51. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren
https://myanimelist.net/anime/18671/Chuunibyou_demo_Koi_ga_Shitai_Ren

The cast returns in Ren and they really step things up for the most part. Dekmoari and Nibutani continue their lovers quarrel which leads Nibutani to walk down a path she wants to forget abouut. Kumin does something incredible by being comic relief in a comedy show and making it work. Yuuta and Rikka largely stay the same characters in the end. This does say they are not very enjoyable to watch, they are, there is just some disappointment.

Ren also adds a new character, Shichimiya. She's Yuuta's childhood friend which obviously leads to Rikka having doubts about the state of their relationship. This is what you could call the "story" of Ren.

In my opinion the individual parts of Ren are even better than the first season. I've already gave praises to the returning cast. The romance is cute (although not very fulfilling), the battle sequences are significantly better than the first season, the jokes are better, and the moe meter is just off the charts. However, there are some sacrifices it makes and they are big ones.

I have two main issues with Ren. The first is with Shichimiya, she's touted as a main character but ultimately gets less screen time than the rest of the characters by simply not going to the same school. However, she arguably gets the most significant story arc and character development. This is find and good but the progression is obvious and jumpy because of her lack of screen time. She still only serves one purpose in the anime and that is to put doubt into Rikka's head about Yuuta.

The next is that at the end of the anime everything is still back to the status-quo. I know a lot of anime do this, but it's not as forgivable here since it actually touts that there is going to be a change at the end and then they just pull it away from you. One of the reasons why I didn't mind the drama in the first season was because Rikka actually had a major character revelation and something became of it. Here she might have somewhat of the revelation but the ultimate payoff is very weak.

Now for the animation. It's top notch, Kyoani's budget and know how is really obvious especially during the chuuni sequences which are an absolute joy to watch. It doesn't matter if they don't really make sense they are some of the best "fight" sequences I've seen. The sound and music in the show are noticeably good and detailed. Again, where they really shine is during the chuuni fights where everything is just amplified.

In the end I would say Ren has better peaks versus the first season but as a complete package it's very shallow. The anime teeters in the last quarter without the payoff required to make the whole thing work. That said, 95% of the anime is a joy to watch.

Yes, this does mean I believe the first season to be good enough where it can be placed separately from this one.

That leaves the first 50 down. A lot of huge titles are still left.

53. Space Dandy
https://myanimelist.net/anime/20057/Space%E2%98%86Dandy

Space Dandy is a dandy in space. It is the result of a lot of the Cowboy Bebop team coming back together (including both Watanabe and Masahiko Minami) which is why the show got any real hype to begin with. It is also a rare show that aired in the US before Japan and it was already fully dubbed. The show has a plethora of talent working on it and it seems like a different person was in charge of each episode which gives it a very different feel in time.

Of course this is not always a good thing as Space Dandy is among the most inconsistent shows on this list the good episodes are among the best ever like the high school musical one deserved an Emmy. But some other ones are very forgetable. Not even things like art styles or tone are really kept. Although there are unifying factors like character personalities and stuff almost anything goes.

The anime itself follows Dandy, a cat like creature who is not a cat named "Meow" and a robot "QT" as they go searching for bounties on dangerous aliens. You might remember that Spike was also a bounty hunter. But Space Dandy is a comedy and the characters, while not inept do often get in the way of themselves. There's no continuity at all where each episode should be seen as a one off with the same main cast. The characters are all quirky in somewhat dumb ways like Dandy being obsessed with a space hooters rip off called Boobies.

In terms of animation goes, Space Dandy is among the best you'll see on this list. It's incredibly amazing to watch and look at for a show as a whole. Space Dandy is a rollercoaster in both tone and to an extent quality but its unique flair and some of the huge highlight episodes really makes the whole package worth it.

52. PriPara
https://myanimelist.net/anime/23135/PriPara

Note: I have not finished this show yet, but do plan on marathoning the rest when I can.

PriPara is going to be the oddest entry on this list. The show is clearly made for little kids and is a cheap idol style anime with lame cg dancing and stuff. But in reality it's one of the most charming shows that has aired in the past five years.

The anime stars Laala Manaka as she wants to go to PriPara a place where any girl (or guy) can become an idol. However, her school forbids it and when she does get her ticket to get in she has to be careful not to get caught. Along the way she meets other girls who also want to become idols and rise the ranks to stardom.

The show is very simple and is mainly about them trying to follow their dreams. It differs greatly from other idol shows as there really isn't any major internal conflicts or self-retrospective but simple anime like villains giving the show a much more old school vibe a lot of times. In a great deal of cases the villains simply end up becoming friends later on maybe it's to like teach kids a life lesson or something, I don't know.

The characters themselves are also simple but likable. A lot of them have like a running gag such as Lala saying "kashkoma!" or Sophie running out of energy and going "psshuuu" there's even an episode where they completely make fun of these things.

From a technical standpoint the show is pretty bland but passable. The overall show is kind of repetitive with a lot of the gags being repeated a lot but somehow it remains funny, like you expect it to happen. Here's a fun one, take a shot every time kashkoma is said (don't you'll die).

Even so, this is a show I'm not sure I'd watch unless you're digging deep into a reserve for new things to see as it's quite lengthy and takes a certain mindset to get into. But if you have the time this is a wonderful little show that will put a smile on your face.

55. The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior
https://myanimelist.net/anime/21405/Bokura_wa_Minna_Kawaisou

Kawai Complex is a light romantic comedy about Kazunari Usa who wants to get away from weirdos to stay at the inn the show is named after. However, it turns out everyone at the place is a weirdo but it also so happens that Ritsu Kawai a girl who Kazunari has a major crush on also lives there, so he can handle all the other guys... right?

There really is not too much to say about this one. Each character is zany in their own way with Kazunari being the really only normal one. Ritsu is quiet and a bit shy, but also not too out of the ordinary. It's really more the feel the show gives you more than what actually happens in it here. The comedy is good and the characters are enjoyable but it's how they work together as a package. Aside from mainly Ritsu (who gets the bulk of the character development) each character does get some level of development overall and some of them even have serious issues but the show tackles them in more comedic ways.

A huge aspect too is the art style and animation. It really fits this almost not totally there type feeling where it's almost aloof in a lot of cases. However, this is much more a comedy than a romance and a lot of it is really just friend zoning with some breaking out of the friend zone potential after the show is over. I do think this is a great series but one that is probably better than the sum of its parts.

