if you are already killing it by doing everything in your OP, the limited amount you can put into an HSA for tax benefits from investing is trivial tbh. imo it's worth the peace of mind to have the best insurance possible, just in case.

no real need for an HSA tbh unless you know your risk profile for healthcare needs, sounds like you will figure that out! personally I always go for the best plan offered and just invest the HSA money into crypto or savings account tbh

Well I think of expenditure now with taxes factored in...like I'll compared my post tax low deductible costs + post tax out of pocket expenses for medications with pre tax HSA high deductible + pre tax HSA money going towards medication expenses, with hsa growth factored in. That may changes things significantly.

The way I see if it anything is tax advantaged or tax deductible, you're essentially getting 40%-45% off.

And the HSA I think has a higher contribution limit compared to an IRA, so it's essentially a second, better IRA.

typically you need to accept higher premiums/deductibles in order to get an HSA, so if you have frequent medical needs or want to avoid high deductibles then you'd not get an HSA. the HSA is usually an extra to justify taking on a riskier plan, but tbh if you are relatively healthy it could make sense to just go with the HSA

Yea this is the only problem with this. I have a PPO right now with high premiums, low deductible. We will have gone through 2 newborn deliveries, several medications, regular OB visits...so I'll add up all those costs and try to backtrack and see if a high deductible plan + HSA tax savings would've been better.

Everything else sounds super and way to go. Wish I wouldve started maxing out my HSA much sooner than I have.

Yea real state is the long term goal, once I'm comfortable with my income/savings after all those retirement contributions, my plan is to switch to real estate. The problem is that I'm in california so real estate is expensive af. I can look in central valley and more remote parts of california. I also have some connections to nevada and know the area. I don't think I'd go further than that. Thats many years down the line.

As I read more about the HSA, I don't see any downsides. Worst case scenario is works exactly like an IRA. I would assume maybe the investment options are less?

It baffles me how some people are unable to comprehend why people who are well off would want to manage their finances intelligently. Its like they think anyone who has more money than them has endless cash and doesn't ever need to do anything with their money.

Its all a big game.

Taxes, investing, finances...its literally all a game that the government has made, where they set the rules. They make the rules intentionally confusing so that some people give up and lose the game, some people try but suck at it, and others do well. All this stuff can be simplified if they really wanted to but not everyone can win or else no one wins.

This "game" has brought out my competitive side, so I'm very much enjoying reading and studying this stuff now.

I know alot of people who are lower socioeconomic class. They are basically stuck there because they don't have the drive to get out. I'm talking about my own family and friends whom I know well. They find low to medium paying jobs, settle down, but don't really do anything else beyond that to keep moving up the ladder. They end up saving some but most of their spare change gets spent. They make excuses for everything and find every reason other than themselves to blame their situation on. I get that the system is built in a way that makes it tough, but that doesn't mean you don't at least partially share the blame.

I'm not sure how your college experiences went but for most of us we still had expenses we needed to cover to survive. Without loans or without your parents paying for everything you need some form of income. You're right that no one is forced into it. It is a choice - it's just one where the demand far exceeds the supply. But that's the same reason minimum wage exists at all. If it didn't exist then employers would be able to more easily exploit workers from receiving a living wage (and it's not even a living wage anymore). A medium-to-large sized organization offering an unpaid internship hardly has an excuse to avoid the sacrifice of the bare minimum $7.25 an hour.

I took loans to cover my expenses. but me doing unpaid internships, unpaid research, unpaid tutoring was on my time investment to build my resume and network.

Like I said, just because loan interest rates are sky high doesn't mean its the entire worlds job to make sure you can afford to pay it. Interest rates need to be a more reasonable level. I get that the people getting these loans have no credit but its the governments investment into the country's future through education.

backdoor roth or mega-backdoor roth will get you anywhere from the 5-10 million range over 40 years based on decent-average return rates.

Only way it gets to the billions is if you making some AMAZING investments that go up by something in the order of 1000 percent. So a stock going from pennies or fractional pennies goes to the hundreds or thousands.

