I'm not sure if Marisa is the kind of person who would look at DEATH, be told it was DEATH, and say "... yeah you got no power over me".

touhou games feature plenty of conceptual and weird enemies, pretty sure there's at least one manifestation of death in there. and even if not, definitely things on a similar conceptual range. she has definitely gone directly into the underworld, the netherworld, the land of the dead... I'm pretty sure not all of these were even the same place. she's just had a reason to visit multiple similar types of places and was never deterred by any shinigami or other types of spirits. Marisa's dialogue is pretty much always flippant and sarcastic when approaching bosses. so I highly doubt she'd be intimidated by the opponent in this case. she'd probably just act like death is not big deal and be like 'oh great so now I have to defeat this guy if I want to advance.'

not saying this would give her the win on its own, per se, I know nothing of discworld, but there's no way she'd lose over something as minor as this. touhou protagonists are repeatedly shown to go up against conceptual and metaphyisical beings with time and physics (maybe even reality) warping powers, and virtually never are scared or worried about the power level or power sets of their opponents.

edit: to summarize, in case I'm being unclear, she is DEFINITELY the type of person who would believe that someone calling themselves the 'manifestation of death' really has no power over her... and has defeated opponents who make similar boasts (even if true!) in the past.

My least favorite part of it is that it spends the bulk of it building up Gohan as the only one who can stand a chance of beating Buu only to throw him under the bus. It wouldve been a great character moment for him if he recalled how his cockiness in the past nearly got the Earth destroyed so he made things right by not toying with Buu, but I guess it wasnt meant to be.

that is pretty sad, yeah. I don't love Gohan as a character, but I wonder how much of that is -because- he was thrown under the bus like this?

yeah I hated all of the stuff with gotenks so I can't really argue against this either. it was just so silly, but not in a good way. it was like he wanted to recapture the magic of goku being overpowered in early dragonball as a child, but the level of power scaling has gone through the roof at this point. even putting aside the idea that gotenks was meant as a precursor to show us how much of a power boost can be gained through fusion... it just, doesn't work. because fundamentally, goten and trunks should NOT have been as strong as they were.

like, it diminishes so much of the narrative that these kids were basically born already able to go super saiyan. what even is a "super" saiyan anymore at this point?

I think the android saga was the peak of what he was actually able to accomplish from a story-telling perspective so with this he just said "fuck it" and threw every cool idea he'd ever had onto the page with little regard for how to make it make sense as a story

like Brohan said, it was a mess, but there were a lot of REALLY cool moments in there. Vegeta's Pride. Vegeta's Sacrifice. SSJ3. Gotenks. Mystic Gohan. Vegito.

the last few tournaments in dragonball are all fantastic, and the saiyan saga just raises the stakes and everything gets even better. namek continues to be awesome and culminates in the battle against freiza which is also done super well.

I don't know if I'd call the android saga the peak, but I do agree it was done really well (and I'm actually MORE into the android saga lately than I used to be). but it really was just another great arc near the end of a long stretch of fantastic arcs. I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying at least, and it's crazy to watch how the show diminishes in quality so rapidly after all of this.

the vegeta stuff is pretty good. the issue is how it's buried under all of the other crap.

a literal dragonball topic in 2020

saddest thing about the buu saga

everyone shows up for this tournament and it's actually been a while since we had a serious one. like not at any point in all of dragonball Z did a real tournament take place. and don't say the cell games. the cell games was not a tournament. it was a narrative excuse for cell to have a 1 v 1 battle with the strong opponents he hadn't actually fought yet, instead of having all of the characters gang up on him like they should have done.

the shifting and balance of power is not yet well established and as readers, and for the characters in the story, we really don't know what could happen.

piccolo has gained power, vegeta has gained power, gohan has regressed. these are three of the previously strongest characters. with goku returning from the dead to participate in one last budokai everyone is highly motivated to give it their all and compete on the world stage for the first time in countless arcs -- we have the potential for some great matches and potential toss up victories.

oh yeah. nevermind. let's not do the tournament. let's completely sideline it for a plot about a sentient piece of gum.

aside from toriyama being on crack, what are your least favorite things about the buu saga?

I have a grasp of both of their abilities and their overall levels of power. it's true that we don't know exactly what persona that Joker will have equipped, but let's face it... if you're going into battle against an unknown enemy, you are NOT bringing a specific wind immunity set up. he'd probably bring something that is more general and more likely to apply in any given situation, since he doesn't know what he is walking into.

that's not going to be enough to make up for the gap in power, in my view.

okay I haven't played persona 5 specifically but based on my understanding of the series, wouldn't he need to go back to the 'velvet room' or something similar to change his persona set up? it doesn't seem like he'd be able to do that in the middle of a battle since you can't do that in the middle of battles.

personally I think cheating in sports is awesome. it adds a new dynamic of play beyond just athleticism and strategy. it's sort of like an extra layer of meta strategy -- finding ways to get any extra edge that you can get in a game that is all about statistics, while competing against the refs or umpires whose job it is to "catch" you.

though to be honest it becomes a lot less fun when the cheating becomes sanctioned by the league and they have an interest in protecting certain teams. it's much better when the umpires or refs serve as a third neutral faction that both teams have to try and work around.

nami is good stuff. to follow up on handsomedude's earlier question (which I read wrong), I'm pretty sure Nami is one of the characters who would get a 10/10 in her non-canon score. she has a ton of fan art ranging from soft core to hardcore, to full doujins, flash games, animations. and a lot of it is very quality stuff.

I've always liked bulma, too.

I just looked it up a short while ago. I think I may have seen this before (I quickly read 1, 2, and 2.5), it seems familiar. Also looked at the authors other work. The Manya/Minnea doujin is more my speed. Overall these works are not great but it's not bad either.