54. The World God Only Knows: Goddesses
https://myanimelist.net/anime/16706/Kami_nomi_zo_Shiru_Sekai__Megami-hen

THWOK:G is the third season (and likely last) of the series. It skips a significant amount of content from season two and I will say that the first seasons are pretty much required viewing for this one. This season continues to follow the exploits of Keima Katsuragi as he has to keep making girls fall in love with him in order to capture runaway spirits that the girls are being possessed with. This time though he must do it again in order to unleash the goddess residing in each girl.

I'll be honest... I don't recall why they are awakening the goddesses in the first place. But in terms of like how each conquest is crafted this is the best one in the series. This is by far one of the best harems I've seen with a surprising amount of individual character development and good comedy that doesn't rely on fan service.

As for why the series is good overall, it's mostly because the main character is not a complete loser. A lot of times it's the girls who are the main focus, but that's not really true here we are not rooting for a particular girl to win, we are rooting for Keima to win all the time. His departure from a typical harem protagonist is one of the anchoring factors of the entire series. That said because of the way the show works in arcs of conquest there are issues with I can't be assed to remember anything about any of the girls besides Elsie and Haqua.

From a technical standpoint TWGOK:G has a great soundtrack and surprisingly good production values from Manglobe (remember this is a studio that went bankrupt). Too bad the shoe never saw the ending.

57. The Devil is a Part Timer
https://myanimelist.net/anime/15809/Hataraku_Maou-sama

There once was a battle between good and evil... God's chosen champion and the evil demon army led by the Satan. After a long clash the side of good rose victorious ridding the world of the evil forever. Or so that would have been the case but Satan managed to escape at the last moment with a portal to modern Japan. Now without the magical powers of the spiritual realm (or whatever they call it in the show) the demon must take the identity of a human and work at a fast food restaurant in order to make ends meat.

Okay the opening paragraph might not be exactly right but that's basically the background of the show. In this case it's worth noting that even though Sadao does share the same name as Satan he's not like the Satan in terms of say the one in The Blue Exorcist. It's stated somewhere that he's simply named after him. In any case the cast is pretty fun, almost all of them are from the spiritual realm so living as normal humans is hard for them so there are a ton of misunderstandings and funny moments. Overall each of them has like their own little quirk as they try to adapt to normal life. Among the best ones is Suzuno Kamazuki (who is the best girl).

There is not much of a story really as it's mainly a situational comedy. There are like story elements and minor arcs but nothing substantial. A bigger issue is that the show speaks at around episode 10 or so, much like Hyouka did near the end of its 2 season run. Giving the latter episodes a kind of meh feeling overall. But no matter what this is an easy show to like.

56. Watamote
https://myanimelist.net/anime/16742/Watashi_ga_Motenai_no_wa_Dou_Kangaetemo_Omaera_ga_Warui

Watamote is a comedy anime that is probably the definition of cringe to a lot of people. It's among the more polarizing shows that have come out in the past five years with some people really liking the comedy it has and others being incredibly put off by it. The anime is about Tomoko, a socially awkward girl... okay that's putting it lightly... a girl who is so socially inept a b8er would be able to talk to a girl who is not their mom much easier than she would be able to talk to anyone.

The anime is another situational comedy most of the skits have long build ups with a huge punchline at the end. As far as like the way they are crafted it's one of the best shows I've seen. Some of the best ones were like the meet and greet and the vibrator scene. So the anime is a lot of "this is kinda weirdly cute" and boom you either laugh hysterically or tell yourself "that's so wrong."

The only real character worth mention is the main Tomoko. She is an unpopular girl not really because people are not nice to her, but more because she can't act in any sane manner around most people. But she wants to make friends and greatly overcompensates in her trying to get them. She sounds like a character that might be someone you can be sad for... but no because other scenes do show that she'd basically do almost anything to impress like cheat against children in a card game. She is also a bit of a pervert. Honestly, she's someone who is amazing fun to watch but maybe not as much to hang around with.

Also almost all anime now has a reference or two somewhere and Watamote is not a parody so it's a bit more limited but the Death Note one almost floored me. Not telling you guys where it is but when it happens you'll know. Beyond that though Watamote is a well pieced together comedy that doesn't really have a lot of laughs per minute but saves them for maximum impact.

59. High School DxD New
https://myanimelist.net/anime/15451/High_School_DxD_New

New is the second season of HSDD and is a direct sequel to the first season. The second season explores the backstories of several characters most notably Yuuto Kiba and Akeno. It's also obviously about Issei trying to improve his dress break power among other things. There's also tons of fan service.

Besides the returning cast a couple of notable new characters are introduced in Xenovia (blue haired), and Gasper (Trap). Gasper adds some funny comedy especially because his gimmick is that he's scared all the time and hides in a box. The rest of the cast does get some development overall and as note characters that got focus in season 1 (mainly Rias) take a slight backseat.

The show itself is actually a good balance of action, comedy, story elements, and fan service. Obviously the big draw is the fan service as that's like what brings a lot of the stuff together. A lot of sexual trope humor is in the show. Thankfully the fan service is very good and the majority of the girls in the show are also on the upper end of anime attractiveness. When compared to something like Heaven's Lost Property (which again, within the genre is probably the golden standard), DxD has stronger comedy but weaker emotional impact. As for the characters comparison it's interesting because HLP has characters that go through more distinct transformation arcs while DxD explores more of character history.

In any case DxD is one of the best modern ecchi shows that has aired. The first two seasons are pretty much must watches in the genre, the third season is not that good and is skippable. In case you're wondering my favorite girl is Xenovia.

58. NouCome
https://myanimelist.net/anime/19221/Ore_no_Nounai_Sentakushi_ga_Gakuen_Love_Comedy_wo_Zenryoku_de_Jama_Shiteiru

This is a show I completely forgot aired in this time frame before I made this list. It's about Kanade Amakusa who has a condition called "Absolute Choice". Basically, his life is a dating sim where a voice in his head tells him to choose from two or more specific options. He must choose one or suffer a migraine until he does. Of course the choices he gets are insane.

