https://www.gematsu.com/2020/07/spiders-studio-announces-steelrising-for-ps5-xbox-series-x-and-pc

For our latest game, Steelrising, we created a new and original universe especially for the game, and a much more action-focused approach than the gameplay found in our previous titles.
In Steelrising, you play as Aegis, a robot in female form, a masterpiece that serves as a bodyguard to Queen Marie-Antoinette, to put an end to the massacres carried out by the robot army of King Louis XVI, who seems to have gone mad while trying to suppress the nascent revolution by unleashing an army of out-of-control robots.
In this version of Paris, you find well-known monuments and others that dont exist anymore. We recreated the Grand Chatelet, for example, and the Tour du Templethe kind of places that characterize the period.
What would have happened if Louis XVI had been a tyrant and could indulge his passion for machines and automatons to crack down on the revolution in its early stages?
We wanted to add more verticality to exploration, so when you move around the Parisian streets, you dont just stay at ground level. And to move from fight to fight, we wanted to really exploit other types of movement: climb up on a balcony, discover a secret passage to another locationthat kind of thing.

Lets finish this topic before the end of the day!

What has been everyone's favorite game this year?

(Can be new for you, not the actual year)
For me it was Ori and the Will of the Wisps. I loved the first game, had pretty high expectations going into the sequel, but it blew me the hell away all the same. I'm so glad I got to experience this game. And it reminds me again of how awesome itrumpmypillow8 is for all he's done and his Ori 2 giveaway!

Also I started dabbling around in Kenshi, though I stopped last night to read a couple of newbie guides lol. Story of Seasons is out in a few days on Switch and then later Tsushima and I'm so antsy for 'em. An open game like this seems like a really good order for the time being

I've heard great things about Blasphemous, especially from a Discord bud who's totally in love with it. I have some other metroidvanias I'd like to get to first but I have my eye on it.

I also enjoyed Death's Gambit, in terms of 2D Souls-likes.

Also nvm about the Mortal Shell beta demo. It has a crashing problem where it can make you restart your PC. I'm willing to ignore other beta-y stuff, but not that.

I loved it a lot as well with very few complaints. I agree on your somniums point that for the most part they were fine but a couple later in the game annoyed me. And I was on PC and maybe they patched it, but back then the Minecraft somnium had a crashing problem and it drove me up the wall trying to save scum my way through it. ;_;

I have a few nitpicks so far. Like I wish music would automatically loop immediately instead of a lengthy break with an awkward silence. When talking to people, many of them have multiple things to ask them but when I ask one, the dialogue box closes and I have to talk to them all over again to ask the other. And then I don't like the gacha currency having two different currencies, one for normal banners and one for limited banners. That's...weird. And I didn't know, and wasted my currency on the limited banner one when I wanted the common one. :/

The game is only coming out for PS4, pc, mobile, and I think Switch.

As for characters, some are recruited through the story while others are recruited through the gacha mechanic I mentioned in the op. Once you get them though, yeah you can make your own party and switch out whenever on the fly.

And yeah it can be played single player or with co-op.

Playing the closed beta on PS4 right now (though I already know I'm going to want to move to PC for the real launch) and it's about what I expected. And I mean that in a good way, since I've been pretty excited. It has gacha elements though for characters and weapons, which I know a lot of you guys are a hard pass about.

The gameplay though, dayum. They put some nice effort into all of this. Plus I can change it to Japanese audio and listen to Kaguya Shinomiya the whole time. BLESS.

so were all of these ever actually *confirmed* features or just "things we'd like to implement"

because the backlash to "things we'd like to implement" not being implemented is one of the reasons blizzard stopped being so open with its future plans for games
lol The latter. It was last mentioned in 2018, and they were questioned on it again recently. It wasn't a feature that was cut last week, it was a long-ass time ago. And games in the middle of development create and scrap features and mechanics and shit like that all the time--just in this case, CDPR announced it and showed it off way too soon when things like that were still getting shuffled around and the reactionary video gamers can't handle it.

Personally I separate the personality of creators from their product, unless it's something extreme and illegal. Rowling's a psycho and I don't agree with her views, but I grew up with and still enjoy the Harry Potter universe and I don't see any problem with her getting money from that. But yeah, if anyone else disagrees, which is also valid, then they can just not buy the game and carry on. I don't agree with this whole Twitter rage fad.