Also I wouldn't say I dislike vanilla, it's just harder for something vanilla to stand out. and easier for me to instantly drop it or not even bother looking if it has tags that I know I'm not into. example, anal. generally I'll skip right over any search results that have anal in the tag if they look like they're boring/vanilla. it's not worth skimming through anal scenes just to get to like 2 pages of maybe good but pretty standard/boring content.

can't speak for anyone else, but I used FireFox for YEARS. It was pretty good, but the issue is that every 1-2 years it would have this issue where my browser would get corrupted and I had to reinstall a fresh file to get it to open. transferring my old bookmarks over to the fresh install was either a pain in the ass, or I just lost them all and had to rebuild my bookmarks library again.

at a certain point I got tired of doing this and installed Chrome instead. haven't encountered the same issue even one time since I've been using chrome.

Also have to correct myself, I actually forgot to put yoruichi on my last list, which is pretty funny but understandable. There's so many characters that it's hard to remember them all, and I rarely spend more than a few minutes thinking about rankings or lists before I write them out.

Looking at the list now, she'd probably fighting with Samus for 5th place.

Her canon appearance is not really that great. It's good, it's fine. But yeah.
Dragon Quest III is among my favorite games of all time,
And this is probably true for a lot of hentai artists as well.
Where the Sage really shines is in her hentai representation.
DQ, and DQ III in particular, has a ton of hentai.
People took her basic design and updated it for modern porn-obsessed audiences
And the rest was history
I've seen lots of good materials of her and without even specifically looking.
Though I will say that if she has one weakness, it's how much of the dq iii is actually just cross over or reference materials

But since Sage herself has NO personality, I guess any reference to her costume design is a point in her favor?

Well, on my list, that's enough for a 7/10 in concept!
Her canon appearance is also pretty good but not amazing due to Pokemon's style.
Her original art is fairly washed out and generic looking,
But it does have some core elements that make her broadly appeal.
This is probably the reason why she has good hentai.
Pokemon characters can get a lot of fan art, and a lot of good stuff - Delia is no exception.
She's got plenty of quality non canon materials.
Enough to score some solid bonus points and climb high onto the list.
The pictures I used for this topic were among the FIRST results that came up.
So just imagine what you can find if you dig deeper.

Yoruichi has basically everything going for her that is needed to score high on this list.
I don't think Bleach has amazing writing or characters, BUT
I am familiar enough with the series that it gives her an edge.
I have a good grasp on her personality and I do find it to be fairly hot
She's a bit of a tease while not losing her status as a mature, competent character
She can seriously do beautiful, sexy, badass, or mature as needed
And this is because her personality is capable of carrying any of those types of interactions

Finding more than one picture of the dark elf queen that I could post without getting instantly nuked by Allen was not easy

Her concept is pretty good. She benefits from the same stuff as Asagi and other porn characters,
The entire idea of her story and "development" are hilarious and ridiculous.
Unlike Asagi I find her personality actually a bit more appealing depending on the situation.

Her canon appearance is great. One of the all time best and just shy of being a top tier design.

As with many other hentai characters, she doesn't benefit much from non-canon appearances.
Her base material is already pornographic,
And this means that a lot of fan artists just don't bother to do anything with her.
Solely being a hot dark elf is enough to hard carry her into the top 5.
She'd have a good shot at top 10 even if a lot more characters were nominated

She's basically just an okay, 'balanced' waifu.

She has some non-canon materials but it's nothing amazing.
Not enough to get tons of bonus points, but better than some others.
Now if Ryuuko had been nominated? That would be a different story...

There's probably something really obvious I'm forgetting, but I feel confident about the top two. Only thing I'm not sure of is whether EO 5 or Nexus is better, but I gave the edge to 5 for trying to be unique and making me feel nostalgic for EO1 in a totally new setting, where Nexus was more of like... trying to force nostalgia by including stuff from all previous games, but missing a few of the things that I would have really wanted (and putting more emphasis on 3-4 than I would have liked)

There might be a series that I like overall more than Phantasy Star, but nothing else came to mind after thinking about it "really hard" for 45 seconds.

I'm struggling with her concept because, well...
On one hand it's fucking hilarious.
The fact that these top level elite anti demon ninja go out there and then immediately lose in every single Taimanin game never gets old.
On the other hand, nothing about her personality is something I'd actually want to date.
Her canon appearance is pretty great. Not as good as any of the best, but pretty solid.
I think she's a good example of how anime can create exaggerated "ideal" body types that couldn't exist in reality.
Problem is that she does have some non-canon appearance, but they don't add anything to her existing material
Since she already comes from a porn game anyway.

Second, she is an OLD ass lady. Like, over 100. That's a bit beyond just mature.
She does get a bonus point for walking with a limp and a cane, since I find that adorable.
Her appearance is better than the likes of Fiona and Ashley just for being more mature looking.
I know nothing about her non-canon materials.

this topic inspired me to re-read my lion king 2019 review that I wrote last year. there are some real gems in here.

"By the way, how do the people who work at Disney NOT know that the songs are the best parts about the movies? How the fuck could they not know? Why would they think that cutting or shortening songs would be the right decisions to make?"

"When a character witnesses something emotional, such as the death of a family member, or reuniting with a long lost friend, each of these two movies shows a completely different visual indicator of what is going on. In the cartoon, the character's eyes might widen slightly, their mouth might change a bit, maybe into something more like a frown, they'll move their head in a way that signals their emotional state. In the live action movie the most I ever saw was a character's ear twitching or them moving their head a bit. They all have these tiny, round, very true-to-life animal eyes that basically stare unblinking and show no reaction to what is going on."