Playing football, being upset then you're not getting paid, then not making it to the NFL and becoming a fast food worker is equivalent to interning at a law-firm, not getting paid, not making it to law-school, then becoming a fast food worker. You chose your own career path. You gambled on yourself and lost. You should've chose wiser.

And I'm all for cheaper college tuition. My own personal federal student loans are half a million right now. Thats a separate issue though.

It's a separate topic altogether but unpaid internships are absolutely a disgusting practice just as much. In theory it's like "job shadow us and we'll show you how it goes around here so you can get a little experience and understanding of the field" and in practice it's just "give us free labor and be grateful we're even allowing yourself to be associated with us". It's only tolerated because students in certain fields are so desperate that being exploited and taking out more loans to temporarily get through it in the absence of even minimum wage is the best option they have

I don't think its a big deal in college tbh. Your time is your investment. If you feel like investing it in an internship is worthwhile, then so be it. If you feel like its best for your future to play football, then so be it. No one is forcing them to play, likewise no one is forcing them to intern at a company. You don't have to take more loans to do intern work. You just have to better manage your time.

And in internships you have the opportunity to thrive, to network, build your resume. Theres tons of benefits that can value more than just a salary.

Companies' revenue streams aren't dependent on interns. The profit margins of colleges and consequently the cities they reside in can be heavily influenced by the success of their sports programs, which revolve around student athletes. More games a team wins in a competitive league, the more attention they get, which means more applicants to the school, and more fans visiting the city that you can monetize a tourism industry around.

And thats why they get scholarships while most students don't, even some of the brightest students don't.

-It depends on how you view college sports. How is it different than an unpaid internship where the company makes money, you acquire skills/training and resume building while working part-time or full-time hours. Its an investment into your future. In some cases it ends up being a waste of time and you go into another field. In some cases its a great opportunity to advance into better positions. How is sports any different?

-A large number of athletes get scholarships anyways and in turn they are required to participate in sports. Its the equivalent of a student getting a scholarship who is expected to bring prestige to the university's name. That's the universities investment. If a student does breaking research for a university lab and brings them fame and money, the student doesn't get production bonuses. So why should the athlete?

-College sports already has a major problem with lack of parity. This will exacerbate that problem as wealthier schools will be able to buy off the best athletes. Competition will suffer. Smaller schools won't be able to compete.

-I do think players should be able to market and make money off of themselves. So if a college player wants to sign autographs or market himself to sell things, I'm all for that. But I'm against colleges paying players a salary. I'm of the opinion that if you don't think its fair that you're not getting paid for your time, then quit. I'm sure they can find plenty of players who are willing to play for full scholarships who won't mind not getting paid. Thats how life works.

what I dont agree with is that kids 2 and above are required to wear masks. Theres no way a 2 year old is wearing a mask. And if you're kid is difficult, or on the spectrum or something like that, that is also going to be impossible. I think they should make medical exceptions for these kids and raise the age to like 4 or 5 for the mask requirement.

Are you clarifying that you want it dry? Because the majority of customers that order a Cappuccino wind up complaining that it's "50% foam" and return it. I used to work as a Barista, and I know the majority of staff I would work with got to a point where unless the person specified, or they were a regular, they would make their cappuccino's either 70/30 or 80/20 liquid to foam to avoid dealing with angry stupid people.

Just tell them you want it dry. And if they don't know what that means, you're totally justified in your general disdain.

Yes I want 50/50. 80/20 is basically a latte.

I can tell immediately when I pick up the cup if they got it right or not.

I don't want it dry tho, I want some milk. Even like 30/70 liquid to foam would be fine.

Usually it ends up being like 0-1 times per month, then in the winter months if I'm feeling under the weather or sore throat or something, I get chai tea lattes from starbucks and I'll get those like for several straight days. The PJs coffee is at work and I use a work meal allowance for it, so this doesn't cost me much. $40 out of my paycheck pays for a $250 allowance, so really it technically costs me a small fraction of the actual price.
