He's right in that they're more entertainment tent poles than artistic films, but I think he goes a little too far when he dismisses them as theme park rides.

That term should be reserved for things where you turn off your brain and enjoy the spectacle. Like San Andreas, 2012, Godzilla, King Kong, the new Jurassic movies.

The MCU walks the line between pure popcorn and high art, and I think we should celebrate it for that, not bash it.

I'd say

S1 - great
S2 - greater
S3 - greatest
S4 - gas leak
S5 - very good
S6 - enjoyable

I'd put the first half up against any comedy to ever air (aside from prime Simpsons) but, for me, the back half didn't top the average season from Office or Parks & Rec or Seinfeld. (Granted I love all three shows so that isn't too big an insult.)

I will say, I thought McCaffrey would be a total bust when they were saying they'd run 80% of the offense through him his rookie season, or whatever. But he's been shockingly good!