Like the title states the show is a comedy and it is among the funniest shows on this list. It's not as balanced as some other comedies that are going to appear a bit later but in terms of like pure laughs this one is hard to match. It's not just because the plot gives the situations a new flair but the cast is dead on too. If you thought the cast to like Muromi or Sakai was zany, the cast here is that and a bit more.

The cast overall is still a bit shallow but their diverse personalities work very well when they react to the different absolute choice answers. Chocolat is a girl who fell from heaven but has no memories and seems very clueless, but sometimes reverts to normal Chocolat who is actually smart. Furano is a tsundere/kuudere type cross who has some of the best lines in the show, and Ouka is a typical genki. Also, contrary to my normal tastes in this case I like Furano because every time she opens her mouth it's hilarious for some reason.

There's really not much else, there's not story beyond Kanade trying to complete missions to get rid of the curse but that's just a way to get into more funny situations. I will say that a show with a similar premise called "If Her Flag Breaks" aired a few months later. Don't watch that, that show is a trainwreck in the worst way. Noucome is a trainwreck but an amazing one.

60. Muromi by the shore
https://myanimelist.net/anime/16910/Namiuchigiwa_no_Muromi-san

This is the only half length show that is on the list. It's about a boy (Takurou) who meets a mermaid (Muromi) while fishing on a dock. Now, partly because of interest and also partly because he seems like he has no other friends, both of them often return to spots where they can meet up... along with other mermaids and creatures too.

As far as comedies go Muromi is one of the more successful ones in terms of hits to misses. Even in parts where the jokes fall kind of flat, it just looks funny or the characters reactions make it funny, or something like that. It has fall backs if one things falls. If the OP is any indication the show is completely over the top which makes for an insanely fun time.

The cast is great. Takurou has some clear annoyance at Muromi but there is a clear level of appreciation for her friendship as well. Muromi herself is immature and somewhat annoying, but in the good anime type way. None of the characters are really fleshed out, but they have great interaction with each other which really helps bring the show into its peak.

The art style is like a throwback almost but the level of animation the title has is pretty impressive overall in how smooth it is. The OP especially is among the best on this list when you mix the visuals the music together.

If you want to watch something that is a bit zany in its situational humor you should give this show a try.

62. School Live!
https://myanimelist.net/anime/24765/Gakkougurashi

Warning: This particular write up contains spoilers. Granted, they are revealed in the first episode but that's part of the effect for it. These are unavoidable for the write up without making excessive use of censor tags, which if you don't know based on my previous topics, I dislike using.

School Live is one of the more interesting shows on the list. It cashes in on the moeblob craze that is still going on to this day, but also makes a big twist on it and putting them in a post apocalyptic environment. I would not really call it a horror show, although it has some elements to classic horror and especially the zombie genre in it.

The show stars a group of girls who are part of the school living club. One of the girls, Yuki Takeya has completely blocked out the actual state of things and the other girls more or less pander to her trying to keep her "safe". There's not really character development in the show but it's interesting how the new girl (Miki Naoki) clashes with the rest of the group and how different circumstances changes how each girl reacts. There is not a lot of psychological stuff going on, but you can tell they put pieces of it in there to make the show more than just girls and zombies.

Even though there is not really a "story" there is progression and a suitable climax to the show. It uses each girls strength in the given situation apparent. Also, even though the show is clearly a comedy there are a bunch of sad parts too. But even so each episode is presented very well and the art direction in particular is very strong for this title.

School Live is a truly unique show that almost manages to blend two conflicting genres perfectly together. It has some issues with being a bit too cliche if you strip away the moe, but it's packed with cute laughs, tense moments, and even some heartbreak.

61. Natsume's Book of Friends
https://myanimelist.net/anime/32983/Natsume_Yuujinchou_Go

Note: The one I listed is season 5 but the write up is like an overview of the show more because there are so many episodes I've lost track of which episode is in which season anymore.

Natsume's Book of Friends is... I think... the longest running show that is going to appear on this list. It's so long that I jokingly call it Natsume's Neverending Book of Friends. It's about Natsume who has the power to see yokai. He has essentially inherited the book from his late grandmother, Reiko. The book holds the power to release or bound yokai which makes Natsume a target not only for sinister yokai, but also for other humans who would wish to use the book for themselves. Luckily for him Natsume has a power yokai named Madara on his side, but often times Madara is disguised as a fat cat.

Each episode is typically standalone with maybe references to ones in the past when certain events happen. I suppose the closest show to this would be mushishi, but Natsume is much more suited to have a longer run mainly because a lot of the episodes have some sort of emotional effect somewhere. It is slow paced and not a show I recommend binging, but in general the episodic stories are well crafted.

The core characters are Natsume and Madara. It's interesting to see both of them have some changes over the course of the seasons, Natsume is more obvious, but Madara's happens more mid season 1 and he just stays like that. There are side characters that come and go and it's always nice to see their subplots get developed along the way.

Natsume's Book of Friends is a good show that is somewhat held back from never really completing its subplots it starts (really why even have them if you aren't going to do anything with them) but as far as this genre goes it's hard not to give this one a watch.

In case you're wondering this is what my set up looks right now

RZt9z3r

Like current cost of parts is probably around 2500 (not counting the headphones). But if you slightly downgrade the cpu you can save $100, and if you forgo liquid cooling another $80. You can budget case to save $80. And lower the PSU cost to save another $50. You can also not have two expensive monitors and have one good one (probably going to save you around $400 compared to my set up).

Then you can reduce speaking cost if you want to save maybe $100 dollars, reduce MoBo to a normal one and save like $50. Finally, I would say reduce to like a GTX 1070 but bitcoin miners are driving up prices and it seems silly to buy one of the mid range type cards like that. But you can shave off like a $1,000 off of my build and still have a very good machine simply by not buying enthusiast parts and you still keep the 1080. If you don't need a monitor you can probably build the system for like 1200 or so.

64. Maria the Virgin Witch
https://myanimelist.net/anime/26441/Junketsu_no_Maria

Maria the Virgin Witch is what I'd call a coming of age story for our main character Maria. She is a girl (a witch obviously) hate violence and conflict and uses her powers to intervene in them. Seeing this Michael (the angel) makes a decree that if Maria was to lose her virginity she would also lose her powers.

