I'm not familiar with that method precisely, but skimming it, it doesn't sound too different from my own method.

Starting with core ideas is obviously essential. Start trying to figure out the directions that you want the plot to take and the biggest story beats, then start mapping it out into a coherent story. You don't need to spontaneously know the whole novel in one sitting. I typically go from like a key plot concept to general plot points and then organize them and refine them over time.

The biggest thing that helps me, though, is to get a physical notebook to jot ideas down on. Having my ideas on paper helps so much, and in particular, I make pages for each character to help write out traits or quirks or just smaller details as I develop them. Even if they aren't all important and are just mentioned in passing (or maybe not at all), developing your characters like that really helps.

When you get to actually writing it, pacing is really important. I tried to just attack it on my first time writing a novel, and I burnt out pretty hard and didn't feel up to writing for quite a while after that. Even "a chapter a day" isn't always realistic when it comes to longer chapters. My biggest advice there is to just try to write something every day. Even if it's just a few sentences, keep making progress without pushing yourself too hard.
That's really helpful! Thank you

I've written two. Both were awful.

Where are you at in the process exactly? I can try to offer some tips, though I'm not really an expert or anything, but it'd help to know precisely where you're at with it as of now.
I have 3 of the character's story arch's broadly outlined and the general plot outlined to about 1-2 paragraphs worth. So at the very very beginning

I'm following the snowflake method

Just curious. I've written poems, short stories, essays, but never a novel. It's a novel thing for me (LOL).

I'm attempting to do so now, and I'm having a lot of fun outlining it. Curious if you would have any tips/tricks/advice regarding anything at all during the novel writing process?

I'm not gonna drag her down. But why couldnt she just be happy with what God gave her, man? She felt her forehead was too big. Some people teased her for her forehead. So she gets surgery to make it smaller, instead of accepting and rocking it like a truly dignified woman?

I'll forever be disappointed in her. I can't look at her the same anymore.

You had this vision of who your sister is - a girl who would never conform to the expectations of others. And when she got plastic surgery, it shattered your reality of who she is and replaced it with a different reality that she would change her appearance by getting plastic surgery. Take all the time you need to mourn the loss of the image you once had of your sister.

But also, realize it's 100% completely her decision and not yours. Try putting yourself in her shoes - you make a decision that is 100% your decision to make (maybe you buy an expensive car, or give all your money away to charity, or get a tattoo, or join the military) and she is forever disappointed in you for making a decision that you had valid reasons to make, and was completely your call and not hers. How would that make you feel?

Phone calls, facetime, etc.

I suppose if you have to see someone, you can both test for COVID, but even if you both come up negative, there's still the risk of you having it but not testing positive, then testing positive later.

Generally, I'm using this time to meet people and have phone calls with them. If I like them enough, I mentally put them in a box for hitting them up later when COVID is over. During the phone call, I generally mention that COVID is making it hard to date - they agree - then I talk about how I like to get to know the person first anyway, this gives us time to become friends, then maybe in a few months, we'll still be talking. But my process is still evolving.

I wouldn't really call that snobbish behavior.

Sounds more like an entitled attitude. Sounds like he's resentful that your grandfather dropped 100k into a car instead of into investments so he could leave more to his family, aka him
That could play a role. I think he also just wants to boost himself up, by saying that he's really really good with money and he knows the best decisions to make, and he's so thrifty which is so great of him.

He'll criticize me for buying a $3 thing of delicious Hershey's creamer, because "we could get a gallon of milk for that". Like excuse me, I used my own money. Actually, now that I typed out that last sentence, it probably does have something to do with enriching himself.

I find that when I talk to this friend on the phone, I come out of it pretty stressed and I have to cool down substantially, but I feel guilty about dropping him as a friend. So I have this friend who has been sexist in the past, for years.

Now, he makes fun of people for being too politically correct, which I don't find funny given his sexist past.

When I said I don't think that's funny, he paused. I said, "Can I explain why?"

Then he shut me down and said, "I don't think anything good would come from that"

Is this normal behavior? Wouldn't a friend want to know why I don't think it's funny if I'm asking to explain why? It seems like he didn't want to be put on blast and cares more preserving his ego than hearing my feelings.

Sometimes my brother will criticize other people for how they spend their money. He'll be like "they shouldn't have bought a $100,000 jaguar. That was a terrible investment"

And I'm like, "He didn't buy it as an investment, he bought it as a toy. And he was a multi millionaire"

And he'll be like, "I would've bought stocks"

And I'm like, "Nobody's making you buy a Jaguar. You can spend your money however you want"

And he's like, "That car is worth nothing now"

And I'm like, "He's dead. He doesn't care that it's worth nothing. He enjoyed his life"

This conversation was about our grandpa, by the way. He made many wise decisions, got a lot of money, and had a couple nice toys, which my brother criticizes, but it's like, it's not your money. Why are you criticizing our dead grandpa for how he decided to spend HIS money? Nobody buys a $100,000 Jaguar as an investment. You buy it as a toy when you're retired because you don't give a **** if it's worth $0 tomorrow

For me, it's like, just let people enjoy things. Once in a while would be one thing, but if every single time that person is like "This pizza is garbage" then I'm less likely to want to get pizza with them again. Just let people enjoy things.
