It's smart of them tho. TWICE is the beast in the east that is barely getting it's feet wet in the west and BP's sound is a lot easier for westerners to digest. If it means it'll open up more casuals to Kpop then all the more power to them.

You know. 10 years when I first got into kpop, and it was gaining more international popularity, I hoped that they don't start making kpop that isn't for koreans, but instead for international listeners because that would kill what I think makes korean pop music unique in a sense

And for 10 years I've never felt like a group has done that. Sure you'll have english versions of songs but I never got the vibe that this wasn't for korea

Except now. Blackpink has become this group for me and I just can't get into their music anymore.

with blackpink, its kinda hard to not think that YG is just using them for their star appeal, using them in commricials, modeling, promotions for other things, and then just pumping out a song every once in a while to keep them relevant. whether or not thats true, Teddy has just become lazy because hey, it works and it prints money.

Im clearly being hyperbolic calling it Kids Bop, but JYP pitched the song up way too much, as they do with all Twice songs, to make them sound younger/cuter (despite this being their "more mature" era) and it takes away from the song and no one has the grit in their voice to really make the verses pop. I also find Twice's chorus more grating and repetitive. Plus Im already not a fan of throwing in token rap sections to give the bad vocalists something to do in Kpop and the song is better without it.

Its not even just the lyrics/translation thing, it just sounds much better with Zara singing it. Hearing this made me realize the song is actually not bad its just that Twice's version sounds like a Kids Bop cover compared to this >_> Also no tacked on rap part to give Dahyun/Chaeyoung something to do. But then again I havent fully enjoyed a Twice title track since DTNA
