I can't believe people actually defended that shitty movie when it was released
For some reason, defending DC movies became a whole-ass personality trait to some people. Remember when some dumb fucks started a change.org petition to end Disney's manipulation of Rotten Tomatoes scores, despite Rotten Tomatoes being owned by the same corporation that owns DC?

At one point, people were seriously arguing that Batman V Superman was a better movie than Captain America: Civil War for no other reason but dumb fan shit. Like they're both hollow corporate products at the end of the day that you ascribe your own value to based on your subjective feelings about it, but it was just the stupidest nerd fight ever, because it was a nerd fight for the sake of having a nerd fight - because "DC vs Marvel" has to be a thing.

Comic book shills are the worst. I do think DC movies never hit a high bar until like Joker and Marvel movies have been decent to great for the greater part of 15 years, but that's not because I'm gargling Mickey Mouse's balls every day of my life. It's because movies like BvS, Suicide Squad and Justice League were a series of slaps to the face, while Marvel movies were watchable. Not all of them, but most of them.

For me, the answer is yes - I get the same chicken wrap from the same takeaway shop every workday, because my workplace orders from there exclusively and the chicken wrap is the best thing they have on the menu in regards to taste, size and nutrition.

For a while I was eating these Heinz chili beans for breakfast, but after a while I began to notice how sickly and sweet the sauce was. I need to find a mild, savory canned chili to eat for breakfast - how does Stagg Chili taste?

There are two types of white discomfort when race comes up.

One, being confronted by the negative life experiences of people who face unique angles of bigotry that people outside of the scope of that racism aren't familiar with, and feeling uncomfortable because their negative life experiences are unpleasant and you don't want the world to be so fucked up that they have to go through that.

Two, getting annoyed and fed up at what you perceive as other people putting their petty annoyances on a pedestal and putting them ahead of your own personal struggles that "everybody has", and endeavouring to shut down race discussions because you either think that the topic is exaggerated, inflammatory or simply not important.

The only one I've heard of is Atelier Ryza. Is this related to that?

Also, for some reason when I think of the series I think of thighs >_> not sure where the association comes from
The Atelier games tend to come in trilogies. The first set of modern Atelier games were the Arland trilogy, this game is set in the Dusk trilogy and there was also a gen 8 Mysterious trilogy which apparently didn't do so well. They stopped dubbing the games after the Dusk trilogy.

All I know is that they made another Arland game and I think another Mysterious game, and now they're making direct sequels to those games. Not sure if Ryza is an Arland game, though the subtitle should let you know.

If you think that's dated, try some of the PS2 era Atelier titles.
I wouldn't say that it's dated, just that it feels like a downgrade compared to the previous game.

For another example, Drawn to Life 2 is a big improvement over the first game on paper. More production value, more of an involved narrative, bigger stakes. But imo, it feels like total dogshit compared to the first game. Whatever made the first game special despite its flaws isn't present in the second game despite its advancements.

I wouldn't say that Escha/Logy is bad, certainly not to the degree I spoke shit about Drawn to Life 2. But like that game, it seems to regress in a lot of areas that made me like the previous game so much. I wouldn't call it "dated" moreso than I would call it a downgrade over the previous game - at least to the point of the game I've played, which isn't far.

I'll probably enjoy it on its own merits in the long run, but as it stands right now, it's no Ayesha.

Like I'm surprised by how clunky it feels and how much of a hit its UI and visual design seems to have taken.

I made a topic about Atelier Ayesha, the first installment of the trilogy this game is set in. It's a comfort game for me - I've played it four times now, I platinumed it a couple years ago and I just felt like returning to the story and setting recently. Some people told me that it was the best game in the trilogy - but seeing as Ayesha was the first installment in a trilogy, I wanted to continue with the series and see what's up.

And so far, Ayesha has proven to be a much more engaging product. Escha/Logy feels simplified to kind of a ridiculous degree, like the world map is pared down significantly and I don't like how they've changed the UI. The story could go either way, but so far I like the music and the dialogue less as well. The frame rate on Switch leaves a lot to be desired, presumably because this is a port of a Vita game, and I'm not exactly captured by the art direction yet, which I thought Ayesha handled well enough (generic in a lot of ways, but with enough unique polish that I could get past it and enjoy what flair it did bring to the table). Characters like Awin feel kinda overdesigned, and Colceit feels a bit too built up and cluttered for my liking - Ayesha had a cool, melancholy sparseness to it, and so far the art direction in this game feels very busy in comparison.

