Kamekguy 12/30/18 1:43:19 PM #424 | Can't say I totally agree with the assessment of Warcraft III, at least single-player wise. There's a clear reason Starcraft remained the multiplayer standard after WC3's release, but I felt the hero system allowed for some interesting mission-based campaign encounters. Stuff like The Culling, the final Night Elf Mission, the invasion of Alderaan, the defense of Kel'Thuzad summoning Archimonde - those specific scenarios played to the strengths of the hero-focused engine and benefitted for it. Now, as a follow-up to Warcraft 2 and Starcraft, yeah there's quite a big issue, and it's telling that a fan-made mod had SIGNIFICANTLY more impact than the actual game it was centered around. But I have a lot of good memories that I do attribute to Warcraft 3, or at least the tools given to make it enjoyable, since the Map Editor was included and such a big part of my personal experience with the game. And it's hard to separate "Warcraft 3 Map Editor" as its own game instead of just saying "Warcraft 3", at least moreso than separating, say, Half-Life 1 and Team Fortress Classic or Counter-Strike. Always nice to hear raw emotion, though. Even if I disagree, it's always good to hear another perspective. Plus the Activision-ing of Blizzard lately has been rrrreally rough. As much as I think Mac's feats are comparable (Don Flamenco flat-out Team Rockets a charging bull, Bald Bull no-sells a bull charge, Mr. Sandman destroying a building with his bare fists and Mac can still get hit by those), Mac's canonically lost at least three fights by the end of Punch-Out Wii, whilst Kiryu is a five time, five time, five time, FIVE TIME, FIVE TIME Millennium Tower Battle Champion (note: could be six time, in fact I assume it's six time but I haven't played Yakuza 6 to be sure). The sheer amount of ways and angles Kiryu can not only attack from, but react to just gives him such an insane ring awareness that Mac doesn't have an answer to other than "dodge his punch, then counter-punch". --- Doin' Game Design Vids: https://www.youtube.com/c/DesigningFor |

I do feel that the town and the protagonists work in tandem in order to make an interesting combination - it's why James and Heather stand out compared to Harry and Robert, for instance. Playing with the inherent insecurities of the character makes for a unique emotional connection where you can't project yourself onto the character because James is kind of a terrible person. Makes for a very interesting and exciting MC, but not one with any sort of casual appeal. They're not exceptional RPG's, but the sense of style and character end up meaning a lot to people (myself included), and that probably makes them resonate way too strongly when the niche little series gets even the slightest bit of recognition. Do wish we could get better characters than Yu in the bracket from Persona, though. Etna (Disgaea series) Villainous Female Otherworldly Minimum Bid: 34 GP Upkeep: 2/week Pure Support Abilities Red Moon (Passive) - Should Etna's attached mercenary be KO'd or injured before battle, they will turn into a Prinny. They will be considered a Neutral <Their Gender> Otherworldly for ability purposes with the same upkeep as normal. However, all abilities they have activated will still be considered negated (if they would normally be negated by KO), and they will only have access to the following ability: I'm Finished, Dood! (Pre-Battle, AP 0, Fatigue 1) - Etna may hurl Prinny at a target enemy mercenary. The mercenary will begin battle at 50% of their maximum health points, unable to be recovered past that. Prinny will be considered KO'd, and unable to be affected by the ability "Red Moon" after this ability resolves. If this ability resolves multiple times on a single target, they will be considered to be KO'd. Prinny is as it appears in Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood!, equipped with the Hero Scarf. It has the personality of <attached mercenary>. Upgrades (Character Upgrade; 15 XP) -Prinnies retain all equipment from their original forms. (Ability Upgrade; 15 XP) -Red Moon may be declared as a Peacetime ability at a Fatigue 2 cost. The effects of "Red Moon" will apply to all mercenaries across both teams, including the ability to utilize "I'm Finished, Dood" on a per-mercenary basis. (New Ability; 20 XP) Beauty Queen Etna (Passive) - Etna's best trait is taking what she wants from her subordinates, including direct power. Each time that an ability named "I'm Finished, Dood!" is used by a mercenary, Etna will remove 5 XP from that mercenary, if possible, during the following Results period. Out of which upgrade this 5 XP comes from may be chosen by Etna's merc leader, otherwise this ability will be considered ignored. If this would result in a mercenary losing access to an upgrade, they will be considered unable to access it. Etna will then allow her merc leader to redistribute this XP as they see fit. Incineroar (Pokemon Series) Heel Male Beast Minimum Bid: 34 GP Upkeep: 1/week Incineroar is as he appears in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon at Level 100. It has access to its entire level-up learnset, with the exception of Swagger, as well as the moves Flamethrower, Drain Punch, Snatch, Power Trip, and Revenge. It also has access to its Super Smash Bros. Ultimate moveset, with the exception of shielding, gameplay mechanics, or its Final Smash. It is holding Incinium Z and may use its Z-Move without a trainer present. Abilities Irish Whip (Start of Battle, AP 1) - Incineroar may select a target mercenary to hit with the most devastating of wrestling techniques: the Irish Whip. The mercenary will obey kayfabe, beginning the fight moving forward at a full sprint (or whatever the equivalent would be), unable to attack, defend themselves, or stop moving until they either are stopped from moving by the terrain or attacked by the enemy. Incineroar will start in front of the enemy team if this ability resolves. Upgrades (Ability Upgrade; 10 XP) -Incineroar may Irish Whip a post-rosters random mercenary instead. (Ability Upgrade; 15 XP) -For every mercenary Incineroar Irish Whips, he will gain a 50% attack power increase for this week's battle. (New Ability; 15 XP) For The Kids (Passive) - Incineroar is oddly good with children, and that carries over to him wanting to defend the little guys in Mercs. If a 1/week allied mercenary, including Incineroar, is targeted by an enemy ability that either has resolved or would resolve if they were rostered, Incineroar may automatically utilize his Irish Whip ability (still with Start of Battle timing and requiring Incineroar to be rostered) on a random post-rosters enemy mercenary. This ability may trigger multiple times, including multiple times off of a single ability. Incineroar will never Irish Whip the same mercenary twice. Terrain: Iki Town - A small four-hut town where the island Kahuna, Hala, resides. All NPC's and Pokemon have cleared, access to the rest of Melemele Island is denied. They are just bonus levels, but some have interesting concepts, at the very least. Don't even get anything really interesting from them... but they're fun! Kamekguy 11/18/18 2:36:31 PM #3 | This is my personal breakdown Essential: Castlevania (Aged incredibly well for NES, short, very hard but not unfair like CVIII) Rondo of Blood (best version of the classicvania formula) Symphony (is Symphony) Aria of Sorrow OR Order of Ecclesia (either is a great way of showing where the Igavania formula evolved to) Netflix (It's just good to watch. Well acted, well animated, got me invested in a lot of the characters) Recommended: Bloodlines (Damn great classic-style) Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon (not Castlevania, but is Castlevania. Antiquates III) Whatever You Didn't Pick Out of Aria or Ecclesia Portrait of Ruin (A great evolution of Bloodlines' dynamic) Follow-Ups: Super Castlevania IV (Antiquated by time, easier than the rest of the series.