The setting is the 100 years war but there is not much actual war in the show. Instead it's more about a story of what happens when extreme idealism is met with the world and more the effects of it. The show tackles several big social issues within its air time and some of them are better addressed than others. The show also does not shy from things that might make the viewer uncomfortable as it does pretty well at making the viewer feel what the characters are in a given situation.

Maria is the star and gets a lot of development and backstory. The rest of the cast is more supporting, but Joseph also gets a strong development arc. A lot of the show does have some clear "this guy is good and this guy is bad" type things where I think more morally gray characters would have benefited this title greatly.

The show is pretty much is a big hodgepodge of genres going from drama, comedy, thriller, action, romance, and so on. It even has some fan service tossed in there for good measure. While it doesn't excel at any of these things it doesn't do any of them poorly. Their placement in the show might be a little off but the reflection the shows tone at a given moment when compared to a characters mindset is noticeable.

Maria the Virgin Witch is a show I think has a hard time finding an audience because it doesn't really have a lot for anime fans (who normally appreciate very specific traits of anime) and because it's not really extraordinary in any way to make it a classic. However, I still think this is a show that should be on a watch list.

63. New Game!
https://myanimelist.net/anime/31953/New_Game

New Game is a slice of life comedy set in a small game development studio. However, if you're looking for a show that is like about the industry... this is not the show for you. It has some hints about it and uses parts of it for like plot points, but it's basically cute girls doing cute things. I will say though that the second season's tone is different and is closer to what people wanted this show to be to begin with.

Any slice of life comedy is going to be reliant on characters and the comedy. Starting with the characters it's interesting that all of them are adults, but many of them don't act as so? Or I say that but honestly most of them are like early to mid 20s and based on the workplace environment they are in I often find this complaint to weak at best and unfounded at the worst points. That said I think the entire cast is fun but no one really stands out as like a centerpiece or carry for the viewer. Aoba (the main girl) is cute and easy to root for but doesn't quite have the personality to draw people to her. I will like to mention Kou, who I wish would just not wear pants at all, she does relatively little in the show but also has pretty high waifu level potential. But if I had to choose a favorite it would be the genki, Hajime Shinod (who has legs for days).

The comedy is decent enough. It's really more cute than funny I'd say. There are not a lot of real jokes in the show with punchlines more situations that are funny. It's hit and miss at times and I think the comedy level of the show is what places this a little lower than some other shows in the genre that have ranked higher on this list. Don't get me wrong there are very funny parts but not all of them hit the mark.

Despite that this is a good pickup for anyone who likes the moe genre. It has cute characters, serviceable comedy, and some of the best art I've seen for the genre in a while. Praise Dogo Kobo.

66. Girlish Number
https://myanimelist.net/anime/32607/Giarlish_Number

Girlish Number is a slice of life comedy drama. It's a little about voice acting, but more about the story of Chitose Karasuma, a high nosed girl who overestimates her talent. However, as she sees others start to surpass her her reaction and outlook on life starts to change.

To start with, Girlish number has one of the best overall character development arcs for a main on this list in Chitose. She still is probably not a "good person" but her growth and change as a character based on others around her and the circumstances is the most compelling part of the show. You go from wishing she'd stay in a ditch to legitimately rooting for her to succeed. The rest of the cast is also reasonably strong, but don't really get the same development emphasis.

There is no story really beyond Chitose's change overall. The show has good production values with the art work being strikingly vibrant and the vocal team top knotch. More of a niche title, but one the right audience will really appreciate.

65. My Little Monster
https://myanimelist.net/anime/14227/Tonari_no_Kaibutsu-kun

When a very smart but socially reserved girl (Shizuku Mizutani) meets a brash delinquent (Haru Yoshida) and the first thing that happens is a type of confession Shuzuku doesn't know how to take it. MLM is a shoujo rom/com that honestly does not really break too much outside of the norm but has a strong level of "things that work together" for the show.

The core of the show are the two characters. It's good that they are easily likable for their types. Shizuku is the one that the viewer is supposed to connect with more as she is the more passive and traditionally distant type. This of course is assuming the viewer is female (this is a shoujo) but I'd guess overall she's easily to relate to than Haru who is like someone you look to as almost someone you want to be like in a lot of cases. A big thing about the show is that all the characters are pretty weird in their own right, a little too much so to be normal "chock it up to being teenagers" type but not enough where it becomes like some sort of looney tunes show.

Unfortunately the show does have somewhat a lack of romance. There is some there but comedy is clearly the key. The interactions between the characters are very funny and it makes the few romantic moments have a nice mix of being awkward, sweet, and funny. There is a lack of back story and the show is really a lot of "in the moment" type things.

I think this is a good show overall. If you're new to the genre this is actually a show I'd suggest you start at as it is not overly bashing your head with a lot of the extreme shoujo feel that others might have. Still more comedy than romance but it has fun characters and a good feel to it.

68. The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
https://myanimelist.net/anime/33255/Saiki_Kusuo_no_%CE%A8-nan_TV

Saiki K is a series of shorts of five minutes each that were combined each week into a episodic formats. So it technically does not actually qualify for this list but it's my list and I doubt anyone here saw this in its original format anyway. It's about Saiki Kusuo, a teenager with psychic ability, but he's showing us how they are more a curse than a blessing.

As far as pure comedies go, this is probably the funniest show I've seen since Nichijou. Right off what holds it back though is that the characters lack the same appeal overall. Don't get me wrong the characters are really funny, like the magician who is constantly bailed out by Saiki's powers and every time he exclaims "AMAZING". Or the Chuuni who fucking follows Saiki everywhere. The main thing is all the character are really jokes in themselves.

Like I said the comedy is great and very consistent overall. It has jokes that hit right away and some that take the entire skit. However, it doesn't have like that single scene that you're really going to remember. Instead characters basically have their own running gags that make up most of the jokes.

Besides that nothing else too it. No real story or anything or real character development. This was a huge surprise for the season it aired and I think everyone can like this show no matter what genres they like.

67. Zettai Karen Children: The Unlimited - Hyoubu Kyousuke
https://myanimelist.net/anime/16005/Zettai_Karen_Children__The_Unlimited_-_Hyoubu_Kyousuke

This is a spin off of Zettai Karen Children, but it has little real connection. Much like Tokyo ESP to Garei zero. Thankfully this show is much better than Tokyo ESP. It does share a similarity where it is about ESPers. In this case they are led by the title character, who wants to protect other ESPers and put a stop to the humans who mistreat them.

