The deathsinger is basically just your standard undead lich. Not my favorite monster or even undead design, but he's fairly cool. The statue of liberty inspired splash art actually looks pretty awesome. All in all a solid midcarder.

Kassadin


Another somewhat cool monster character. I think his helmet looks a bit corny but his pre-void skin also looks really generic so there's really no winning... until you see his cosmic reaver skin which looks legitimately badass as hell. I feel like I've praised more than a few of the cosmic skins by this point so it's clear whoever did that set is a master far above the level of the standard league character design team.

Katarina


A human assassin who throws knives. Enough said. She's kinda cute, I guess. Not really my type. Although having a scar on her face gives her lots of bonus points so I guess she'll still rank decently against the very whatever-generic characters.

Kayle


Looks to be some kind of paladin that is actually an ascended angel or demigod or something. Interesting choice to have a female character who wears a mask that covers her face but I'm sure they have various skins and other reasons for her to remove the helmet. That reason? It's called fanservice.

Overall cool. An evil, monster, demonic race would be better than an angelic one but at least she's above the level of puny humans. Sadly she's named after a vegetable that hipsters eat. Not sure how that'll affect her overall ranking...

The shadow reaper. Darkin scythe. Shadow step. Literally a halfbreed between human and some darkin race. THE WEAK FEAR THE SHADOWS.

Man why was nobody making fun of how edgy this guy is before right now. The fact that his name is so similar to the last entry is very offputting in a subtle way but aside from that I think he's kinda hilarious. The idea that some people out there think Kayn is actually cool cracks me up -- the fact that some of them are likely adults is... I don't even know how to process that.

Also someone was paid to design this character when I'm pretty sure they just stole all of his design notes from a middle schoolers notebook. I'll stick him right near the guy who looks like a ripoff of V for Vendetta.

For some reason the wiki has her listed as TBA The Spear of Vengeance which I found pretty funny. Apparently they forgot to update the wiki after they learned her name. As a blue skinned undead lady she's probably gonna rank fairly well. Also, spears are cool.

That being said her body is kinda gangly and weird. Plus, being a specter, I'm guessing she basically weighs nothing and has no real body aside from her gear that she makes float around. I mean I've heard of having no meat on your bones, but she literally has no meat or bones.

Still a better waifu than a pathetic normal human. In fan arts like the one I posted she actually looks pretty good, too.

TBA The Enlightened One. Okay at this point either something is wrong with the wiki as a whole or something is wrong with my browser. I should probably look into that. Karma is apparently a boring human but at least she's reincarnated or something. That's at least somewhat interesting. Honestly despite being just a regular human she's definitely one of the better, if not the best looking one I've seen so far.

Not that looks are the only metric by which I am ranking and... oh who are we kidding, that's like 90% of it. The other 10% is THE VOID. I'm surprised to say that, honestly, my opinion of her went down after looking at her skins. Most of them are pretty low quality and detract from the simplicity of her base, really good design. The only one that lives up to the hype I had after seeing her portrait on the wiki is the Sun Goddess Karma one, which is admittedly great.

I had to put some extra thought into whether she ranks above Caitlyn or even Aatrox, but once I skimmed through some of her fan arts and stuff on google search I did start to feel like she is solidly above Caitlyn at least. New best normal human reigning champ!

(It's sad when fan artists on deviantart can capture what makes your character cool and appealing more than the official game designers and animator but oh well)

someone took midrange hunter to high legend last month (like top 10) I think. I forget who it was.

using the janky ass RNG based control cards that blizzard has forced upon hunter is not midrange. it's just some weird control which actually kinda sucks because despite cards like rexxar being very high power level they are wasted on hunter.

I concede it might be good after rotation but I think you guys are clinically insane if you honestly believe drawing three beasts in aggro or midrange is going to do anything against a wall of taunts and more armor than you can possibly chip down... when the quality of each beast is going to be lower than the card quality of the control deck you're facing.

looks mildly useful but:

1. lategame hunter combo decks can't really use it because they play a bunch of non beasts, and 3 mana to draw 1 is bad. much worse than anything else they could be doing.

