Just because I don't have an attachment doesn't mean anything. I've had to put a dog down before because he got bit by a raccoon with rabies and I had no idea until it was to late. I felt guilty then and I still feel guilty now and it's been years. I think about it frequently. Don't ever assume how I'd feel without knowing me.

It's always remarkable to me how quickly some people will jump to the defense of whatever X animal tickles their fancy for Y arbitrary reasons, and attempt to demonize anyone who would do otherwise -- yet there are likely countless other sorts of creatures they would not afford that same luxury for, and probably step on, crush, or otherwise eradicate in the thousands (maybe even fully intentionally) over the course of their lives, all without a second thought (and without a $20k incentive) Would you save a person if it was the same situation or take the money instead? To be fair, the prequel was actually sorta already built up, since the movies already stated Wahlberg's character has known Ted for most of his life.
