The US had its worst day so far on Thursday with nearly 3k deaths, and will hit 70k total on Monday. The scary thing is, the virus takes 17 days to kill on average, which means this latest (and largest) spike we've been seeing in the last few days are from people who were exposed to the virus around Easter time. And, unfortunately, that's around the time the weather started to warm up across the Midwest and people here started to relax their social distancing. So... might not be looking so hot nationally over the next couple weeks! As for B8, looks like COVID will take this rematch with around 75%, up from ~54% in the previous poll. And I can't say I disagree with that assessment. At the end of March, LightningStrikes argued that the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami (total death toll: 227,898) was a bigger deal internationally than 9/11. Mac Arrowny expressed disbelief that the impact of the coronavirus outbreak would ever reach that extent: Do you really think we'll get to 200,000 Corona deaths? We're currently at only 19,000, including 3000 in China, after four months. UPDATE - Only one month later, we've officially surpassed the tsunami's death total. 239,000 confirmed deaths 3,399,000 confirmed infections (To be fair to Mac, it now appears the numbers coming out of China were extremely questionable.) I wrote for Vs. Mode, which was like the knock off. I can't remember what the main one was. You see, this is exactly the kind of thing I was discussing with yo on the post-show a couple weeks ago. Think about all the crazy stuff we got up to as teens on this board- the Stats Topic and Oracle and x-stats just made sense given the circumstances. But I'm talking about having multiple competing, sprawling gaming-wide fanfictions, Mercs, UCA, 2000+ post Mafia games with extensive flavor storylines, huge Top 10s and Top 100s on every subject under the sun, and a wiki site to document all of the above. Compare that to someone who just turned 13 in 2019. Where are they going to be exposed to even a tenth of that creative output during their teen years? Sure, they're going to post instagram stories and youtube compilations, maybe they'll create a meme image or two. But where are they going to get writing practice, learn how to argue a point or express themselves over multiple paragraphs of text?
