TC, you have not been paying to Dana Whites bullshit for several years now.

Ever heard that saying the squeaky wheel gets the grease? The fighters who do the best job of promoting themselves get paid the most. They do this by making people think about them constantly, thus wanting to buy tickets to their fights. That dipshit Conor McGregor is being talked about now as possibly getting a title shot, if he wins his next fight. This guy has not won shit in years, but it doesnt matter to Dana White because McGregor is a master of talking a big game and convincing people to spend money on him.

Btw, I like Kamaru Usman a lot, but we can still be objective and give credit to Covington for pushing the pace against him and not quitting between rounds, even though his jaw was broken midway. Very few fighters would have had the skill and tenacity to do that.

People know it isnt literal, and the tone is dismissive and condescending. (Note: some older people do use son as a friendly greeting, maybe even a term of endearment, for younger males, so there is nuance to this.)

just wanted to add to the Mother Teresa thing....she really didn't do anything that amazing for the most part. the only people who think she was great are biased Catholics who think only her "saving souls" matters. but you take that away and she at best did nothing of value. and at worst, was a horrid human

That is a terrible reimagining of history.

Mother Teresa was definitely a controversial figure, especially in more recent times. But you cant erase the fact that she personally helped feed, treat, and otherwise care for thousands of Indias poorest citizens for more than four decades. Forty plus years. Most people work regular, comfortable jobs for only half as long, and they very rarely do it in places housing the diseased and unwanted.

I am fully aware of the criticisms people have of her, including her anti-abortion views and her very Catholic perspective on suffering for salvation. She could have run her charity missions with less emphasis on promoting religion and instead provide much better health care, for example. She wasnt perfect and I dont agree with the Church declaring her a saint. But saying or even implying she did nothing of value is ridiculous.

I find it odd that the movie most people credit Sigourney Weaver for being the badass action chick in, Aliens, is the one movie in the entire series where she was presented as softer and more motherly female character - she was explicitly juxtaposed against the *actual* action female of the movie, Jenette Goldsteins Private Vasquez.

No, this is a positive of Ripleys character. She is an example of a female character who exhibits some traditional masculine traits, but she is never separated from the fact that she is a woman. I appreciate the fact that Aliens explored a bit of her pain at losing time with her biological daughter and that her motherly bond was extended to Newt.

I did like Vasquez quite a bit as well, Btw.

I heard about this, but was too lazy to look into it. I mean I still am too lazy, so I will have to take your word for it.

Personally, I think this is good. We should just rotate between Asians, Latinos, Blacks, Whites, in whatever order, every year. Maybe we can have it broken down into more specific groups, so it could be all Cambodian Americans winning beauty pageants next year, all Cuban Americans winning the year after, and so on.

This is the only way to achieve equality and I am not joking.

I called a few lawyers on friday and left messages. I hope i will hear from at least one of them on monday. As for the house, we will be selling it, neither of us could afford to buy it out from the other, or continue to make payments on our own.
Right now it looks like i will stay in the house, she will rent someplace and we will both continue to pay for both until we put the house on the market. We live in a very sought after neighborhood so we will make a consiserable amount of money off the house which we will split down the middle (hopefully)

Ok, I believe that will will work out for the best, for both of you. Definitely get that legal counsel, so you can at least get some good, legitimate advice from people who deal with these situations all the time. From my experience, don't be intimidated and do not put this off. Talk to a lawyer as soon as you can. Don't think of it as giving up on the marriage either. Maybe your relationship will mend itself over time, but at least you will be approaching it with a level-headed view and not setting yourself up for extra harm. Things are already rough enough as it is.

Good luck, dude.

I told her i dont know, its tough on a weeknight. I told her i am sad. She wasnt answering and i pushed - i said "can you please acknowledge what i said", she said she doesnt want to be mean. She then said shes not sad, shes happy with her decision and is not coming back.
My dudes, im crushed. Feeling numb, sitting in the burrito place alone. I dont know what im going to do

Dont let her back into the house, at least not under those circumstances. If you have questions, talk to a lawyer because I'm pretty sure it could be difficult to legally have her vacate the premises if you allowed her to keep staying there. That could get ugly real fast, so you need to think clearly and protect yourself.

This was a stock joke of the time that meant someone was going to use their drinking [of a weak alcoholic drink] as license to do something they wouldn't, or that they were accusing the person of pouring weak drinks. In this case, it's the former.

The whole song could not possibly be more about these people wanting to do it. Every single excuse of hers is about the way society will treat them, not her own trepidation of will. It is f'ing ridiculous that people act like no teenager or young person has ever had to leave somewhere, not wanted to, and needed to play the better angel of themselves against friends trying to talk them out of it. It was one of my most related-to Christmas songs as a teen who had to drive home in the snow and ice or sleep on the floor of my parents' office instead of at a friend's house scores of times because my parents would have rather had a dead virgin than a sexual deviant for a child.

I haven't heard the new version, but I heard some BS last year that changed all the lyrics to things like "I understand 'no' means 'no'" and "You're free to go." That shit and preemptive consent waivers are HUGE red flags; no one wants to be around someone who says shit like "I proooooomise not to rape you! :3" because they definitely will. The only lines that would need to be changed would be:

"I really can't stay" > "I wish I could stay."
Sets the stage even clearer.

"Say, what's in this drink?" > "Who cares what they think?"
Updates a stock joke that was hackneyed before Bugs Bunny was cool, as well as still provide the same spirit of near-concession from her perspective. That line also has his line rhyme 'there' with 'there,' so it's not very much weaker lyrically with the repeated 'think.'

Thanks for the great write up.

It should clear issues that some have with the song, but I suspect most people were just looking for the next problematic thing to throw their outrage at.

Everybody understands that this this isnt unique to China because it has been the history of the world for powerful nations, going back thousands of years. But its comical when you see a country doing it in modern times, especially when they have the audacity to basically say nope, we are totally not doing that nefarious thing that you literally just saw us do.
