Wakka has been booted plenty in the Gen/charon era, so I don't think that'll stop him

hey I pushed Squall hard for 6 straight years and then he won without me making a single save outside the final

so yeah a lot of it is just things falling into place in the exact right order unless you just have a strong set of people determined to make it happen

But honestly it was for the best that I stepped away for as long as I did. Hosting was mentally draining, and I was starting to take it personally that Squall never won, like it was my fault and wondering why nobody would help him win for my sake like happened for so many others.

I know how the Quartz system works but I don't put any thought into creating combinations anyway

I just put a Petrify Quartz on a character with a big AoE craft and call it a day

what good characters are getting shut out every year because we just don't have enough spots for them

I don't care what the haters say, Caius is a great villain just based on that voice alone. Peak villain voice

thankfully Liam O'Brien plays a bad guy in other stuff so you don't need to subject yourself to Caius just to hear his voice

I actually do often feel my side projects hurt Locke if they last long enough. It's definitely my fault he died in the Gau year, and if my negligence hadn't killed Mog first this year, it could've happened again.

Yeah, this is what I'm saying about it being unlikely Locke gets back anytime soon. Most characters who reach the finals get there through things breaking right for them to make a run, not because they had the backing in place to get there early on. Locke got favorable circumstances this year. He's not a consistent threat.

VI has Celes, Edgar, and Kefka
VII has Zack, Cloud, and Reno
X has Lulu, Auron, and Tidus
XIII now has Lightning, Fang, and Vanille

yep Leonhart era was Steiner > Lightning, Vivi > Locke, and Cloud > Laguna

(all of which I voted for the loser, whoops)

This was Locke's first top ten since his finals loss, but he finished 13th a couple years ago.

My perfect record of backing leftyera winners continues (after everyone I supported in the Leonhart era lost)

In contests where I've voted for more than just the finals, I am now 1-7 in voting for the winner (my lone win was Tidus over Kefka, where my 10 votes actually mattered in the result, so at least there's that).