2. aggro/midrange hunter decks generally cannot win games unless they close them out very quickly, due to the fact that control decks are so oppressively overtuned and have been for almost two full years now. this is a card for refill, but if you reach the stage in the game where you need refill then you have already lost. drawing 3 beasts is not going to do jack shit when your opponent just gained 80 armor and has 5 different taunts to drop in front of them.

and this is how we play around crushing walls.

turns out having two hench clan thugs, two fungalmancers, two deranged doctors in a class that desperately needs healing, and a lab recruiter to shuffle them back into your deck is

'pretty good.'

this hunter played hard removal every single turn from 2 to 5 (including poisonous minions), and literally had a turn where he played 'give your minions deathrattle: add a random mech to your hand' while he had like four things on board (hence why his hand is full of cards here)

and I still won, although it was definitely more close than this image suggests; he actually cleared this board with two of those 5/1 rush ragers, and something that did 2 damage to my taunt, I forget... but yeah, this wasn't the end of the game. I feel like one misplay in either direction could have really derailed the entire match -- pretty much the perfect game of hearthstone.

assuming 1 and 2 are out:

3 is probably still my overall favorite dragon quest game, but it may be too NES for your tastes if you didn't like 1. maybe not. honestly, the dragon quest games don't really receive much in the way of major improvements so it might be that you just wouldn't like the series... period. uh, get the SNES version if you can, although I think the GBC version is pretty good too.

4 is very good and worth playing, and you can play it on DS so it will feel more modern.

5 is very good and worth playing. I personally prefer 4 over 5 but there are plenty who would argue the opposite.

6 is less good than 4 or 5, but I can't quite put my finger on what I like less about it. it's definitely designed and presented in the same vein. I just think the story and characters are all weaker, but that is subjective, so your mileage may vary.

7 I have never been able to get into. the beginning is super slow and I've heard it's a very long game, too.

8 was good enough for me to play all the way through even though I don't like modern games all that much. the fact that I consider a PS2 game to be modern should give you roughly an idea of the garbage systems that I still play regularly. anyway, uh, I think this one is fine. a lot of people liked it when it was new but I barely see it discussed anymore as a top game or anything.

9 is pretty cool, actually. it feels like they didn't want to make a port/remake of 3 so they just made 9 instead. it has a lot of stuff in common with 3 but it really is its own unique game. all that being said it lacks the simplicity and charm of 3. I was pretty enamored with it when I first played it but I couldn't even get through the whole game because it feels like it's trying so hard to be more than what it is. 3 works because it's simple. 9 keeps the same idea of having a simple party full of silent protagonists, with full customization, but it slows everything down and tries to make you care more about the story despite your characters having no stake in it.

Apparently she's the daughter of the void who shoots void bolts and blasts at enemies. See, how much harder is that to come up with the tiniest bit of flavor instead of just calling them "energy projectiles"???

The core of her design is awesome with the fixtures on her back. I also like the cool markings on her face, they give her a more nonhuman appearance despite seeming to just be a regular human. It was actually pretty tough to tell so I even went and checked her biography. It says that she is human but she was altered by THE VOID. Whatever that is!

Then I did some more investigating and it sounds like these void powers are sort of like fused to her body or they are a part of her now. So in a way she's not fully human anymore. Good enough for me! Under her biography there are tabs of like, I don't know, maybe it's supposed to be concept art. But one of them shows her in her Void form but with some of her human bits still exposed, I think that's my favorite of her designs. Not sure if she can walk around like that in game but it doesn't match any of the skins.



Skins... She only has a few. The K/DA is nothing special really. Especially for a music video that was all about presentation and style she almost feels like the most boring out of the four. The Bullet Angel one looks god damn amazing. Possibly one of my favorite skins in the topic so far, and we're almost up to 50 characters ranked at this point!

He seems to know about being COOL and DRAMATIC. I almost forgot about characters hiding their face until I started looking at way too many League of Legends character designs. Seems like I should like him a bit more, and I'm still not sure where his final placement will end up being, but there's just something about Jhin that I can't put my finger on... he just feels like he doesn't inspire that much emotion out of me.

Maybe it's because, at the end of the day, he takes off his cool monster mask and he's just a NORMAL DUDE. Fan artists seem to think he's really bishounen, though.

Jinx


Ah, here we go. Jinx is another character I'm actually familiar with, and that's probably not a surprise to anyone in particular. I remember reading this on some random comment chain in the past, which is obviously a great source of information, that they were pushing Jinx pretty hard around the time she was released. I have heard the Get Jinxed song but it was from a cover artist on youtube that I watch somewhat frequently. Imagine my surprise and shock when the actual Jinx seems to have a voice that sounds nothing like what I'm familiar with.

I like how she's incredibly super pale compared to almost anyone else, characters with weird or unnatural skin colors are always interesting and visually appealing... that being said, it still feels like she just has a normal skin tone, and it'd be better if she was actually more like sylvanas or widowmaker or something if they were going to go that route.

