Here's the problem: trolls on GameFAQs are trying to upset people, make them have negative reactions. Because what they're doing is with forethought and they're being disingenuous, and thus detached from the subject, it's easy for them to worm around the rules to have the maximum impact while also having the minimal infringement on the rules. Whereas those affected by their trolling will be responding on reaction, out of emotion, and will not be as likely to exhibit the same mindfulness of the rules in how they respond, making it more likely for them to be punished than the one deliberately provoking it.

That is frustrating for users of this site, and all too commonplace. And the mod response to people complaining about this has never been helpful, and often just makes users feel worse.

This very argument has essentially taken place 1000+ times over the course of this site's history. I see no point in either party continuing this 1001th time unless someone has thought of a way to break the cycle this will go through.

I'm trying to follow your logic here. Because you can't verbally attack someone posting something racist it means they are going to be unpunished for it?

I'd warn, or potentially flat out suspend someone on a clean history for trying to argue for genocide. Just because you can't go reply "you're a racist" doesn't mean that we suddenly allow everything under the sun.

I have seen plenty of users (trolls and otherwise) delicately skirt around the more...difficult elements of their own ideology or recommended course of action in order to try and remain onside with the TOS and despite it being plainly obvious what they are suggesting, they avoid punishment. By comparison, it is a lot harder to let's say call out somebody for that in an indirect manner. It's the weasel words element.

Also I saw a user get warned for advocating nuking an entire country before and saying it was the humane course of action lol

like, having hyped up change and development for a while, to most notably clamp down on name calling just seems like such a non-event.

most of the shitposting on CE can be tied back to repeated gimmick/trollbait accounts (of which there are many) and generally abhorrent stuff that seems to go largely unpunished. just seems counterproductive to tie the hands of the mods in terms of using their own judgement/familiarity with boards to mod things accordingly while expanding their ability to uhhhh counter rampant name calling.

cba compiling these into paragraphs but some additional thoughts:

- doesn't Poe ask if Holdo is *the* Vice-Admiral Holdo or something along those lines? that kinda presumes he knows of her in some context, presumably an impressive one.

- I always figured Holdo's plan was disseminated to the higher ups in the group and Poe simply wasn't one of them particularly after his demotion. People use the 'mutiny' as a stick to beat her with but it was obviously the case that a lot of people supported her also.

I don't think the movie was perfect but overall it was a lot better than TFA and the theoretical CGI ninja laser sword fight film we could have gotten.

yeah, Holdo probably could've "just told" Poe et al above it (and maybe they should've introduced some lame 'spy' angle to nullify this to begin with) but given the clear command hierarchy in place, it's not exactly too weird that they didn't do so.

it also doesn't fly with me that Poe had no option but to try and save his friends because they were dying given his kamikaze approach to taking out *one* ship at the start of the film either. there's every chance somebody of his character would still try and work out a suicide mission to save everybody even with full disclosure. in fact, it is very telling how little criticism he gets from rabid fanboys in comparison to 'Purple Hair' (lol i wonder why this pejorative term caught on!) in similar circumstances.

in fact, if anything, i think Poe's total turnaround at the end of the film actually seemed a bit too sudden given his previous behaviour!
