| Ozmose 10/29/22 8:38:03 PM #19 | I remember reading up on it many years ago. If I recall correctly, it was mainly an effort to prevent immigrant labor along the southern border. They knew marijuana was in common use by the workers, so that's what they targeted. They didn't outright make it illegal, they pulled the standard government bullshit where it required a tax stamp. A tax stamp that they of course never issued. The NFA used a similar scheme. Equally super racist, but the anti-gun people love it. The reason short barreled rifles and short barreled shotguns are restricted, is because at the time handguns were very expensive, so most of the poor black communities would simply cut down the barrel on a rifle or shotgun to have something more compact for protection. Considering lynchings were still common place at the time it's pretty understandable why they would want some firepower close by. After they were added to the NFA, you were required to pay $200 for a tax stamp (roughly the equivalent of $4,000 at the time) to own one. An amount that poor minorities at the time would be lucky to scrape together in a lifetime. The law remains unchanged to this day. --- Most people are other people. I probably use the D Rocket Kaze the most. I grabbed the Polished Zirconium w/Bronze internals. Zirc is really heavy, feels good in the hand. | Ozmose 10/24/22 1:58:41 AM #39 | Dahmer was an interesting one. I've been a bit of a true crime aficionado for a while now. I don't think the Netflix show really portrayed him correctly. He is one of the few serial killers I feel any pity for. He was a SEVERE alcoholic, and had brutal depression. He actually hated everything he did, and hated himself for doing it. It certainly doesn't justify any of it, but when compared to other serial killers, he was pretty tame. Of the categories I usually dump serial killers in, high body count, fucked up insanity, and sheer monstrous evil, Dahmer doesn't even make in the top 5 for any of them. --- Most people are other people.
