If she passed the tests, I don't think it would have been right for them not to hire her. You can't have employers changing the rules at the last minute just to keep out job candidates they don't like for irrelevant reasons.

Also, if she's actually as fit as she says she is, I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't mind dating her. It turns me on when a woman is fat but strong. >_> She looks good to me in that first photo:

Because ladies' night doesn't ban males from the bars. This one does so it's different.

You're right; this Wonder Woman thing is a little worse, then. I just meant that since this Wonder Woman thing is just for one or two shows, it's not going to put men at a permanent disadvantage with respect to women, any more than ladies' night at a bar does. And if, as Foxx said, men-only clubs are legal in the U.S. and Canada, these sorts of woman-favoring events are probably legal too. I just wish the woman who wrote the original article had made those points instead of just going on about how it's time women had something for themselves.

Actually, I might accept someone as being something they literally aren't if they've spent long enough living full-time as that other thing. So if a non-white person continuously presents as white, self-identifies as white, and is treated by everyone else as white, I might consider the person white if this goes on for long enough, since for day-to-day interactions the person may as well be. (I won't say anything about people "transitioning" to races other than my own.)

I saw this criterion in the article supporting transracialism that caused so many SJW-type people to flip out; it's in the paragraph starting "I do not think so."

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/hypa.12327/full

As she says at around that point, this criterion might allow somebody to change their gender or race, but it probably wouldn't allow somebody to become a cupcake, since it's hard to see how somebody could convincingly present as a cupcake to other people.

As a trans woman, trans race is not real. With sexes, development abnormalities may result, but with skin color, there's nothing.

Yes, I'm thinking that if somebody wants me to treat them as something they don't appear to be, there has to be something physical that makes it ambiguous to me what they actually are. I can assume that most transgendered people have brain structure and/or hormones that it make it not clear what sex they "really" are, but if somebody has "white" skin and no African ancestors, I don't know why I should believe that they think they're black as opposed to just identifying with black people.

Well?

I mean, do you think that someone could sincerely believe themselves to be of a different "race" than their outward appearance would suggest, and that the only thing that would help them would be for them to change their skin color and other features as much as feasible?

I suppose it could happen, but it would seem to be a very specific disconnect between a person's brain and the rest of their body, since what we refer to as different "races" of people really aren't that different genetically (or so I've read). In contrast, there are a number of genetic and hormonal differences between men and women, and there are intersex people, so I can see there being an "intersex" person who outwardly looks like one sex but internally has hormones and brain structure more like the opposite sex. And if somebody is "intersex" in that way, it makes sense that only hormones and/or surgery could help them (though of course different trans people need different treatments).

(I know I made a topic about this a few days ago, but I let it die before I said much in it, and it was also about a specific article rather than the general question.)

Did you see this? She'll be making videos about other social justice topics, but not focusing on video games.

Are you happy? I guess it was time for her to end her series on sexism in video games; she seemed to be saying the same things about women being powerless over and over. In her final video she says that most of the time when you have a female NPC helping you in a game, she's there only to unlock doors and toss you items; but I don't know if that behavior is really more widespread among female helpers than male helpers. I would think it would be common among all helper characters in games, since it doesn't require much AI. At least, I didn't have any pre-existing image in my mind of helpers as female or male, whereas if I think of someone who needs to be rescued in a game, I do reflexively think of a princess.

So this white female professor wrote an article saying that, if you support transgendered people for many of the common reasons, it's at least possible that there are transracial people you should support (transracial meaning that a person internally feels themselves to be a race other than what they are by external criteria, as Rachel Dolezal supposedly feels). Then the article angered a lot of people, and the journal that published it apologized and said that it should have been rejected.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/05/transracialism-article-controversy.html

Anybody have any thoughts? I can't read the actual article, so I don't know how many arguments about the difference between race and gender it ignored; but if it is that obviously bad if you know a lot about these issues, it's unfortunate that the journal didn't reject it and keep the professor from making a fool of herself.

I'm pretty sure they make you do the condensing and reorganizing so that if, hypothetically, someone has to make changes to the code months or years later, he or she can quickly see what needs to be done and not have to worry that the whole thing will crash for no apparent reason.

As for the debugging, I guess it's annoying, but you can't avoid it, since if the code isn't doing what it's supposed to, it doesn't help anybody. Obviously some bugs are bigger deals than others.

He was signing things, so I had him sign a mini-poster that came with my Atari 5200, which was the first video game system I had. I hoped he was going to be like, "Oh my god, how did you deal with a system like that?", but he didn't have much to say. I asked him if he ever got to play his Atari 5200, and he said he thought he did, but that he didn't have many games for it. So it was kind of underwhelming.

For what it's worth, I never had any trouble with my Atari 5200 controllers. Maybe they've degraded over time; I don't know because I've forgotten how to set the system up and might not even be able to with my current TVs.
