which changes the h-sound to a p sound. I don't believe they've said it outright, but Patreon have implied in the past that many of their decisions have been due to pressure from Visa, MasterCard and PayPal. Unfortunately, due to new laws that were passed after said payment processors were already established, creating competing platforms is impossible.