Her personality is pretty noteworthy and she seems to convey a lot of style and character in a very efficient way. All that being said there's nothing special about Jinx that I really like aside from maybe the fact that she has really creepy red eyes. Also does anyone else get the impression that they were trying really hard to make her The Joker of riot games?

Final Placement: Ehh... She's very scrawny, and I don't really tend to like skinny/small characters that much. She has tattoos all over like half of her body, and I'm not really a huge fan of tattoos either. Her personality and style are actually fairly cool and unique and that gets her a lot of points, but there are multiple ways in which she doesn't really feel like a character that could make my own personal top tier(s)

Also I keep doing this thing where I put characters directly below Camille because that feels like a pretty clear dividing line where I start to like characters more, so I'm gonna add a line there and maybe rearrange the size of each tier -- keeping all placements the same and just changing the benchmarks so you have to beat Camille to get into the cool cyborg or cooler tier.

I'd also like to nominate my own OC, Dorito Man

Brief Summary: Dorito Man is a 32 year old virgin who gains immense power after eating his favorite snack, doritos. While he is normally unhealthy, slightly overweight, and not very impressive, he goes into EXTREME GAMER MODE after consuming at least a handful of doritos.

While in Gamer Mode he can get perfect headshots on targets, although his "guns" are just his biceps, but he shoots projectiles made out of pure EXTREME GAMER ENERGY by flexing. Headshots instantly kill any target and prevent them from using any revival abilities by banishing their soul to the shadow realm.

Dorito Man is an exceptional, TRUE GAMER, and looks down upon anyone who he thinks is not a real gamer. If you think playing mobile games makes you a gamer then he will find you and flex on you so hard. He also has the power to fire tranquilizers from his butt, can shoot paralysis beams from his eyes, and his elite navy seal training for tying knots around peoples hands that they could never escape from.

His only weakness is day 1 DLC which he will spend 36 straight ours shitposting about on reddit before pre-ordering the game because he can't resist anyway.

yeah that's true as a whole I suppose. honestly though to this guy's credit he wasn't making any misplays or anything either. I was beating him most of the game but it wasn't because he messed up or anything, I just happened to make a few good plays and stay ahead for a while. if anything the fact that I didn't pressure him faster while I was ahead on board could be called a misplay (assuming I had reason to suspect he'd be dropping atom bomb legendaries on me after playing multiple board clears).

in the end I didn't mark that as a 'bullshit' game. we both played well, his deck was better. it's dumb that we were both sitting at 2-2 when my deck sucked and his was strong. but if anything I just feel bad for the circumstances and for both of us. however this guy ended up at 2-2 himself was probably not a very enjoyable experience and likely involved a lot of MC Techs and other nonsense cards going off.

my 0-0 opponent played my most hated card of all time, and then got a 1 in 4 MC Tech to buff all of his scarabs with my stormwind champion, so that was fun.

I had a feeling this run wasn't gonna go too well, really bad deck I drafted. overall my opponents have been making a lot of misplays this run, and it feels good to punish them, but there's just been a LOT of RNG undercutting it. up to this point there was barely any matches I felt like were bullshit... but in this run alone, I'd say 3 out of 4 have already featured a huge amount of bullshit (I'm now at 2-2)

so yeah big picture arena is still pretty good overall right now, but this run has been the stars aligning to be as annoying as possible

okay queuing up at 5 AM on thanksgiving morning was not the best idea I've ever had. now that was my longest wait time, BY FAR, I've experienced in hearthstone. almost 3 full minutes to get into an arena match against a warrior who I outplayed every single god damn turn.

ending with a truesilver champion lethal to the face because I held onto it due to wanting to squeeze full value out of my previous weapon, even when the situation looked dire. really satisfying, really rewarding game of hearthstone there. and I'm now at 8-2 with the WORST CLASS IN ARENA.

I'm sitting at 7-2 right now with paladin and almost afraid to keep going. my opponent got spiritsinger umbra from pinata, and then got rin from playing a second pinata, which umbra then triggered, after playing the elemental which deals 3 damage to a random enemy minion, which they got from the dumb mage spell that adds 2 random minions to your hand.

getting the seal instantly was basically a nonfactor but that 3 damage helped them stabilize on the board, and rin came down as a taunt a few turns later when they desperately needed a taunt to stay in the game (I was so ahead before that it took all of this RNG nonsense combined to flip the game)

like what else can possibly happen after that. I don't know, and I don't want to know.

but I do feel pretty good about getting to (at least) 7 wins with the worst arena class!
