I do love some badass dudes! Cyan, Auron, Squall, and Cloud are all great. Also, I'd argue that most of my 1/10s aren't badasses. Laguna can't talk to a lady without his legs cramping. One of Cid's primary character traits is taking naps. Wakka (in my playthrough at least) never won a single Blitzball game.

Whether or not the girl is into it too is the dividing line between flirting and being a creep, yes. Zidane certainly has plenty of creep moments, though.

Edge being a creep is the most tangible awful thing from him that I can point to in order to justify my hatred, but the real reason I dislike him is that he's lame. He brought down every single scene that he was in. Same goes for Laguna I guess. I respectfully retract my original complaint (where I lumped him together with Jecht and Shadow) and instead send him to live with Edge in Lamesville.

In any case, Zidane is a good character. Not perfect by any means, but good. I forgive a lot of his earlier creepiness because (IX spoilers) that ending cutscene where Dagger pushes through the crowd to embrace him is so cute.

The next async will begin this Saturday October 21st, so get your yamls in this week if you're interested! I'm going to do my usual HK, but I might also try a Stardew Valley as long as people are willing to be patient with me figuring it out.

I've been watching a video series on the translation of FFVII (the "Let's Mosey" one from Kotaku), which has been pretty interesting. In Japanese, I guess her name is Earisu or Aerisu, so in English I suppose it could've gone either way. I definitely prefer the sound of Aeris, but I'll have to try to get used to Aerith.

I'm glad you both enjoyed the topic! Aeris really is great... though, I should probably start getting used to calling her Aerith since that'll be her name in the voice-acted Remake

The way Tama talks annoyed me at first but over time it became endearing.

Parts of it are for sure, but theres a solid overall plot in there too. I specifically remember one moment that I really loved. Reynn isn't in my top fifteen FF characters for nothing! And Tama was a close second

That would be a fitting present! My nephew is only seven, so only recently old enough for real Lego, but I've been buying him Minecraft sets for years (another game we play). The way I see it, as long as he's above the age where they're a choking hazard, there's no such thing as too much Lego. If nothing else, he'll appreciate the extra pieces someday

Cool, thanks. Unless they don't go on sale for some reason, I'll probably do a joint CC/7R playthrough topic around late November. I'm actually really excited to get to it! If 7R is as good as people say, XIII and Lightning might finally have some competition at the top of my rankings.

I'm going to get at least one of these for my nephew because we've played a lot of Animal Crossing online together ever since he was little. Hopefully he'll be happy with that Isabella one. I think it looks the best out of all of them, personally, and it's not super expensive

So just to confirm, if they both go on sale at the same time, would it be best to play Crisis Core before Remake?

I always thought this episode was overrated. The captain guy's real life was too over-the-top pathetic, and the "happy" ending always struck me as contrived.

They changed Edgar's line towards Relm in more recent translations. I think that's a good sign that it was too creepy for modern sensibilities

Is WoFF that good?!

I haven't played it since it came out, but I really enjoyed the whole gameplay element of stacking monsters to create party members. Made each combination feel unique, and exploration to find new monsters was rewarding. Lann, Reynn, and Tama were all great. Plus the constant stream of FF fanservice was always fun. It was like, omg is that Eiko? I know Eiko! WoFF definitely wasn't a 10/10 game, but I liked it a lot.

I always liked the Hope/Lightning dynamic. She mostly seemed like an impatient hardass early on, but she's also a big sister who can protect and guide. Hope initially seems useless and whiny, but he can be a lot more capable than he seems. Once their emotions have settled a bit, they do a good job in bringing those aspects of each other out.

Light had the worst birthday ever when Snow and Serah announced their engagement to her, and that immediately makes me think that Serah's eventual AITA post would get a YTA judgment. It's Light's birthday, it's her special occasion, don't make it yours too and take that from her.

As someone who often browses AITA to kill time at work, this made me lol

I definitely don't want to do any chocobo breeding. From what little I looked into it, it sounds really tedious. I found an isolated shack on the far north of the world map, but I backed right out of there the instant I realized he was just a chocobo expert.

Oh, then I did. I thought she was just embarrassed the others might've seen her leaning against Cloud (because Tifa is so shy. Aeris would've probably been high-fiving everyone if she was caught in a similar position). I don't know how I feel about Cid, Red, and Barret spying on anything more than cuddling...

Thanks for the info about places to explore and items to get, everyone. I don't want to spend a bunch of time grinding to kill any optional superbosses, but I'll at least attempt a battle against the Ultimate Weapon. It also only just clicked for me that there's more than one Weapon. I thought it was all the same one swimming around underwater and popping up to cause problems.

I definitely didn't get an "implied sex scene" vibe or anything, so yeah I must not have gotten the best version. The closest they got was Tifa sleeping while leaning against him. I'll have to see if I can find a video of other versions. I'm not expecting a full blown Mass Effect sex scene or anything, but something more intimate between them would be cute to see. Maybe they'll even kiss!!!

Oh, I didn't put it in my writeup but I did wander through there. When I arrived, Cait Sith sprinted out of the building's front door saying "don't go this way!", so I went the only other direction available to me and took the stairs. The loooong stairs. At least there were no random encounters there because, yeesh. Once I finally got to the top, I realized my error and took the elevator down. I did remember to grab the chests in the item shop, but I guess I missed Cait Sith's weapon. I don't care though. I don't want a good weapon for someone who trolled me into taking the stairs!

Tifa is good too! I'm glad there's a version of the scene where her and Cloud get together, because I really like their relationship. She's not as good as Yuffie, but being as good as Yuffie isn't easy. Talking to Tifa on the airship after plot events is great, but talking to Yuffie is amazing. I'm always so excited to run out of the room to see the latest development in the saga of her hilarious motion sickness.

I ordered the update poorly. I went to the Arena between finding the sunken plane and going to the rocket town. Finding that awesome sword and Double Cut made the arena seem beatable! And I think I found everything in the airplane. Double Cut felt like the most hidden thing there because it was kind of hidden from view by a chest on the second level.

As for all the discussion about spinoffs, I'd have no problem playing the other games, especially now that I'm into the characters and the story. My problem is, the games would need to be available on Steam (or the Switch I guess) and on sale for a good price. Remake Intergrade is like $100 right now, but SteamDB's price history says it has been 50% off pretty regularly. I'll have to wait years for part two to hit PC anyway, not to mention untold years for part three to even come out, so I'm in no rush.

I'll watch Advent Children because it's easy to get. Remake and the other spinoffs will have to wait, unfortunately. I guess I could try and find a no-commentary lets play of Dirge of Cerberus or something since I don't think it'll ever be available to me anywhere, but I doubt that sort of "playthrough" would be interesting to anyone following along here