I'm in the first term of the game, so I could change my mind. I do think that systems-wise, this is a more engaging game so far - I like the square grid of optional tasks you can complete. Though combat is pretty tough at the moment, I also really like the changes to the combat system - it felt extremely secondary in Ayesha, and I think it's a bit more fleshed out and involved in Escha/Logy. I feel like I'll enjoy Ayesha more as a naturally progressing story experience, and I'll enjoy Escha/Logy more on the merits of its gameplay and replayability.

Ayesha was my first Atelier game, and Totori was my second Atelier game. Totori is like 4 years older than Ayesha, and it has dated aspects that make it a bit harder to get through than Ayesha. Escha/Logy feels more like Totori than Ayesha. It's weird, and I'm not a big fan at the moment.

We used to rebunch the cups if they drifted too far away, and each team had one reshuffle to make the other team arrange a shape. My go-to was a diamond, my old friends used to go with a triangle. Granted, I was dogshit at beer pong so I'd get my reshuffle in to sink at least one more before I lost.

Edit: oh you mean if it lands on an intersection. Yeah no idea, that's like flipping a coin and having it land on the rim.

Yeah - when I went through a shitty traumatic thing last year, I was initially pretty okay because I was convinced that I had been making it up and that I was on the verge of losing my mind. I was outright chipper once I was told the bad news, because I felt like at least I had a concrete answer and I hadn't just made a massive ass of myself for no reason. From there, I reasoned, I could build on that bad news as a base and bounce back with less outright baggage than other situations where I had been in a bad way.

I spent the next week in bed. I woke up the next morning, it sunk in, and I spent the entire next week in a room, getting up to eat and shower once a day, and then going back to bed until I fell asleep.

I think that's one way this could go - I think it's likely, even. For the next few days, try and arrange a safety net in the event of you spiralling. Do whatever you can do to get that safety net.

The other option is that whether you've realised or not, aspects of your relationship have been bothering you more and more, and amidst any sadness this breakup could impart there may be a bittersweet sort of release or freedom. But that's extremely personal conjecture about somebody I don't even remotely know, so don't take my word for it.

If nothing else, keep a safety net in mind. Get some friends, irl or online, who can help you weather the storm. Think of some places that you love to eat at, preferably who do delivery. And allow yourself to process how you feel - not how you think you should feel, but how you actually feel. Don't worry about being the bigger person, just focus on surviving whatever might come next. Even if you don't feel particularly bad now, I urge you - make a worst case scenario survival plan, think about a safety net to help you weather this, and if you end up needing it you'll know what you need to do. If you end up being okay? Excellent. If you don't end up being okay, you've got that safety net in mind.

I'm sorry about your breakup TC, and I hope that you're gonna be alright.

Doom was more technologically advanced. It had lighting, it had more fluid movement and animation, it had more dynamic damage and it had stairs and height differences that Wolfenstein could never dream.of accomplishing. The level design was a lot more freeform compared to Wolfenstein's blocky levels, and Doom also introduced Deathmatch for the first time ever.

Comparing Wolfenstein 3D and Doom is like comparing Marathon and Halo - the advancements in technology, and the escalation of outright quality that the team were able to add to the latter game with the resulting freedom, make that later product an iconic leap forward in the FPS genre that broke boundaries and steered the entire genre moreso than any prior work. It doesn't make the former product bad, it just means that for the time they were released in, both Doom and Halo fucked a lot harder than Wolfenstein or Marathon.

Will they blame video games next? Music is protected by the first amendment pretty sure, so they can't outlaw it.
And yet if the government begins legislating certain music genres as not being music, it'll be free game.

That's one potential outcome of Ben Shapiro's dumb-fuck "rap isn't music" argument. An elected official agrees and decides to argue an objective definition of music that excludes rap because of differences in how it sounds and is produced, and that is subsequently cracked down upon because as it isn't considered music by the government, it's not protected by the first amendment.

Another potential avenue is if they say that this music contains calls to action to commit violence, with harmful or fraudulent calls to action (i.e. yelling "fire" in a movie theatre when there's no fire) not being protected by the first amendment.

We live in a polarising time, and the right have had 30 years to update their language and their arguments to lobby for what they want in the cultural zeitgeist. I wouldn't chalk all of this up to pearl-clutching conservative parents worried about satanism in the pokeymans and the bad cussing words in the rap music.