If you think Hyoubu's character sounds like Mageneto... you're right. There are differences though, Magneto is often clearly a villain where Hyoubu take the role of antihero. He gets significant development through flashbacks and the present time story. An interesting note is that Hyoubu is indeed the bad guy in the original work. The other characters worth noting are Yuugiri, kind of like the "bonding element" for the other characters and Andy Hinomiya a character with the ability to negate esper powers.

Overall the structure of the show is similar to what you'll see in Darker Than Black as the overall concepts are very similar. In the end this show deals with some more moral gray areas that DTB and I think had a higher ceiling, but DTB overall has a better cast and a much more fleshed out world. Being a spin off does tend to hurt this show in that regard.

This is a very good show that have no real reasons not to be picked up if you're looking to watch a short action type series. It's easy to get into and is very western friendly overall.

Things to consider

Cheap laptops (sub 400) usually have sub 1080p screens. Some that cost more even don't have full HD but that's rarer. You do have to jump to a significant price range to get anything higher than that. Even a basic decent 1080 monitor is only 100 bucks.

If you build say like a fast ryzen 3 system without really checking prices and going off the top of my head I'll come to like 700 dollars and that's if you assemble the system yourself. I'll be honest, it's possible to find a laptop that is almost as good or even better within a hundred dollars of that now.

There are other benefits though like

Increased expansion ports
More USB slots
Potential to get a better keyboard (by adding like around 100 bucks to the cost)
Upgrade potential

In your case too you should be free from like heat crashes. Prebuilt machines from like companies at least are speced to work like 99.999% of the time outside of overclocking or extreme pressure. Something someone who is not building their own machine is not going to do. I know from having several laptops that they all overheat at some point. I've had three different fx processors in my desktop builds and none of them overheated outside of heavy stress testing. So technically overall stability (in your case) should be a thing.

However, all of these are nominal things. In your case there would be little real benefit without doing tinkering yourself. There are chances too that your laptop is touch screen also, something I actually consider to be a pretty big benefit now. I've more recently started to move away from laptops and into the tablets as their screens are better and have greater portability.

70. Amanchu!
https://myanimelist.net/anime/31771/Amanchu

Amanchu is an easy going slice of life anime in a sub genre more commonly known as iyashikei (healing). It focuses heavily on aesthetics and simple character goals. It has some comedy and small levels of dramatic elements, but it's clear they are not major focuses. If you've seen shows like Aria you should find plenty of similarities due to overall style as they are directed and created by the same pair.

There is not really a story but if anything it's about Futaba as she makes friends and learns to swim. I think that one thing the anime does very well is it establishes point of view. The entire show seems like it's filtered through her. She's not even always the central character, Hikari often steals the spotlight in her scenes, but it's because Futaba herself feels the strength of HIkari's personality herself.

The characters themselves are fun to watch. Futaba gets the majority of the development and it often feels like the viewer is meant to grow along with her. Hikari (aka Pikari) acts as like the shows anchor or guide that allows things to come together. There is also a great deal of chibi faces in the anime. If you've seen aria you know what this is, but there are A LOT MORE OF THEM.

Amanchu is a simple show. If you want something on almost the exact opposite end of the spectrum of a lot of the big mainstream shows out there this is a decent place to start overall.

69. Nisekoi
https://myanimelist.net/anime/18897/Nisekoi

Nisekoi or False Love is a romantic comedy. As far as modern ones goes it's one of the more well known shows. Raku has a locket but no key. It was said that his promised girl is the one who holds the key to the locket. However, he has concrete idea on who it might be.

This write up is about both seasons and they are very different. The first season is more a classic love triangle romcom. There is a lot of focus on Raku spending time with both of the main girls (Chitoge and Onodera) and trying to inch closer to who the promised girl is. Chitoge is the tsundere and Onodera is the childhood friend. The title comes up as Raku and Chitoge are in a fake relationship to symbolize the peace between the two rival gangs in Japan. Obviously enough they don't like each other at the start.
The second season is mainly a comedy. It doesn't progress the story at all and people are going to be upset about that but the I think it's overall a strong season if you no longer consider it to be a romance anymore.

As far as the characters go, I think Chitoge's is especially one of the stronger ones in terms of how she's written. While she is clearly a tsundere she shows signs of being a caring person very early on and not in the suddenly become shy or embarrassed copout type ways. While if you've watched one or more of these anime you'll know that she does actually like Raku at a certain point, the show does a good job at establishing the what I think are not reflected in my actions type. I want to say things about Onodera too, but those involve spoilers.

The first season is a good rom com, but without the level of closure or ultimately the fleshed out cast that is going to bring it up to a level like Toradora. The second season is an incredible comedy but is going to put off people who wanted closure for season 1 (it's not close to closure).

72. Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
https://myanimelist.net/anime/16524/Suisei_no_Gargantia

Taking place in the distant future, a young man named Ledo has found himself on a mysterious planet not charted on his maps (Note I don't actually recall if this is right, but I'm pretty sure it is). It is fully covered in ocean. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that the planet is Earth (because what other planet would this be? This is not like the most original show). In any case now cut off from this team Ledo must work with new found allies as what's hidden beneath is about to come up to pay them a visit.

Probably the most compelling reason to watch this title is the art work. It is one of the most stunning shows in a visual sense that has aired for its year. In a way it really helps the soft level fan service the show has. Not only the visuals though but the audio quality in terms of the soundtrack is also very strong. If you want a show that clearly has good production values and uses a very strong mix of classic and 3d animation this is a good show to pick up.

Ledo, the main character, basically experiences a drastic change as he is transported to a world that is not only foreign to him in landscape (or lack there of) but in culture and ideals. He has to learn things that many of us take for granted. In a way it's like of like Sousuke Sagara from Full Metal Panic, only Ledo was made to be changed into someone who adapted and for Sousuke that's like part of his character that makes him popular. That said, a lot of the other characters are just kind of there. A lot of them nice to look at yeah, but besides like stock personalities a lot of them are really just there to teach Ledo different lessons. The other character though worth mentioning is Chamber. An AI robot that is essentially Ledo's partner.

The show has a lot more promise early on but still is a worthwhile watch even if it's just for the production quality and some of the easy on the eyes characters. It has a decent main character and some interesting plot development later on.

