I believe the character was supposed to be transgender but 90s so instead they get treated as a gay crossdresser. Both he and she gets used for the character by people who would know so *shrug*

For the record Oda made the character and said they are part of the inspiration for including the Okama characters in One Piece who are definitely transgender.

Its interesting that in Brian's case they can also use a close variation on his WWE theme if they want to go the super recognizable route. Since his theme was just a remix of Flight of the Valkyries.

The problem is I support more non 7 characters than 7 characters so I dont want all those ships to rise.

And I think a lot of people who save 7 characters are in the same boat.

What I'm wondering is, has this kind of thing ever happened in a judged event? Someone completely unexpected managing to earn gold, I mean. Like, a part of me wonders if the human judge element would allow for that sort of thing, or if subconscious biases & expectations would be too strong or something like that

I mean its not on that same level but I know Gabby Douglas definitely wasn't expected to win all-around gold in Womens gymnastics in 2012.

She had never won a single individual gold medal in a world level competition prior to that olympics. And I dont think she had any all-around medals in a non-junior level competition.

Japan may pull the plug and cancel the whole thing at the last minute.

Japan cant afford to cancel. They would have to pay the IOC so much it would bankrupt the country.

Only the IOC can realistically cancel it.

There are only like 2 or 3 people doing YRP right now so I wouldnt call them favorites by any means. Hopefully that will pick up as we go. I will be happy to be underestimating their chances.

That said I wouldnt worry about Rikku's exit last year. YRP had been in discussion for 2 contests so it was known that Rikku just needed to get through boots and she would get a push the next contest so people didnt prioritize her after boots. I know she plummeted down my priority list after boots.

Oh yes. It's so much more devastating in the original because you have spent multiple episodes seeing the brothers bond with Mina.

That reveal horrified me when I first watched it. Totally understand skipping it during rewatches. I'd probably skip the whole little arc.

Not overall, just a better version of the shared arcs. Since Brotherhood condenses and rushes through stuff to get to the new plot.

I've definitely heard people suggest starting with FMA and then switching to brotherhood whenever someone asks what they should watch, so I know I'm not alone in that.
