I remember reading that you could use the statue "offensively", but I wouldn't have guessed you could use it to "kill" fire. That doesn't make sense even by Mario logic.

I got Captain Planet. I never watched the show, but he seems like a pretty nice, powerful guy, so I think I got a good result.

What game was this? I don't recall him ever saying more than "Good luck!" and "Wah hah hah!". (I guess technically those are full sentences, but they're so short that they don't really count, in my opinion.)

However, Wario speaks in full, grammatical sentences in some of the manuals, and it does seem weird.

That's actually what reminded me of the show; I was looking at R. L. Stine's Wikipedia page and saw a mention of it. That reminded me that I'd once seen an ad for Eureeka's Castle toys; I think it was this one:



The big thing I remembered was the dragon being named Magellan, which seemed like such a weird name. Did he do a lot of exploring on the show?

Because nothing in the game actually refers to it by name, and it's brown. Add that to the fact that the game is based on the childhood adventures of a kid (which is also why Link is almost always drawn looking so young), and it's kind of clear the original intent was for it to be a wooden sword. Sort of underlined by the fact that wooden swords show up in later games as well.

Yes, in looking this up I did see that some later Zeldas had official Wooden Swords. If the Japanese manual for Zelda 1 called it a Wooden Sword, obviously what I said before was wrong.

The first sword in Zelda 1 could be brown and made of copper or bronze.

I also think Mama's Family is funny. I did watch it when it was first on, and I thought it was funny then too, but I think it's funnier now because none of the jokes go over my head.

Since the entire franchise is supposedly mostly inspired by Shigeru Miyamoto's childhood, I can only assume that, yes, in Japan it is entirely normal for small children to play with bombs.

And to also jump on turtles, throw fireballs at things, and beat up old men in caves with wooden swords.