71. My Hero Academia (S1)
https://myanimelist.net/anime/31964/Boku_no_Hero_Academia

I'd say that My Hero Academia is the worst pure shounen show to appear on this list. I'm assuming this is one of the more well known ones too that I've covered. If you're not in the know, the show is about a group of kids who have what the calls "quirks" special abilities that are used to help people and fight villains, or those who use their quirks for evil. One kid, Izuku Midoriya has always dreamed of being a hero like his idol, All Might. But when he discovers he is quirkless, does it end his dreams?

Okay, I'll answer that. Obviously he gets a quirk. It would be interesting to have a story about a character without powers fighting using his brain and planning to beat villains (something that Midoriya does) but we can leave batman alone. A lot of the first season is him just getting to grips with his new quirk and controlling it. In fact, he has almost none and using it puts him at great risk. It's almost annoying that we don't see this until the second season (which right now is bordering on a 10/10 show). But as a character Deku is simple in his resolve but the show clearly shows the effort and passion he has. The rest of the cast all has their own personalities and a bunch of them even get some decent back story and development too. My favorite one though is the frog girl, Tsuyu.

Like all shounen the story is presented in arcs like training, school stuff, villains, etc. Each one builds off the last and the students need to use what they've learned before to overcome new obstacles. I guess the first season is a by the numbers type show but it has extremely good execution in what it does. If you're on the fence about this, don't be though because S2 has been amazing since episode 1. Worth a pick up even if you're not an anime fan.

74. Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha.
https://myanimelist.net/anime/20457/Inari_Konkon_Koi_Iroha

Inari Kon Kon is a light romance anime. It features supernatural elements and I'd consider it a feel good type show. It's pretty hard to talk about since one of the primary story points that really makes the show more interesting is a pretty big spoiler. The show itself is about Inari, a girl who has a normal girl crush, but one day she rescues a baby fox who happens to be a spirit. Now she has the power to change form. How will she use her new powers?

I say light romance because there are romance elements, but there is not too much depth in it. Like there is not that much relationship grooming, a lot of it is more Inari finding herself. The show can almost be considered to be set of like moral obstacles and lessons that our characters have to overcome. Simple things like friendship, sacrifice, and overcoming fear while being presented with supernatural type twits, can feel very close to home.

The characters themselves are a little dramatic. There is a level of melodrama I didn't really expect in this show, but it's limited and kind of makes sense. Characters express emotions at good moments for them. The cast itself is small but a number of them gets decent development, including the mains. Inari herself is a middle school girl and acts like one, there is a definite level of maturity that she gains throughout the show. While not all the characters get such growth, they are not neglected.

The real downer of the show is the length. It's only 10 episodes and while it does explore a lot of good things it can't really expand on any of them. Some of the relationships seem like they were not cultivated enough to seem meaningful to the viewer. However, don't let that dissuade you from watching this show more episodes would have just made it even better than it already is.

73. Blue Spring Ride
https://myanimelist.net/anime/21995/Ao_Haru_Ride

Blue Spring Ride is a romantic comedy of the shoujo variety. It has a simple premise where our two main characters had a mutual, if unsaid, connection towards one each other. Now they reunite a couple of years later, but life and personal choices have drastically changed them. Will they growth close again, or has love come and gone?

The show starts more as a comedy but as time goes on it gets more melodramatic. Not for like the sake of it, but more as we learn more about the characters the more the story calls for it. There is a build up to the moment where the show stops being romantic comedy and just becomes one of those dramas you expect your girlfriend to drag you to. I'd complain about this, but this is a fairly common thing that a lot of shows (including one that is going to be very highly ranked) do. Have to finish up the story somehow.

The only two characters worth mention are the mains. Futaba was originally a very girly girl, but in typical girl fashion other girls were jealous of her and she was shut out. Now, she changed her look simply in the ability to make new friends. It seems like a dumb anime plot thing, but it's one of several points of realism the show tackles. Kou, originally a nice and friendly kid has become distant and reserved. Part of the show is simply Futaba having to regain the trust of someone who she thought she knew.

There is still the typical romance stuff you should expect in an anime. I'd say this is the first show I'd call an actual romance that has appeared on this list. This is a strong entry into the genre so I suggest you give it a go. Like most school romance types all you need is an appreciation for some teen type drama/romance.

76. Dimension W
https://myanimelist.net/anime/31163/Dimension_W

If there was a recent anime that has that 90s type feel to it more akin to stuff like 90s trinity of Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Trigun you have Dimension W. It's a sci-fi action show packed with great music and good use of its CG effects.

It should not come to anyone's surprise that Dimension W was quickly picked up by Toonami. It is easily one of the shows that screams in appealing to a western audience and therefore I recommend this to new anime viewers overall. The story is simply that the characters are searching for coils (valuable forms of technology) for their own reasons. The starting episodes are all very disconnected basically they just give you the tone of the anime, but later on they start to pull things together. I will say that they might try to do a little too much in the time it was given.

The cast is fairly large but almost none of the characters are actually important. Kyouma gets the majority of the development and most of the story involves him. Mira is another character that has a good deal of focus, but her own personal growth seems outshone by simply the story revelations about her. Regardless together they are a decent duo and the level of depth that Kyouma gets is fairly impressive.

Overall I think Dimension W is a good watch. There are various parts in it where I thought to myself "this show could become a classic." After finishing it I don't think it's quite there, but the show is pretty much well above average in almost every aspect for this type of anime.

75. Dagashi Kashi
https://myanimelist.net/anime/31636/Dagashi_Kashi

"Do you like boobs?" That is the question of the season asked by esteemed dagashi expert, Hotaru Shidare. Of course by boobs she meant a type of snack that kind of looks like a boob. Dagashi Kashi is a comedy anime that revolves around cheap Japanese snacks aka dagashi.

When I was a kid I went to a candy shop. I never had a lot of money so I'd get this cheap budget candy from like side shops from various places. Dagashi Kashi is basically a giant commercial for candy. Or a documentary? I don't know, something like that. This is a show I think a lot of people unfairly judge because they can't relate to candy. I understand most of this is heavily cultured based candy but I never thought that was the focus of the show. Like yeah they are used in all of the skits as like part of the punch line, but knowing what the candy is is never important to understanding the significance of what is happening in the scene.

