Shared responsibility.

The father should know damn well that pointing a weapon at a police officer will bring about a certain response. Especially if it's someone who is so paranoid of the government. Threatening to kill a police officer while children are in the vicinity is irresponsible.

As for the officer, knowing what your target is and what is beyond it is one of the first rules that you learn when handling a firearm. The officer knew that the child was there and still fired.

Too many think SYG gives you a license to kill.

That seems to be the problem with some laws. Either they way they're worded, or how some people perceive those laws. I do agree that this one should also be denied.

I think it's both. Worded much too vaguely together with dumbasses with an itchy trigger finger and no common sense. It's a recipe for disaster.

I'm not sure how he's not being charged. The guy pushes him (Not the best course of action to begin with) but then starts backing away. The second that he starts backing away, you don't really have a reason to fear for your life. This is not what the "Stand Your Ground" law is about.

If I had to guess, I'd say most cases are more likely just guilt or shame. By turning over an animal to a shelter, you're basically saying that you aren't capable of giving a creature the basic necessities.

The fact that they'd rather pretty much give a domesticated animal the death sentence by abandoning them instead of taking a hit to the ego goes back to my original statement.
