Yeah, it's not a problem. I generally don't find Tales games to be that difficult in the first place on the default setting anyway.

Yeah, I figured you could based on what followed, but I feel like I'm overleveled at this point because none of these fights have been that hard. His Mystic Arte was able to one-shot, but it's only single-target so it wasn't that hard to deal with.

Okay, let me try to sum up everything that happened in Xillia. When we arrive in Fennmont, we find out there's been an explosion at the lab where the Lance of Kresnik was being held. Unfortunately, it's no longer there, but we find out that the crazy girl in red from the beginning of the game was responsible for the explosion. We find her in town, and Rowen recognizes her as a member of the Rashugal royal family, although she identifies herself as a member of Auj Oule's Chimeriad, named Agria (get the "S" out). She is neither Agrias nor Marle, despite her real name being Nadia. We beat her again, and then we head into the castle to confront Nachtigal.

His castle is pretty cool-looking, and when we reach his royal chamber, he waxes aloud about how being a king and ruling over the world is his birthright. It is his privilege to rule the world, or so he claims. After beating him, Rowen seems on the verge of being able to talk some sense into him...until he's assassinated by a bunch of ice arrows from nowhere. Then we learn there's about to be a battle between the two nations in the marshes to the north, and Rowen uses his position as the Conductor to get us some inside information about what's going on between the two armies. He also learns that boosters have potentially serious side effects. No, not memory loss, but they sap strength directly from the user, which has Rowen naturally worried about Elize, but he doesn't mention it to anyone.

Then we go through a cool series of battles where we move from one battle to the next with no breaks as we force our way through the battlefield fighting both sides to get to the Lance of Kresnik, culminating in a fight against the other three members of the Chimeriad. We learn Wingul's Booster is inside his head, so Rowen's idea to destroy it to help him is out the window. Waiting ahead is King Gaius, who wields a Sephiroth-esque sword and has a pretty cool Mystic Arte. We "win" the fight, but the ensuing cutscene makes it seem like Gaius is about to defeat us...until Ivar drops in from above with the key and inserts it into the Lance of Kresnik, just like Alvin planned.

Turns out the Lance wasn't what Milla thought it was. It seemingly blasts a hole through the sky itself, letting a fleet of airships through, and we learn that Nachtigal's right-hand man, Gilland, is actually an Exodus agent. On top of that, he has the power of a Great Spirit of his own, named Celsius, someone even Milla didn't know existed. Makes it clear that he was the one who killed Nachtigal, too. Gilland orders Maxwell to be taken alive, but since Milla won't consciously retreat, Gaius KOs her so the party will take her away. Unfortunately, Elize is taken by a couple of Exodus people, so while Rowen and Leia retreat with Milla, Jude and Alvin rush in to save Elize.

Jiao helps us save her, although he's seriously wounded in the process. He confesses to Elize that he was the bandit who killed her parents, and then he stays behind while he uses all his mana to wipe out the troops in the area. Afterward, one of the airships fires upon Jude and company, and he gets KO'd. He falls into the marsh and swept away to some snowy place, where he meets a spirit that he's able to link with and use in battle now. I guess now we're off to find where everyone else went, but that was a pretty great series of events.

16. Kuja (Final Fantasy IX)

The Good
: Whenever Kuja shows up in Final Fantasy IX, something big is about to happen. He's involved in some of my favorite moments in the game, like the fight at the Iifa Tree at the end of Disc 2, the battle in Alexandria at the beginning of Disc 3, or him turning into Trance Kuja and destroying Terra at the end of Disc 3. I also like his first appearance in Burmecia at the end of Disc 1 where he just looks down on everyone after Beatrix has owned them and walks away. The first three discs all end with Kuja triumphant over the party. I also like his blatant narcissism to the point that he'll ramble in long, almost poetic monologues about his plans to no one in particular.

The Bad: Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Kuja's deathbed repentance at the end. I don't think they pull it off very well, especially with Mikoto trying to eulogize him as if what he did was laudable in any way. I think it would've been cooler if he tried to sucker Zidane into thinking he changed at the end and then tried to kill him with the Iifa Tree as he dies. Oh well.

The Best: Part of the reason I like Kuja's extreme narcissism that it makes it all the more amazing when Garland kicks the props out from under him by revealing that he's going to die soon. Then he decides the best course of action is to destroy everything before it destroys him. Also, while the fight with Trance Kuja isn't super difficult or anything, "The Dark Messenger" is one of my favorite special boss themes in the series.

6-2 does a couple things with Trucy right off the bat that moved her up my character rankings. First, she tells you the truth about her magic trick immediately without needing to twist her arm about it. Second, she finally shows her vulnerable side, and the fact that it's to Apollo specifically is pretty significant in my book. Phoenix says in 4-4 that he's the only one who knows that side of her, so for her to show it to someone else is a huge deal.

Also, Trucy has officially passed Franziska, and Athena will pass Kay pretty soon.

I mean I sorta get why they did it the way they did because if you're going to have Trucy as a client, she's got a stronger connection to Apollo than Phoenix despite their father/daughter relationship, and it'd be even weirder if Phoenix were around and wasn't the one defending his daughter.

I guess it'd be better if they just changed the circumstances around her arrest a bit, like have her TV show not be set to air until after Phoenix is supposed to come back.

15. Delita Hyral (Final Fantasy Tactics)

The Good
: Delita's rise from peasant to king over the course of Final Fantasy Tactics is fascinating to watch, especially through the eyes of Ramza and comparing the arcs of the two characters since they're great foils. Both of them get their worlds turned upside down in Chapter 1. Ramza's response was to play an entire different game from everybody else, while Delita chose to beat everyone at their own game. By the end of the game, it's hard to tell if Delita should even be considered a good guy anymore. He operates in the gray better than just about any character in the series.

The Bad: The dude's pretty plainly a hypocrite. Delita reacts to being manipulated for someone else's game by trying to manipulate everyone else for his own gain. Thankfully, the game doesn't let him get away with it because he ends up killing the one person left he truly loved because she lives in fear that she'll betray him someday, too, and posing one of the great final lines in the series: "Ramza, what did you get? I..." Also, Ramza/Delita isn't a rivalry and shouldn't have been in Rivalry Rumble. Don't confuse rivals with foils, people!

The Best: Delita is involved in some of the best scenes in the game, such as the showdown with Algus at Fort Zeakden and the battle at Zirekile Falls. He and Ramza have a lot of great scenes together, although my favorite might be when they meet together at the church and both of them make their intentions and goals known to each other. His relationship with Ovelia is really intriguing, too, because you're never really sure what to make of it right up to the very end of the game.

Inga showing up at the end of 6-1 was when I knew SoJ was going places. Also, it's kind of interesting that you can glean from meeting him for the first time that he has prosopagnosia if you already know because Phoenix comments in his inner monologue about how Inga keeps looking him up and down like he's some exotic animal on display.

Also, the cutscene at the end between Dhurke and Datz doesn't feel like it belongs because shouldn't Datz still be in jail at this point? I guess I'm not perfectly clear on the SoJ timeline yet.

Anyway, 6-1 complete. That was more fun than I remembered. Numbers soonish.
