For one Carpenter said they left no intentional clues with eyes or breath in that scene to decipher who is the Thing. Second if the game is still canon which it was at one point, neither Childs or Macready is the Thing.

Childs wasn't a Thing

It is strongly hinted to be Childs in multiple ways, the most concrete evidence is that when Mac gives him the bottle he drinks it without a care if its been infected, and the score has an ominous synth beat that kicks in when the thing is about to attack.

Less concrete evidence is Childs is also shot with no eye gleam or frost breath, when Mac talks the frost from his breath is significant and covers his face, Childs has none. There are other theories but I wont list them all.

I got a few good laughs but it seemed more shocking than funny, being forced into disguises and covid cancelling some of his plans kind of blunts its impact. Word was spreading of filming and his pranks were getting harder to pull off.

Another weird thing is how people didn't really react to his pranks, like they're used to weird behavior and staying in their lanes.