I say all that but there is a lot of history about each candy, stuff even I, someone who has gotten to eat a lot of this stuff, only care mildly about. That said the history of it does tie into some of the jokes, but they do a decent job in explaining it so you don't have a reason to be lost. I do admit even if I was a native Japanese person who ate this stuff all the time... I don't think I'd care about it.

The "plot" of the show is Hotaru Shidare. She loves dagashi and is crazy, not just about dagashi... just crazy. She is basically a carry for the show and it would be much less enjoyable without her. But the other two characters in Saya and Kokonotsu (Coconuts) are also highly entertaining characters within the confines of this anime.

Probably among the most appealing factors is the art style. Turns Hotaru, a character that would probably just be kind of average in other anime into like a reason not to take your eyes off the screen. In any case Dagashi Kashi is a nice comedy that mixes decent laughs with those moments where you question the sanity of the main characters.

78. Noragami Aragoto
https://myanimelist.net/anime/30503/Noragami_Aragoto

Aragoto is the second season of Noragami. It mainly focuses on Bishamon, a god of war who is often at odds with series protagonist, Yato. The season explores more of their character and some of the small hints that were tossed in during the first one.

To start off, there is very little relation to the first season. In fact, you only have to see a handful of scenes from it to understand season 2. That said, I would still watch season 1 even though I don't consider it to be quite as good (it's still good). The main difference is that S1 was mainly a comedy with some dramatic elements and S2 is a drama with some comedic elements. The latter works much better in this case as the dramatic elements in S1 were rather cringe worthy. The comedic stuff in S2 seems like basic comic relief. It's never as funny, but is more a welcome change of place.

The story is actually pretty decent. The first half is undoubtedly the stronger of the two arcs though. Bishamon gets significant character development. Mainly because we knew nothing about her back in S1 and now we have a pretty complete picture of who she is. In fact, it's mostly side characters from S1 who get it as there is not a whole lot more to do with the main cast overall.

If you've seen S1 and liked it there is little reason not to watch S2. If you've seen neither I'd suggest you check it out. It's a fairly easy anime to get into and despite some question marks it remains to be a fairly well developed anime.

77. Bakuon!!
https://myanimelist.net/anime/30795/Bakuon

This is another cute girls doing cute things show. This time it has motorcycles. It follows along 4 (later 5) girls as they go on what are basically motorcycle road trips together and stuff. What differentiates this from other moe type anime (besides that there is a talking motorcycle) is that there is a higher level of ecchi content than normal. It doesn't always show a lot of skin but the show knows how to fully extend its apparent pg13ish rating to do things not even some uncensored atx anime broadcasts can successfully do.

The five girls in the show are surprisingly enjoyable. One of them has frizzy hair, she's great. Also, Celty's sister is in the show. There is no character development besides Hane (the main girl) like getting better at motorcycling but that's not the point of the show. Oh, there is also a rich girl who has her butler drive everywhere since she doesn't have a license.

There is no story. But the comedic segments are often over the top. It has some of the funniest skits of the year it aired with some of the best ones being like the Bike Jesus and the Spurned Wife (or ex or something), and the motorcycle race. There are also those ecchi scenes like the hot springs and motorcycle washing ones. It's a show with a lot of good highlights for anime fans with very few lulls.

I think the art is important enough to talk about here. Bakuon is no where near what I'd call "good" the overall designs do make all the girls look very attractive, another thing that is rare within this genre. They just give off more of a sexy type vibe.

Bakuon is not for everyone and there are a LOT of better shows within a genre that has become pretty oversaturated but if you want something that is a little different than what you'd normally get and don't mind ample amounts of fan service, give it a go.

Played more ladder. Hit Rank 10 with little difficulty. Actually for so early in the season I'm surprised how many bad players are here.

yeah I was specifically thinking of Vicious Fledgling when I typed that up

that card absolutely has no place in arena. the fact that we see it less does not change that fact. and in one of my recent runs, two of my three losses were against people playing Flappy Bird on turn 3 when I had no answer. it's just like... this shouldn't happen.

Vicious fledgling is a card that just should never have been printed at all. That or not in its current form.

81. Gugure! Kokkuri-san
https://myanimelist.net/anime/23251/Gugure_Kokkuri-san

Legend has it if you call out to the fox ghost, Kokkuri he will. To be honest I don't quite remember, but that's not really important. What is important is that instead of doing whatever he was supposed to do when he was called he instead sees that Kohina (a self proclaimed doll) is unfit to live alone and takes it upon himself to be her guardian.

Kokkuri-san is almost purely a comedy. There is little in the way of story and there is no real character development. Each character has their own gimmick. Kohina's being that she really likes instant noodles. The character interactions themselves are great. The show is funny for sure and if you want some good laughs you should watch this.

No more to say. This will live or die based on how much you like the gags in the show. It's not the funniest show on this list and the earlier episodes are stronger than the latter ones. But Kokkuri has type of humor that is unique to the show.

80. One Week Friends
https://myanimelist.net/anime/21327/Isshuukan_Friends

One Week Friends is a show that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. If you've ever seen like A tale of memories you know some of the basis premise. A guy wants to befriend a girl but the girl loses her memories after a period of time, in this case a week.

This is going to be another short one as the entire plot is basically in the premise. It's Hase trying to be friends with Kaori and once that happens dealing with the struggles of her unique condition. The show has a good mix of drama and comedy and it doesn't overextend on either front. It's not a laugh out loud show and it's not a huge tearjerker either. The real factor is that character seem to act in a genuine manner and the show has a level of "this is how things would be in real life" type feel that is rare.

There's a pretty decent amount of character development, mostly spurred on by the characters learning about each other, and in many cases, relearning. There is a level of mixed happiness and sadness in each scene which the anime capitalizes on several times.

If you're looking for a strong romance, or even a heart throbbing drama this is not for you. This show is very simple and doesn't have many thrills. But uses its simplicity for the best.

79. Hanayamata
https://myanimelist.net/anime/21681/Hanayamata

Yosakoi is a type of dance that originated in Japan. Because Japan (and several eastern counties) are often cited to be deeply rooted in old traditions it might be surprising to find out that the dance is a relatively recent invention. Naru didn't have any idea what it was at all until she meets a mysterious blond named Hana who wants to start her own yosakoi dance team.

