It's only one example, but San Francisco locked down very, very early. They also only have 40 deaths so far, despite their population density. Compared to other big cities it certainly suggests that lockdowns work.

AFAIK it's random, but some of it refreshes every day and some of it is available for ~15 days (or maybe a week I honestly don't know) before changing. More specifically, the two outfits on the mannequins on the left side of the store don't change every day.

My understanding is that you wait until you have an empty plot, then invite someone on that day, before it's filled automatically the next day. Haven't done it myself, however.

OK so I doing a lot of revamping of my island, which means moving a lot of buildings around, which means waiting a super long time to move one building a day unless I time travel.... so I might do just that. If I all I want to do is simply go back and forth a day and move buildings around, all I do is simply change the system clock right? I don't even care about checking the shops or anything else besides going in, paying to move a building, then change the clock again to get it moved. And since I have no turnips, I'm not going to get punished for doing any of this?