The show's title, Hanayamata takes the first few letters of each of the characters name. It's basically a cute girls doing cute things show with the "focus" being the yasakoi. Like all shows of this type each girl has their own personalities and quirks. The main issue is that their memorability as individuals falls a little flat. That's not to say there are not factors that make them different from each other. Each of them has their own back story and reasoning to join the team. This development is mostly done in individual arcs for each character are pretty welcome as it's rare in these anime. However, it does sometimes feel like after each one is done we just forget about them.

What really sets the show apart for me is the production levels. Just watching the show is great because of the art work, music, presentation. IMO this is a good example of technical attributes pulling up a show that is still above average on other fronts and making them seem even better.

If I recall this show had a pretty well to do team on it, and it shows.

82. Parasyte -the maxim-
https://myanimelist.net/anime/22535/Kiseijuu__Sei_no_Kakuritsu

Parasyte was one of the most hyped shows of 2014. Mainly because of the source material (the manga is held in very high regard). A bunch of parasitic aliens have come to earth and need to feed on living things in order to survive. One such parasite intended to infect Shinichi Izumi, but something happened and could not fully take over. Now, known as Migi (right in english) lives as part of him.

The core of the entire show is the relationship between Migi and Shinichi. The parasites are emotionless creatures driven solely on survival. Shinichi is a caring human being and soon sees his new found partner as a reason to fight other parasites. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that they slowly become more like each other as the show goes on. Despite that though there is very little actual character development. Yes, you can tell the characters are different from when they started, but I don't feel like they really do enough to have really made those changes matter.

The story is Shinichi simply trying to figure out what to do with Migi, and later when he accepts him, how to stop the other parasites. A lot of the good parts in the show are when they do the battles and they work together to overcome obstacles that individually they would have difficulties with. There are sub plots too and quite a few devastating moments to move the story along. But the show does mainly become about beating the big boss parasite.

I think Parasyte was a good show that kind of squandered what it could have been. It has a decent pair for a main that gets some development, good action, and enough tense moments to keep you covered. But doesn't go that extra step to really put it among the greats imo.

Btw. All of my arena decks this expansion have been awful. At times sub 60 points bad. Some of the time I get synergy picks at the start but then succeed in not getting offered anything related. I have a paladin deck and got like a dragon as a first pick. But was offered one other dragon card the entire game.

The issues with arena are almost always due to 1. New Mechanics 2. Card rarity distribution. This is the first time a subset of cards was a major issue.

83. Keijo!!!!!!!!
https://myanimelist.net/anime/32686/Keijo

Well, it didn't take long to get to the other fake sport (which is now a real sport). Keijo is a female only sport, not really really because of like feminism or anything but because only females can play the sport effectively due to how it works. Basically the girls use their boobs and butts to knock other girls off into the water. If this sounds stupid... it is. But boy do they make it fun to watch.

Keijo is so dumb in places that I didn't actually like it at first. In fact, it's one of the rare shows that was almost an episode 1 drop where I'm happy I kept it. Truthfully the first few episodes are not great and it really takes until they get to the matches where it really shines. There is no real story besides the girls trying to win a match and Nozomi training to get better and perfect her special ability, the vacuum butt cannon.

The characters are fairly standard overall. Really, I think Nozomi is a pretty big star and one of my favorites from the year. I also just like her accent and seem to smile when she talks. I mean I can't say more beyond that. The show honestly doesn't give anyone else enough of a real personality or even running gags that are going to make you like a girl that much.

Lets get to something important. The fan service. I think a lot of shows are using fan service as something more for like "almost porn" purposes, but lost to anime has been a show that just has it because it make sense? I don't know but because the girls are so invested into the sport itself it almost seems like it's just a side effect of whats going on rather than viewer gratification (which it totally is but talking about like within the universe of the show). Like the girls in the show want you take them seriously and as hard as the premise of dumb things the show does to make that not so you do see the work they put in and have a certain level of investment.

Lets not kid ourselves though. There are a lot of t and a in the show. Even more heightened by the sheer number of parody moves that the girls use as their specials. Like the fucking fate rip off one. When stuff like that happened I knew I was watching a true gem of an anime. Like they have other things to like sword nipples (I think), Buttack on Titan, this thing where two girls join into the same suit like some combo attack. It actually references a number of different anime so if you've seen them it does help, but most of them have been pretty famous titles.

Honestly, if you're just going into this for the fan service you'll be disappointed. Despite there being a great deal of it it's not the type where you'll come back because of it. Instead you'll come back because the show is stupid and the show knows its stupid.

84. Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm
https://myanimelist.net/anime/28391/Ao_no_Kanata_no_Four_Rhythm

AoKana is a sports show, and one of I believe two fake sports show (although list spoiler, one of them has become a real sport) that is going to be on this list. The sport in question is called flying circus. An event where players using these flying type shoes race and battle each other. It mainly focuses on Asuka Kurashina, a young girl who is just starting to get into the game.

The show has a pretty simple cast of characters. They don't quite get as fleshed out as some other shows on this list, but they do have distinct personalities. There is not too much in the way of their back stories like a lot of other sports shows seem to need to make us fully aware of for every single character and because it doesn't do that it does cover some good ground in the short span this runs. All the characters are pretty straightforward in their outlook. Asuka simply likes the sport and wants to get better at it and Masaya Hinata a guy who reluctantly starts to coach her even though he wanted to be rid ofthe sport for good. Despite the simpleness to each of them, the anime does a lot with these small character traits that are initially revealed.

The story is really set into a three main parts: introduction, training, and tournament. There are small side points throughout but it does follow the normal sports show formula. There is not too much to the story itself, it's heavily driven by the characters ideals and changing viewpoints. The real anchor is Asuka as almost every character and story point is filter through her. There is a surprising amount of content that gets tossed in though as they start and finish character and story points that should take entire arcs to complete in other shows in an episode or two. The show seems incredibly fast paced and almost leisurely at the same time.

Lets get to the actual sport. The actual flying circus portions are a joy to watch. They are well animated and have a level of excitement that not every sports show is able to match. It helps that the show really gives the characters focus so that you know it's more than simply winning or losing. There is something more personal at stake for each of them. It doesn't quite get the level of emotional commitment the top tier sports shows are going to give you but still does more than enough.

AoKana is has a lot of depth hidden under the cute exterior. It's a show that is worth picking up despite some of the hick ups.
